- EmmaNottingham, United Kingdom106 contributionsOne of the the most famous roads in music historyQuite surreal seeing the road and crossing first-hand after seeing it on that famous album cover all these years! We visited the road in the early afternoon and although there were a number of people on either side of the road, there was a lovely air of respect as people took their time taking photos, videos and posing on the crossing 'Beatles-style'. Drivers coming to the area seem to be very understanding of what takes place there on a daily basis and patiently wait whilst photos are taken but not all of them are so do expect some beeping of horns from one or two! We stood at the wall outside the Abbey Road Studios for a few minutes and took in the history and messages left on the white walls, which I can only assume are painted over every so often as a lot were 'modernly' written. We then discovered the Abbey Road shop just to the right of the studios which is well worth a visit and full of memorabilia for The Beatles and other bands who are known for recording at the Abbey Road Studios. Expect to pay £7 for an Abbey Road road sign magnet though!Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 5, 2023
- Cynthia MGlendale, Arizona7 contributionsThe experience of a lifetime! We had the opportunity to do a tour inside Abbey Road and it was a dream come true. It was amazing to be in the studio where The Beatles recording most of their best work and learn about the history and importance of the studio. If you get the chance, don't miss it. Absolutely amazing!!Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten August 19, 2023
- JFSyndey12 contributionsCrowding Abbey RoadA very popular destination for Beatles fans. Great to do the walk across the zebra crossing and then watch the crowds attempt to get the perfect picture. Everyone was helping everyone else with pictures so a very friendly atmosphere. A very busy street so lots of traffic.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten August 29, 2023
- therichastillStevenage, United Kingdom3,118 contributionsA Road In LondonAbbey Road is made famous by the Beatles who recorded an album in the famous studio which happens to be located on Abbey Road. One wonders if they had recorded the album in a different location if then the album cover would have been different? This in turn would have returned Abbey Road to just another road in London. Instead it has become a pilgrimage for music fans from all over the world. Many of whom want to walk across the famous crossing. The 189 bus to Brent Cross Shopping Centre goes along Abbey Road and the St Johns Wood tube station is quite close by as well. Certainly worth checking out if you are a music fan and in the area.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten September 19, 2023

Took a while to get our shot replicating the famous walk but fun doing it . You need to have a photo plan though because it is hard to get a great shot as it is a busy road. I would go back and take the walk again for a better photo. If you are a Beatles fan, it is a must if you are in London! Abbey Road studios is cool to see too, if only from the outside. Surreal!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 19, 2024

Can only see the outside of the building through a gate and do the ceremonial walk across Abbey Road and take pictures. Then you keep getting asked to visit the gift shop. Unless you’re a big Beatles fan it’s probably something you can skip.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 11, 2024

This was one of my highlights on my recent trip to London. Visiting the site where a great album was recorded by one of history’s best rock groups was very special and I loved recreating iconic album cover’s photo and visiting the Abbey Road Shop. Remember to take your own sharpie for writing on the fence!

The weather in London was really nice, sunshine, dry...problem is The Bedford Hotel (Kensington) had no AC or refrigerator in a TINY room. The front desk explained they're a 3 Star hotel, thus no AC. They brought up a small refrigerator and were overall very attentive. Remember that in London, when they say it's a "double room," it means two single beds...they do not normally offer queens or kings, just FYI.
Although the room took getting used to, the neighborhood was EXCELLENT...great restaurants and pubs next door and across the street. We ended up being very happy with The Bedford Hotel.
CONS of London: TRAFFIC WAS HORRENDOUS!
iF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A HOP ON-HOP OFF EXPERIENCE, KEEP IN MIND THEY HAVE VARIOUS BUS LINES SO IF YOU PURCHASE A TICKET FOR ONE LINE AND OTHERS PASS, YOU HAVE TO WAIT....WE WAITED ALMOST 45 MINUTES AND DECIDED TO GET A REFUND.
Liverpool was WAY more laid back - EASY TO NAVIGATE - the FabFour beatles taxi tour was definitely worth the money and there are two Beatles museums...we chose The Beatles Story, which was geared towards the early years...EXCELLENT, INFORMATIVE, GREAT CHOICE!
We stayed our last night in London at the Leonardo Hotel Heathrow...GREAT HOTEL, GOOD RESTAURANT, GOOD BAR, COMFORTABLE BEDS (I booked one king and a smaller second bed but they had it made out and it was comperable to a full/queen...SUPER QUIET...free shuttle to your airline departure...VERY IMPRESSED!
PS: I had a brand new small container of New Orleans seasoning in my carry-on bag for a friend and it created delays galore! I thought the only issue was liquids, but that's not true. If you're brining anything that is in a powder form, PUT IT IN YOUR CHECKED BAG! Also, if you're brining a liquid less than 100 mill, make sure you put it in a SEPARATE PLASTIC BAGGY in the bin where you have your purse, laptop, etc when it goes through customs! It cannot be stored inside your carry-on bag...must be VISIBLE in a separate bag!

Beatle Fan? Queen Fan? Abbey Road, the Zebra Crossing and the gift shop are a must do in London. However - take note, the traffic does not stop for you to cross Beatle's style! Be quick!

I LOVED LONDON! We had a great time! It wasn't as cold as I remembered. It didn't rain! Lots of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. We met really nice people! The Pubs mostly do Beer & Guinness. It was hard for me to find a cocktail but I adjusted. lol

PROS
* Famous street for its association with the Beatles
* Pleasant and scenic
CONS
* Regular traffic with people always going on the famous zebra crossing
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... for a second time when I came to this place again, to honor the Beatles, to relive the place and the era, and to cross that street there... again, and to be photographed doing it
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It's free
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
I have gone out of my way twice on two different trips to do that; I would go back if I found myself in St. Johns Wood while going from somewhere to somewhere else
ADVICE
If you are a Beatles fan, then you know that you have to go here, but watch out fo the traffic on the street.

Reliving the Beatles Abbey Road album cover is quite an experience.

Is there a better time of day to visit? I’ve read that it is a busy street. Is is less busy during the day or evenings? Or does it matter when you go? I’m looking forward to our visit...my husband doesn’t get It! But we’ll get our photo!
Written May 12, 2019
I'm afraid it's hit and miss. We went early/mid morning 9.30/10.00 am and it wasn't too bad. Can understand it will be busier at weekends and obviously in nicer weather. You'll enjoy the experience anyway.
Written May 15, 2019
Late morning is best. It is an active street so you don't want to go during busy times (Rush hour). Cars are very accommodating and will generally wait for you to get a photo, which is nice! But around 10/11AM would probably be best.

Suerte ¡¡¡¡

The nearest parking station is Kingsmill Terrace, St. Johns Wood. It is about a 7 minute walk from there to Abbey Road.

Saludos.

I'm an American and i apologize in advance for contributing to the traffic on Abbey Road! My husband and I are planning our dream vacation once our son graduates college next year. No doubt this will be on the agenda as we are planning at least a 10 day trip to London. I'm wondering how long my husband and I should put aside to visit this landmark,.

Hello
In my opinion an hour will be adequate to visit Abbey Road itself. However, there are places you may find of interest to visit in the vicinity and not too far away. There are pubs, restaurants and other eateries in St. John's Wood, Maida Vale etc; A bus will take you to Marble arch and the West end via Edgware road. Church street market is off the Edgware road. It is a busy market and an interesting experience. However, a visit to Camden passage or Portobello market, on another day, may prove more fruitful. Little Venice and Rembrandt gardens are a good place to visit. Take a bus from Abbey road to the top of the Regents Park canal, before Edgware road, and walk down to the bottom; alternatively a tube to Warwick avenue will take you there. There are restaurants in this area and in Maida Vale. There is a taxi rank in Warwick avenue, between the gardens and the tube station. The Cab Hut at the rank is a grade 11 listed building.

I hear that soon people will have to pay £1 to use the crossing i.e toll. This will be used to pay for a traffic island so tourist can safety take photos without getting run over.
Written March 18, 2016
I have not heard anything about charging to cross the road. I don't see how it would make it any safer from traffic.

when while be the lowest traffic @Abbey Rd crossing? Weekdays 8am or Sunday 4pm?

Hola, quisiera saber si el hotel cuenta con servicio de transfer (traslado) hacia el aeropuerto. Y cuál sería su valor para 5 personas. Gracias!
Hello, I need to know if the hotel has transfer service to de airport, and how much it cost for 5 persons. Thank You!!!
Written June 26, 2015
Lilia.. Todo depende del Hotel.. (Lugar.. Estrellas..etc).. App 200£-300£.... Depende de numero de * .. Ubicacion y nunero de cuartos...un abrazo. Mauro
