Hotel Riu Jalisco offers a beachfront location that is generally well-received for its atmosphere, although it's a bit removed from downtown. While the hotel provides an array of nightly entertainment suitable for families, opinions on value vary, with some guests deeming it affordable and others feeling it falls short. Service experiences are inconsistent, ranging from friendly to unresponsive. Amenities like the beach and pools are praised, yet some find the facilities outdated and overcrowded. The cleanliness is adequate, but room conditions and noise levels can be problematic for some visitors.

I visited this hotel with my boyfriend and his parents for 2 weeks in January 2020. The hotel is good for the price, the grounds are lovely and big and the pools/beach are lovely! The rooms are a bit basic but are kept spotlessly clean by the maids and the optics/mini fridge is refilled every 2 days. We had a room on the 6th floor with a great sea view. The staff in the hotel are all very polite and helpful although it does seem that they are a bit rushed off their feet at times in the restaurants and bars. The hotel could do with another bar by the pool/beach as you often have to stand in a long queue for a drink during the day. The food is of a good standard there is always plenty of choice and restaurants to go to. The only comments I would make is that the food is sometimes luke warm at the buffet. Also there is a steak restaurant which you have to queue for at 6.30 pm as they allocate reservations on a first come first served basis and it is an A La Carte Restaurant which is annoying, I would recommend that the hotel implements a booking service to avoid queuing. The Italian Restaurant was our favourite. The entertainment isn’t great, having stayed at a Rui Hotel in Mexico before (Riu Tequila) I would say in comparison the entertainment was lacking something, the shows weren’t as good at night and during the day there wasn’t much going on at the pools... no water polo, bingo or water volley ball. Overall we did have a lovely holiday, I probably wouldn’t return in the future as I’d like to try other hotels if I was back in the area but would recommend this one to people who are looking for a reasonably priced good standard of holiday.

Too many kids in adult pool. Children should either be in the baby pool or the one that has slides which should be for children up to age 15.These parents let their children go in the pool with the swim up bar which shold be for adults only. These small children have diapers on and the pee and poo and don't care. We could not enjoy the pool or the swim up bar and the chairs in the water at one end of the pool were always full of children playing with floaties, balls, etc. Also there were children going up to the bars and getting their own drinks. This is wrong they do not belong at a bar. you need to post an area just for kids and let the adults enjoy their vacation. It is the same thing in all the restraurants, the kids handle everything with their hands and put back what they have touched and don't want. My husband and I were sick for 1 week and had to had to see the Dr. and we could of picked up some kind of sickness from these children. Otherwise the hotel is beautiful and it is so quiet. We loved the idea that there always was enough chairs for everyone. The food was great and our maid was excepable. The other thing is if you are a American they will not take US cash. We were lucky and took extra cash with us or we would of been screwed. They take every other kind of currency but not US cash. They cater to the people from Canada.

Hotel is a little dated but kept clean and everything worked for the most part. one persons fridge did not work in there room but it was replaced when reported another person room the toilet would run on and off but other then that everything worked fine. The rooms are not very quiet as you can here everything going on in adjoining rooms which tends to wake you through the night if you have noisy neighbours.

The food was good by all inclusive standards and service in the restaurants was good. The pool area and beach area was the biggest let down in that the service and cleaning or the pool and glasses left around the pool area needs to be improved. Also they should limit where people can smoke as this is a smokers paradise. Many person here seems to smoke everywhere and then just discard the cigarette buts on the ground. The beach is littered by them and they are also plenty around the pool deck. It is a family friendly resort but it seems many parents bring there kids to the pool with the pool bar instead of using the other pool which if you are looking to not have splashing kids around kid of takes away from the pool area.

overall if you are looking for a cheaper place to stay and can over look some of the smaller inconveniences this is the place for you.

If i was to return I would stay at the neighbouring Riu Vallarta as it has just been redone and the service and pool area seemed to be better there.

Last year June we stayed at Vallarta. We came here on friday night for the White party. We really liked the looks of the pools with all the palm trees , so we booked here for this year. Had lots of fun with the activities , thank you Horatio for picking on me , it went both ways lol. The food was really good, did most evenings in the buffet, Thanks to Alphonso for going above with the table service.
Out room was on the 4th floor facing the court yard , with the sliding doors closed , it was pretty quiet. The king bed was comfortable , pillow could be a bit better. The a/c worked fine , kept us cool while sleeping
Our mini fridge never got filled , with the riu app just ordered more water and coffee packs
Sunwing booking states that no coffee makers in the room, they did have one for us.
Sports bar was good for early morning beverages
Front desk was great to deal with, check in and money exchange
over all a great time , hopefully we will be back here this winter

My husband and I just returned from a 2 week stay at the Riu Jalisco. It's been a few years since we've done an AI resort so we weren't sure if we would like it. Happy to say, we loved it!

I always like to start with positives so here goes:
The hotel and rooms are kept very clean. Yes, it's a bit dated, but the cleaning staff are excellent, especially the ladies that clean the rooms daily;
We thought the food was really good, the buffet was just as good as the a la carte restaurants;
The Sports Bar has an espresso machine, so go there for your morning cappucino;
Wifi was excellent everywhere in the resort;
The Neon and White parties on Friday nights are super entertaining and fun, if you get into it! Michael Jackson show was a favourite;
The beach and pool are lovely, lots of shade to be found, the ocean water is warm and good for swimming; nice beach for walking as far as you want;
You are able to go to the Riu Vallarta (just a 3 minute walk) and use their amenities--we went there for late afternoon cocktails in the Lobby Bar. That hotel has been renovated and is more upscale than the Jalisco.

Of course, there are some negatives:
It's dated and in dire need of a renovation. The purple and black lobby and the orange lobby bar are hard on the eyes;
Certain areas do smell. The smaller buffet restaurant has a definite smell (can't tell what it is, but you get used to it) and you can smell the disco when you walk by (it's not pleasant, and they did shut it down while we were there);
The lighting is too bright in some areas, like the steakhouse, which takes away from the ambiance;
The towel system is annoying. You have to check each one in and out every day using your card, and you can't trade them in during the day when they get wet;
SMOKE! It seems like everyone smokes, and those of us that don't, don't love sitting in it on the beach;
We ate at the steakhouse 3 times. First time was excellent, second was awful in terms of both food and service, third was average. We liked the meat at the buffets just as much. Italian was good, chinese was less than average, but I didn't go to Mexico for chinese food!

Overall, we had a great stay at this resort, the value was really very good. It's big and busy, but that's what you get for your dollar at an all-inclusive. Lots of fellow Canadians!

My second visit to the riu jaliso,
recent trip was 30/12/2010 to 06/01/2020. Was there this time with my parents. Had requested to be close to amenities due to my mom's health issues and were relegated to something practically in a different resort. They told us we would not be able to change as they were at maximum occupancy and that we could rent a wheel chair to accommodate my mom's special needs. I accepted this only to learn later that another couple were having issues with the cleaning products in the room and were immediately accommodated to another room.
Our TV was also on the fritz and when I tried to dial front desk realized the phone was also on the fritz so had to trek the long haul to the lobby to lodge complaint.
they did fix issues once they were advised.
the food was very good, so were the grounds and pool areas.
my worst experience was at the Renova Spa,
was trying to book a treatment for a relaxation massage
we were herded in and out like sheep. the lady named Karen was very rude. Insisted on payment though could not confirm if she would be able to fit us in
when the treatment went right up to 6 pm, we were literally thrown out so that they could close shop as they close at 6. I mean were were only a few minutes past 6. Karen was huffing and puffing in a very discourteous way. This is considered to be a 4 + star resort and they do charge good money for these treatments so better customer service should be displayed.
will I go back to this resort. Yes!! Will I have a treatment no way!!
If you are hail and hearty with minimal requirements this is a good resort, with all amenities and in most parts good service.

At first i thought the food was amazing, but if your here for 14 nights it abit repeated. Rooms are ok just don't get one next to ice machine as its abit noisy. Been woke up a few times with people coming back to rooms, but have a few drinks to help you sleep. We were on ground floor and got a smell coming from sewers.
Although they have lifts everything is a distance away so not good for mobility.
The girl that cleans the toilets besides the pool bar is amazing, she is there all day cleaning, compared to the foyer toilets there a big let down.
This hotel would be better if it had an adult section at pool, they have 2 kids pools but seem to stay at adults. Not a good sight to take kids when people are overdoing it at the pool bar. Keep your kids to kids pool.
If your looking for a busy hotel this is the place as it does get lively by the pool or if you want quite time go to beach.
Evening entertainment is really good and staff involve you throughout the night.
Bar staff at the villa bar are fantastic, they top you up without asking and have a brilliant memory.

The main restaurant where you get get breakfast and dinner ive only one complained. The girl that works in the evening outside collects the ice and uses her hand to move the ice. Ive noticed this on a few occasions as was next to my room. Never took one drink from her. Not once and put me off taking anything from her. I actually took a picture but didn't want to embarrass her.

Couple of excursions you should try are turtles release its free and only a donation, get taxi from hotel. Off the grid to secluded beach was amazing, ask me for details.

Depending what your looking for this hotel was nice but being a couple
looking for a relaxing time, we.should have booked the sister
hotel. Evening entertainment was one of the best ive been to so 5 stars for that.

This was our 3rd stay at the Jalisco in 4 years. We like the location and the layout of the resort. We stayed this time for 9 nights which normally is not available with Sunwing where we fly from but the Sunwing package used Westjet as the carrier so we had more options this time. We still utilized Sunwing reps on location as just the flight was Westjet.

Our last 2 stays we had the identical room but it was unavailable for our stay this time so we stayed right above it on the top floor. We utilized the stairs at the end of the wing to access the 6th floor room and man those 100 stairs up and 100 down were a workout at times by the end of the day but we like the location and the excercise.

Hotel needs some attention in the areas of cleanliness and upkeep. Needs painting in many areas and others need a good clean compared to our other stays. Covid staffing may be playing a part in this area. The resort was operating at about 55% capacity during our stay and they were limited to 70% by government regulations. TheRIU Vallarta next door was at same 70% limitation but was at about 77% capacity during our stay. We did try to switch to the Vallarta from Jalisco just for the fact if we were stuck in our room after a positive Covid test we would have a nicer room to hang out in but due to them being over capacity we could not move. After seeing the crowds there on the beach compared to Jalisco we are maybe lucky we did not move taking Covid into account.

We ate at all a la cartes during our stay. Italian 2x, Steakhouse 2x, Mexican 1x, Asian 1x and all were good but we love the Italian and Steakhouse the best.

Mandatory masks at all bars when going for drinks except of course swim up bar and if you had no mask you did not get a drink with no exceptions made that I noticed at least. Also mandatory masking at restaurants while entering and leaving as well as while filling plate at any buffet areas.

We again met up with our favorite waiter at breakfast and Lunch who looked after us daily with having a table waiting for us at breakfast with juices waiting and also watching for us to walk up at lunch. His name is Marcos and has been there many years and loves his job.

Entertainment was in full swing except for the White and Neon parties as well as Disco was still closed during our stay.

Would we return for a 4th stay???? Yes, but likely not until some basic renovations or possibly a full renovation of the resort. Would likely book the Vallarta or Palace next stay although we like the ambiance of the Jalisco.

Covid PCR testing was booked and we were 1st to arrive and we were out of there in 5 mins. Results were sent the next morning and all info was correct.

Transportation for us as we arrived on a Westjet flight for the Sunwing package was a private taxi on both transfers there and back to airport.

I had been here before but I was hoping that the hotel would have at least been renovated by now. I stayed on the 6th floor on the outer side — while away from the elevators I eventually came to appreciate the lack of noise that came with being at this location. If you have never been to the Jalisco — it doesn’t sell rooms for the view. Moving out fo your room will require something to be broken (according to the front desk).

While my room was very clean and my fridge was constantly stocked, the room was dated and the AC didn’t work well at all. It had a nice flatscreen TV. There were no USB ports for those of you who expect that. It’s still
In its old brown and beige colors — I think they tried to modernize it a bit with different headboards, lamp shades and mattress. The mattress was extra firm. When I compare the Riu Jalisco to the Riu Santa Fe in Cabo (which I believe is supposed to be its equivalent as the “family” oriented resort of the 3 Rius) this is nowhere near as nice. There was no coffee machine in my room either.

If you are up early and go for breakfast, there is only one restaurant with the same things every morning and there is was no omelette station.

What used to be the adult pool (pool #2), definitely isn’t one anymore. They didn’t enforce the rules back then and they certainly don’t enforce the rules now if it still is considered an adult pool. They aren’t supposed to allow diving but the amount of pool water I got into my drink because of it…well 🙄 Drinks were pretty good.

The service was great. The cleaning staff, bartenders, front desk, pool maintenance etc were all very polite and helpful.

Beside modernizing the hotel, which is out of the control of the staff, my suggestion to them would be to have more security at the pool by way of enforcing some rules. Every day, two small groups of people irritated everyone around the swimup bar area as they dove in, jumped in, played with their balls. There is an area of the pool where volleyball can be played and that is where those people should be forced to go when there is no game going on.

Honestly it’s not bad but now that I have been to other Riu hotels that are better, I don’t think I will return here unless the price just makes it too good to pass up.

We visited here as a family of 6 Adults aged 20’s, 30’s & 60’s and we wish we didn’t bother!

Dirty rooms and pool area. Full of Mexicans being sick in the pool and escorted back to their hotel room in the wheelchair of shame! Yes they have a wheelchair for when guests are unable to walk due to the amount of alcohol & drugs they have had and wet themselves. We witnessed this happening around 3 times a day. This hotel should be stripped of the RIU brand. We have visited many other RIU hotels and this is by far the worst.

Food: The buffet restaurant was the best, had to wait two hours at the steak restaurant and was given the wrong order that was inedible. Wine wasn’t available in the steak restaurant, so I ended up walking to the nearest bar for wine during the meal, which the staff should have done. Service was better in the Italian restaurant but the food was cold.

Building work was continuous throughout the day and was extremely loud in the rooms and around the pool. I explained this to guest services and was told the noise was only in the day as if that was okay! We are on holiday and if I want to relax around the pool or nap in the room I have paid for in the day I should be able to.

Pool was vile, full of children Screaming/splashing at the pool bar that was apparently forbidden ( children allowed in the pool but not at the pool bar) but was allowed by hotel staff. You couldn’t get a drink due to the about of drunken Mexicans screaming whilst drinking shots.

The hotel was constantly flooding, the ceilings were leaking and the ice machines on each floor were out of order for our entire stay.

Entertainment was abysmal, not at the expected RIU standard, the best night was the white party.

Rooms were dirty with pubic hairs in the sink on arrival, broken furniture and balcony doors that didn’t lock.

The beach was dirty and you was constantly approached and asked if you wanted to buy drugs. (The beach is a public beach that is connected to the pool area) No hotel security at the beach entrance.

*** We expressed our concerns & that we did not want to stay here & this was not a 5* hotel to guest services and our TUI rep on several occasions and they both was useless. ***

The best part of this holiday was when we went out for the day to Walmart (great crisp selection) and the flight home.

My advice would be to visit the caribbean side of Mexico, the beaches, ocean and hotels are to a much higher and acceptable standard. #HonestMary

Response from Riu Hotels and Resorts, Dueño at Hotel Riu Jalisco
Responded Sep 2, 2020
Dear HonestMary, Thank you for choosing RIU Hotels and Resorts once again for your vacation. We are proud to have earned your loyalty over the years, which makes it truly disappointing that your latest stay in October last year fell short. It's unfortunate to hear you weren't completely satisfied with your experience, as we strive to provide all of our guests with a wonderful holiday from beginning to end. We are very concerned by your words as what you describe does not at all reflect our services and standards. Especially your comment about not feeling well attended by our guest service comes as a surprise. Please rest assured that we will follow up with our management team. The Riu Jalisco Hotel is a Fun4All Hotel, which within RIU represents the houses with the largest and most extensive entertainment and activity programme for our guests of all ages. For this reason we are also very popular with families with children. Perhaps one of our Adults Only Hotels (18 years and older) for guests who want to relax and enjoy their holiday as a couple or with friends could be an option for your upcoming stay. We hope you give us another opportunity to serve you in perhaps one of our other RIU hotels more suitable for you. Kind regards, Hotel Riu Jalisco Online Reputation Manager

Unlimited al la carte, first come first served, Yes sister hotels, so you can visit each other, just not for breakfast or dinners. Not allowed at Riu Palace Pacifico at all. Side of building habe quieter rooms, north side best, but there can still be loud guest, like all resorts. Rius are good VALUE , no room service, Palace has that, but younget in room free bar, beer, pop, water in fridge, free safe.
