Beautiful square - clocktower a must see!
Beautiful square, with watching the figures of the clock dance around is a must. Look out for the injured knight! Timings change for the movements, so check beforehand - summer was noon, 5pm and 6pm from memory. Many lovely churches to visit and stunning buildings to admire- just keep looking up to admire it all!

You're going to end up here anyway, so you might as well enjoy
Centrally located in downtown Munich, this square is a wonderful pedestrian-only spot to take in the cultural landscape of this city. The town hall is brilliantly designed, although not as old as you would think by looking at the ornament. The buildings that dot the square offer lots of tourist friendly amenities, but you would do better price-wise to step away from the center of town to patronize cafes or souvenir stands that are a bit more remote but easier on your wallet.

    Must to go
We were in Munich two days. We stayed a hotel nearby the main train station. So it is walking distance to the old town. And this place is in side the old town, and it is a must to go. The architecture is amazing. All the details on the façade. We even google the story behind the creations, and it is fascinating to read the stories and seeing the old architecture at the same time. We highly recommend this.

    The heart of Munich
Be sure to go at 5:00 to see the clock tower come alive. Amazing to see. This is a beautiful square surrounded by great shops and restaurants. There is a subway station right in the square so an easy place to get to.

    Beautiful and Historic Square
This is a beautiful and historic square in the heart of the old city of Munich. A lot of things were destroying in WWII, but there are still some beautiful buildings and churches here. The Neu Rathaus and glockenspiel are great and you can eat at the Ratskeller for a kitschy, delicious Bavarian meal.

    Must visit location
The Marienplatz is the huge town square with many large restaurants adjacent to the square. Our first morning after arrival and room not quite ready we took a walk here which is about 15 min from the downtown Hilton. There is nothing like a wurst and Hacker-Schoor for breakfast, lol. So the Hacker Schoor is located in the middle of the square, a great place for people watching and enjoying fine German beer. We also visited the Hofbrau house and the Ratskellar over our 5 days, and there wasn't one meal we didn't enjoy. The architecture is amazing within the square well worth the visit even if not partaking in Oktoberfest, which is why we were in the city.

    Visit throughout the day
Love the square. In the morning there are lovely cafes to watch the crowds roll in and out. A few times a day you can view the kukoo clock display from the New City Hall, which looks old and in the afternoon and evening there are often musicians playing with many listening

Vibrant Marienplatz to enhance your Munich experience
It was my first trip to Munich and Marienplatz was a landmark that everyone recommended to me as it was not only located on the S-bahn intersection where I needed to change line to change for the U-bahn but I was agreeably surprised by the place's magical atmosphere at day or at night. It was always busy and full of possibilities. I went around when I had little to do and I found myself spending hours there just sitting and listening to people busking.

    The middle of it all
Marienplatz is a beautiful and busy town square in the heart of Munich. It is easy to get to on the metro or by bike. Come see the glockenspiel (it’ll be crowded then) and don’t forget to got up in the tower or toy museum for a panoramic view.

In the heart of old town, no visit to Munich is complete without spending some time in Marienplatz. It’s a bustling plaza set against the backdrop of the Glockenspiel. Several subway lines run underneath it, so it’s easy to get to by subway or by foot. Lots of good photo ops, but the best views are from climbing to the top of the tower at St. Peter’s Church, one block off the plaza.

While the Marienplatz is definitely a spot for tourists, it is worth wandering down into the City Center to check it out. There are many high end shops interspersed with beer halls and restaurants. It is an easy way to spend an afternoon just poking around at all there is to see.

The architectures of the Rathaus and churches are very interesting. The statuary is amazing. It was very crowded with tourists but still worth a visit.

The central square in the old town is full of medieval buildings. Interesting to visit, but personally I was expecting more..
