Karlstor is one of the three gothic gates to Munich Old Town. It was called Neuhauser Tor until 1791 when it was renamed according to the adjoining Karlsplatz.

Munich was surrounded by a city wall from the medieval ages till late into the 18th century.

This gate is the westernmost of these remaining gates. The other two are Isartor in the east and Sendlinger Tor in the southwest.

At the moment, there is construction work going on next to the gate.

The Bavaria statue in front of the Hall of Fame (Ruhmeshalle) at Theresienhöhe is probably one of the most impressive monuments in southern Germany. This is the work of sculptor Ludwig Schwanthaler (1850) and was considered a monument masterpiece at that time.

What you will see is a large bronze of a female figure, holding up a wreath while standing next to a male lion with a full mane. The monument is a personification of the State of Bavaria and is 18.5 metres tall while standing on a stone base that is nearly 9 metres in height. It is massive and very interesting to see if planning to spend time in this area.

Saw as part of a self guided walking tour of the city and it was worth the long walk to get to. Probably more impressive on a sunny day.

This is a very well-done memorial that’s a little off the beaten path, but very much worth visiting if you’re nearby at the Olympic Park or BMW Welt/Museum. It’s a very informative exhibit with photos and videos covering the 1972 Olympic hostage crisis and a moving memorial to the victims. It takes about 15 minutes to view it all.

A statue of Juliet from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. It is not something spectacular but it has become famous because of the belief that it will bring you luck if you touch its breast. So many people touched its breast that one of the breasts didn't rust.

I took a 1.5 mile walk from my hotel early one morning to see the Walking Man of Munich and I am glad I did as it is a fun and unusual landmark. Walking Man is a 1995 sculpture by Jonathan Borofsky that stands 17 metres (56 ft) tall and weighs in at 16 tonnes (35,000 lb). It is located on the Leopoldstraße in Munich, next to the Munich Re business premises. It was presented to the public on 21st September 1995. The sculpture was initially created in Los Angeles, taking more than a year to complete and made its way to Munich in nine pieces. It is well worth a visit and is a popular sculpture with visitors.

This bronze sculpture is depicting a sitting male wild boar in front of the German Hunting and Fishing Museum. There it forms an ensemble with the bronze sculpture of a catfish.

This wild boar was attracting more adults to take selfies while the catfish was more for kids.

We were walking from the Hofgarten towards Königsplatz and passed by this historic memorial. It commemorates an interesting aspect of Bavarian history. Although most German-speaking nations opposed Napoleon, Bavaria allied with France in attacking Russia in 1812. King Ludwig I commissioned the neoclassicist architect Leo von Klenze (known also for the Königsbau in the Munich Residenz and the Alte Pinakothek museum) to construct this 29-meter bronze Obelisk in memory of the 30,000 soldiers that died in this campaign.

The Obelisk itself sits in the center of an auto roundabout and you will need to carefully cross the street to reach the Karolinenplatz.

The little dragon statue on the wall of the city hall. It is not something big or actually magnificent but the story behind it makes Wurmeck significant. During the middle ages it was believed that a dragon came out of earth and spreaded black death. Then heroic citizens of Munich killed the dragon ending Black Death. I think this tale and this little statue show how people faced the terror, destruction and starvation caused by Black Death.

This is by far one of the oddes memorials I've seen in Munich. This is supposed to be a monument to the late Renaissance composer, Orlande de Lassus. The residents of Munich have commandeered this monument and turn it into a memorial to the late great Peter Pan of pop, Michael Jackson. Fans of the pop star have laid down many tributes of flowers, photos and other MJ memorabilia.

    Pity poor Orlande!

These lions mark the entrance into the Residenz to find the Cuvillies Theater. While they are regal and made for pictures, they also provide good luck if you rube the bottom of the shield. Superstition abounds in Munich as nearly every statue has a bright shiny part where people rub for luck. These lions are no different.

This square was designated in 1946 to commemorate the victims of National Socialism. In 1985, the memorial pillar with the eternal was constructed. In 2014, a bronze plaque was added with the inscription "In Memory of the Victims of National Socialist Tyranny" (Im Gedenken an die Opfer der nationalsozialistischen Gewaltherrschaft).

This bronze monument of the first King of Bavaria (1756–1825) is located in front of the Munich Opera House.

This impressive monument of the seated monarch was unveiled on October 13, 1835. The large statue rests upon a pedestal with detailed basreliefs.

Went by Promenadeplatz recently to see the monuments situated at this public square in the Old Town. Most interesting to me is the aluminium block sculpture of Maximilian Joseph Graf von Montgelas, the work of German artist Katrin Sander (2005)

This monument is nice to see even during December visits when the square is devoid of flowers in bloom and the trees bare of leaves. While the rest of Promenadeplatz may seem rather drab, this particular monument manages to stick out at this time of the year.

What you will find here is an interesting rigid wave pattern forming the outline of a male figure of Maximiliarn Joseph Graf the Count of Montgelas. It is an interesting monument more contemporary in shape and form compared to the traditional 19th-century monuments found further into Promenadeplatz
