Munich is a fun city to walk around, and Marienplatz is really busy with a great vibe, particularly when the Glockenspiel show is going on. I hate to say it, but the Glockenspiel show was underwhelming. Sure, it's cute, but it's REALLY basic, and I wouldn't bend over backwards to be in Marienplatz at 11am/12pm/5pm just to see the show. But if you're close by, it's fun to see. Regardless, sitting in Marienplatz to have a coffee or snack is really enjoyable even if the Glockenspiel isn't going on.

I visited with 3 teenaged daughters and we loved every minute. Wear comfortable shoes and keep in mind the walk is somewhat uneven and with cobblestone paths, if traveling with someone that may be slightly more at risk of falls. Although still so much to enjoy on safer routes. The summer was a little warm water is recommended. Not a lot of vendors or kiosks of any kind that Americans are used to seeing (thankful they don’t have them here as it would spoil the experience)
Architectural lovers will be so very pleased! The buildings and structures are phenomenal. Botanists and master gardeners goes without saying will be equally as thrilled. Plenty of space to run for the little ones, space on the ground to picnic with plenty of shade!
YES dogs are welcome! We saw both on and off leash. No restrictions on bringing in food - which I recommend as the cafe was delicious however pricey and the menu was not child friendly.
A beautiful place and I recommend it highly to all!

Massive collection of arts and historical artefacts. Phenomenal rooms. Definitely worth a visit. We purchased the combination ticket that grants access to both the museum and treasury rooms. The place is massive! Allow 1-2 hours for this visit. The tour also comes with a free audio guide.

Good day out. Tram 17 has a stop here then you can reach the place in a few minutes. The palace interiors screams opulence. Makes you wonder the parties they had there. Enjoyed walking on the nerby park. The ticket grants you access on a few buildings. Make sure to visit Pagodenburg and Baden urg. A definite stop when visiting Munich.

A lively open air market and Biergarten located in Old Town that is a must see! The variety of stalls and food throughout the market is impressive! The vendors are all friendly and great to work with.
We also enjoyed the Biergarten on our visit and loved that we could bring our own snacks if we sat at the picnic tables vs full service at the dining tables . Just make a quick visit to the ‘hut’ when a beer is needed! There is a public restroom near the Biergarten that is often overlooked!
    I would definitely recommend visiting!

Well worth the visit. I thought there would be movement on the clock, but it didn't happen. So many people are standing around and admiring this building.

This is a marvelous museum that is small enough to enjoy within an hour. Walking distance to many of the other museums and sites . Perfect example of art from 1850-1940s. Blue Rider art movement is big here.

Thankfully we had a well needed guide during our tour of Old Town/City Center who shared with us that the glockenspiel (cuckoo clock) on the new town hall in Marienplatz still works. Stop by at 11am and you will see the dancing and hear the chimes of the clock. It is quite magical and something which NEEDS to be seen/heard while in Munich.

This is a perfect place to see a performance. The acoustics are wonderful and the sound fills the auditorium perfectly. The orchestra is among the finest in the world. We sat on the side in one of the balconies and we could see and hear everything just fine. There are supertitles projected above the stage: on the left in German and on the right in English. If you sit in a space in which the supertitles are not visible, they have screens dangling from the bottom of balconies--however those are only in German. Although the website says that you should come as you are to the opera and be comfortable--this was a dress up crowd.

The glasshouses were interesting. It showcases plants from different climates ranging from tropical, alpine, arid desert and the prehistoric ones. A definite stop if you are travelling with kids. The place looks nice and tidy. Excellent friendly staff. Worth visiting.

Large buildings with museums in surrounding the gardens. The paths were a little slippery with the cold temperatures.

As you are touring the sites around Marienplatz, it is worth it to take a moment to appreciate the beautiful architecture of the Old Town Hall, especially in contrast to the architecture of the nearby New Town Hall. This much smaller white building features a unique gable facade and a spire that was reconstructed in the 1970s after being destroyed in World War II.

The Mariensaule is located in Munich in Marienplatz ... it is a column erect in 1638 to celebrate the departure of the Swedish occupation at the end of the 30 Years war.
The golden statue of the Virgin Mary - the Protector of Bavaria - was originally in the Frauenkirche but after 1638 it has taken its place on top of the column - hence the name Mariensaule.
So for those of you who are in the Munich visiting the Marienplatz this is a interesting landmark where you can take a few pics.
Enjoy Munich, enjoy Marienplatz and enjoy Mariensaule.
