In many ways, a typical brew-house, with antlers on the wall and a warm vibe. But of the five such places we sampled in a week in Munich, this was clearly the best. The menu is typical — hearty, rather than sophisticated — but everything is well made, including both the usual Bavarian dishes and surprisingly (at least to me) good fresh fish, prepared gently. And a decent wine list! The staff is very welcoming, and encourages a warm atmosphere. We shared a table with a German couple, and had a lot of fun talking with them (their English was very good, but we insisted on practicing our German).

Very atmospheric restaurant serving hearty Bavarian fare. We came across Zum Dunfbrau by accident as it is tucked down a side street in the centre of town. It looked nice from outside and was busy even in mid afternoon ( although it was Saturday). We managed to get a booking for that evening, although we were advised we would probably be on the long central table with others. We arrived a bit early but were shown through to our table- although it was as above, the restaurant have kept social distancing measures, so we were not crowded at all. The staff were friendly (I’ve seen other reviews where they were described as brusque, but honestly they worked flat out all night and don’t have time for long chats!). We ordered the Dunfbraupfandl ( pork medallions wrapped in ham, with pretzel dumplings and creamy mushroom sauce) and zwiebelrost brauten ( steak with crispy onions, Rosti potato and a salad). Both were very large portions and absolutely delicious. We had draft wheat beer which was a perfect accompaniment and a draft Williams schnapps to finish with. I saw several other dishes coming out from the kitchen and all looked amazing. Although the restaurant was very busy, we were never rushed and were allowed to finish in our own time. Highly recommend this restaurant for authentic local cuisine.

I had the Cordon Bleu schnitzel which was good but I was more impressed with the Wiener Schnitzel and roasted potatoes that my Bride ordered and grateful that she shared some with me ;-) The Löwenbräu Dunkel and the Zweigelt Red Wine was very pleasing. We ended the evening with the Apple Fritters with Vanilla ice cream dessert and were very satisfied. We will definitely return again!

Central location encourages a lot of English speakers and their respective delivery of English written menus. 23€ for a schnitzel, no tap water ( what for a non drinking child still expected to buy a bottle of water). Fast efficient service ( bordering on efficious) decent meal - quantity perhaps over quality. Service disappointing. Wouldn’t return.

Not impressed that we were charged €7 for water when we asked for tap water. Also not happy that we were forced to pay for pretzels that were just dumped on our table - when I brought this up with the waitress on the bill and asked why we were being charged for something we didn’t ask for or want she got angry and rude with me and brought her manager who was just as bad. Food was okay not great but the waitress just ruined it all.

We grabbed a dinner here after a day exploring old Munich city area. Since the weather was nice we ate outside. Service was a little slow but good. Staff spoke good, but not great English. Everything we ordered was very tasty and well prepared and well matched by the beers available. I was very pleased with the bacon wrapped medallions.

We arrived around 6 pm on a Wednesday evening. We were greeted immediately by a friend staff member. We enjoyed the beef/vegetable soup that was served with fresh horseradish - wonderful! Huge portion - two people can easily eat this as an appetizer. The others also ate the pork knuckle (huge!), the mushroom with pretzel dumplings (it was in a cream sauce), and the roast beef tenderloin. It was all wonderful.

I had found this restaurant through Trip Advisor and chose it as it was traditional and near our hotel. We arrived early and although it was ver found us a table, It was very friendly and we spoke to the people left and right of us. The service was very efficient and the food was good. We would definitely return.

A wonderful authentic German restaurant with a friendly staff The Wiener Schnitzel was huge and breaded perfectly. The veal Gordon Blu was filled with ham and cheese which all blended together in a wonderfully tasting dish. Both entrees included tasty potato salad.

Our hotel recommended the Zum Dürnbräu as a place we could go and experience traditional Munich fare. They weren’t wrong! We went late afternoon every day for our four day stay, such was the excellence of the food and service. It’s best to book first if you wish to eat later than 18:00 as all the tables are usually booked after then, but we found the staff very accommodating when we went in around 16:30/17:00 and we weren’t rushed at all. The local Cellar Beer is recommended and there’s decent who we to choose from if you wish. The food is typical Bavarian dishes, which are hearty and rustic, from Schnitzel to Roasted Pork without a chip in sight! But really tasty and filling. Good atmosphere and very friendly. Don’t miss out if you get the chance to visit.

Told to sit anywhere by the older man running the outside seating. Attempted to get menus for 30 min. We went ahead and walked in to gram a menu ourselves. Sat back down where several waiters walked by and acknowledged us. Attempted to order only to be told the seats were sat in (in the main area) were not being served. We just left. Complete waste of time.

Looking to experience as much local cuisine as possible. We were a little hesitant with some of the other reviews. I’m not sure what happened to them but we experience nothing but a wonderful service. We were a mixed group from different backgrounds and found the staff to all be helpful and friendly. The food was amazing and some of the best schnezal I’ve had in several trips to Germany and Austria. The plum desert was worth the 30 min wait and left us full and very satisfied. Great little place down the size street and would highly recommend

At 10 pm we wished to drink one last small beer. A lady at the entrance hardly let us in saying they were about to close, then said “ok, only one drink”. We ordered only 2 beers as one with us had migraine and did not wish to drink. The same rude lady refused our order, saying it was too small with only 2 of 4 people drinking. She behaved like if we had asked to drink for free or we may spoil the wooden bench by simply sitting on it. She left us and went back to counter. We realized she would not change her mind; when we asked “shall we go?”, she repeated the order was unacceptable. We left, speechless and feeling refused. Other comments about the place say that the personnel in this brauhaus is apparently rude, but nice in the end….well, no, that’s definitely not the way to treat customers. We don’t recommend the place.

Tall Male Waiter in 40s insisted on Tip when service was sub par. When inform in Germany service is included in the bill. He insisted again on Tips like a beggar, only when I refused he went to gossip to another waitress. Food is average.

For more than a decade I have been dining at Zum Dürnbräu, a Bavarian restaurant locaded a couple of blocks from Marienplatz. The service is friendly and the food is delicious. On my most recent visit to Munich, I visited Zum Dürnbräu on two occasions, both for dinner. The first time I dined inside and on the second visit I sat at one of the outside tables. On both occasions I had my typical fare – Zwiebelrostbraten (rump steak, pan fried, topped with fresh homemade fried onions, served with roasted potatoes and a small side salad) – along with a couple of mugs of beer. This is a great restaurant.
