After my last visits (and review) from 2 years ago, I'm happy to report that they have made *huge* strides in re-opening many of the departments. And did a great job to boot!

Some favourites are still under construction - physics, mines, ships among them - but a large number of the others are all open and modernised. Aviation especially has seen a wonderful overhaul!

Possibly because of some areas still under closure, you may find yourself backtracking, rather than following a circuit, but it's not a big deal.

One thing I did *not* care for: the new restaurant. Yes, the old one had all the charm of a corporate canteen (and you would see employees eating there), but it offered good Bavarian fair. Now they went more of a "gastropub" style with, when I visited, a very limited menu.

The museum is 2 parts- Geology and Paleontology. It's normally closed on Sundays but once a month, they are open for a Family Day. We just had to follow the hordes of small children to find it. The museum is small- there are 4 galleries of exhibits grouped around an open central area featuring the larger skeletons. The day we were there, this center area was blocked off so you could only look down at the skeletons from one of the upper galleries. Since it was Family Day, there were activities for the kids and there were some things for sale- we got 2 very nice fossils for 5 euro. We didn't spend much time in the Geology section but it seemed well laid out and comprehensive. It's actually part of Ludwig Maximillian University- the man selling fossils was one of the Herr Doktors at the University. The building itself is old and attractive.

Tours in the evening, starting at 8PM or 9PM depending on the season. Most tours are in German, but there are also options for English. Very friendly people, who paused their explanations for me to translate from German to Dutch for my family. We started the tour with a view through the telescope to see the planet Saturn, which was very nice to see the rings around the planet. Then we had an explanation on our solar system and a very nice planeterium show with good explanations on the constellations of stars and planets in the Northern skies. A tour takes about 2 hours. Located 10 minutes walk from metro station.
