    Beautiful Historic Building
The town hall is amazing. It was built in the late 1800s hence the "new" in the name. It only received minimal damage in WWII. The glockenspiel is pretty cool, especially the joust where a Bavarian knight in blue and white wins against a French opponent in red and white. The joust is from the wedding of Duke Wilhelm V and Renata of Lorraine in 1568 which took place on Marienplatz.

"Medieval" City Hall completed in 1909.
Germany survived the Middle Ages several times. The first time is real, not knowing that it was the Middle Ages (the term was invented by a professor from Halle, Christophor Keller). The second time it was invented by German romantics. but they did it in books. But in Bavaria it began to be known from the middle of the XIX century. For this, even a new style of "neo-Gothic" was invented. The new City Hall on Marienplatz is of the same category. Architect Hauberrisser can divide the City Hall into more average than average. After all, there were already cranes, elevators and other means of mechanization of construction. The City Hall was completed in 1909, when the era of aviation and dreadnoughts had already begun. In the "medieval" City Hall there is an elevator to the observation deck. Alas, the queue for it is long. The facade is decorated with ornaments and figures from Bavarian history. On the opening day of the City Hall, a bronze sculpture of Munchner Kindl is a character depicted on the coat of arms of Munich.

    Impressive Structure
The new Rathaus is the current seat of Munich's city government and has a commanding location in the Marienplatz. Constructed in the 1800s it has one of the most beautiful facades of any "city hall" in Western Europe. It is accentuated by the very tall tower/spire and the glockenspiel it contains. The ground floor is arcaded and contains shops and restaurants with the most famous the Rathskellar in the basement. Definitely a "must see" and would suggest taking a tour of the building.

    Old Looking New Town Hall
The construction of this beautiful building began in the late 19th century and continued into the early 20th century. The intricate detailing of the façade, with its pointed arches and ornate carvings, reflects the medieval influences that inspired its design. The New Town Hall serves as the seat of the city's government, housing administrative offices.

    City Hall
City hall building which makes up Marienplatz. You can walk into the courtyard area but beyond that it doesn't appear to be accessible unless on a special tour. Loads of history here. Best to read ahead before visiting.

Well worth the visit. I thought there would be movement on the clock, but it didn't happen. So many people are standing around and admiring this building.

In just a few moments, the elevator takes you to an altitude of 85 metres and you can see a different highlight of the city in every direction: directly opposite is the Alter Peter (church), on one side of the tower is the Frauenkirche (church), on the other the Altes Rathaus (old town hall) and to the north there is the Italian-looking Theatinerkirche (church). And if the weather is good, the impressive Alpine chains stretch across the entire horizon to the south.

There is definitely more to this place than the clock next to it so take a moment to properly appreciate the amazing architecture and the time it must have taken to create it.

Town Hall and the square are a must see when in Munich with much history. Great building and area. The band playing in the square (piano, flute, bass) were a great touch.

We visited the new Munich Town Hall, where the giant Glockenspiel re-enacts two medieval plays 3 times a day. We gathered with the crowd for the 5:00 showing. Interesting I guess. (?)
