Hotel Riu Jalisco offers a beachfront location that is generally well-received for its atmosphere, although it's a bit removed from downtown. While the hotel provides an array of nightly entertainment suitable for families, opinions on value vary, with some guests deeming it affordable and others feeling it falls short. Service experiences are inconsistent, ranging from friendly to unresponsive. Amenities like the beach and pools are praised, yet some find the facilities outdated and overcrowded. The cleanliness is adequate, but room conditions and noise levels can be problematic for some visitors.

On our way to the airport there was a protest that shut down the road to the airport. We had to stay in Puerto Vallarta for 3 extra days. Had this not happened I would never come to Mexico again based on our stay at the Hotel Riu Jalisco.

1) The food was mediocre at best. It was always a scavenger hunt to put something together at every single buffet. You want tortillas? They are on one line, then cheese on another line, then meat yet another. The food lacked flavor and was consistently like warm. At the Asian restaurant there was pad thai offered on the menu, but the buffet has this glob of noodles. Prepare to eat at a buffet for every single meal. We left the resort for 4 dinners because we couldn’t take it anymore.

2) We never had hot water for a shower the entire week we were there. I notified the front desk and the sent maintenance up. The maintenance person told me to turn the faucet on at the same time as the shower to get hot water.

3) The rooms are outdated, sheets were stained and pillows were wafer thin.

4) You are only allowed 1 towel at the pool per day. If your towel gets wet from being in the pool you will have a soggy towel all day. On another side note about the pool, there is no pool service for drinks/food. The bars are set up pool side, but wait service is not offered.

5) The jacuzzi was never operable and was closed for our whole stay.

6) the ATM in the lobby was never functional.

7) one bartender purposefully made drinks incorrectly and said he did not work for our tips. The round before that we had left 10$ US.

8) Most staff had a flat affect and treated me like an inconvenience. Our cleaning person showed up at 8 am one day, asked for them to come back in an hour. They did not return for the rest of the trip.

Skip this resort. You would be better off staying at the holiday Inn in Puerto Vallarta and taking day trips to beaches, or using their pool.

The hotel is amazing with a quiet pool and a lovely pool with lots of outdoor entertainment all day. The entertainment work so hard and as a result get a fantastic response from guests who turn up in their droves to take part in games and competitions plus the evening entertainment is marvellous. I recommend the Neon Party and White Party. Other hotels come and join in with these 2 events so it gets pretty packed because it is so good! The food is amazing with a mountain of choice to suit everyone’s taste, The staff can’t do enough for you and are always welcoming with smiles on their faces no matter how busy or what time of day or night it is and the hotel is spotless. If I had to find any form of negative feedback, I would say the rooms are looking a bit tired and need updating. Our room smelt of dampness but apparently it’s the humidity! But it didn’t stop us enjoying our holiday and the maids are brilliant with little towel decorations left at the end of our bed every day! The hotel is spotless throughout. We will certainly be returning,

Don’t let the bad reviews put you off! The Riu Jalisco is BEAUTIFUL, wonderfully landscaped with great facilities. Bars everywhere, alcohol everywhere, minibars well stocked with soft drinks, great pools, beautiful beaches. Would like palapas or umbrellas on the beach but that’s basically my only complaint. Otherwise 10/10 for the price you pay! I feel like they walk the line between making sure everyone gets to eat and drink as much as they like, and making sure no one gets rowdy enough to ruin it for other guests. Very impressive. The staff is all extremely friendly, nothing too much for them. Rooms were quite big, comfortable, clean, and every room has a balcony. It does get quite quiet after 11pm but for me, hanging out with my partner and one other couple, it was perfect. Loved my stay at my first all inclusive, it will not be my last!

Just returned from a week at the Riu Jalisco. This was our third stay at a Riu so we had high hopes but we were obviously spoiled at the previous two (Riu Palace Mexico and Riu Palace Riviera Maya) as we were most disappointed with this resort.

Pros:
The view from our room of the fountains
The pools had some nice character
Beds were comfortable

Cons:
We only had waiter service at the pool twice during our stay. Other than that you were in a lineup.
No waiter service at all on the beach.
Service in general was quite poor but we wondered if they might be short staffed.
None of the staff were particularly friendly which is unusual.
Food was definitely not up to the usual Riu standard. We only went to the buffet for dinner once, not impressed. Italian and Asian restaurants were our favourites and they were just OK.
The resort is definitely in need of an update and they weren't on top of maintenance issues.

No fault of the resort but we really did not care for the wind that would start up around 11 am and not let up for the rest of the day. Might be alright in the really hot summer but not in March. It even whistled through the lobby bar when we came down for our pre dinner drink. I guess that's an unfortunate part of being on the Pacific side.

If anyone still cares about masks for Covid, they were virtually non existent in the guests. All staff were wearing them. The resort says that masks are mandatory when you're inside as is the use of hand sanitizer. Definitely not so.

We will not be returning.

Nevertheless, we will forward your remarks about what not satisfactory to the management in order to apply the appropriate adjustments. Yours sincerely, Hotel Riu Jalisco Online Reputation Manager

Just returned home yesterday from the RIU Jalisco and wish I could give a better review. We would never choose to stay at the RIU Jalisco again, and honestly, the experience has possibly turned me away from all RIU properties in the future.

The room was ‘okay’ - the staff did their best to keep the room and spaces clean, but you could tell they were understaffed for the amount of people they were allowing in. There was a huge influx of people in the afternoon and especially over the weekend.

The restaurants were mediocre, at best. By our last morning I couldn’t even force myself to eat breakfast because it was the same thing served over and over and even if you were there early some of the food looked like it had been sitting out for far too long.

The staff in the restaurants were kind and doing their best, they were just overrun with people.

The entire resort did not feel clean. There are not enough public restrooms and the ones there are not kept clean. The last day, the entire place smelled like sewer. The pool water did not feel clean or fresh, one day a staff member mixed up a bucket of chlorine and dropped it right beside us in the water mid-afternoon. The shower had standing water in it during every shower. The room was very hot and even after asking for someone to come in and fix the a/c, we were told we could not be accommodated. The thermostat in our room did not work, however they sent a maintenance worker in to ‘test’ the temperature and told me it was fine and there was nothing they could do. Had I not been traveling with my children, and already missed 2 hours of the day inside dealing with maintenance, I would have packed us up and moved to another resort.

The best thing we did while in PV was take an excursion to Las Caletes. Not only was it beautiful and so much fun, it got us away from this resort for almost an entire day. And the meal served as Las Caletes was the best meal of our entire trip.

Happy to be home.

Not the best!
Pros, beach was great and lots of room to walk and enjoy…except for the horse poop! The grounds were well kept and staff taking care for the flowers and surrounding area were very diligent.
Cons, beds weren’t comfortable, pillows need to be replaced, very lumpy! Room was smelly, and a bits of black mould. My sons backpack was empty and on the table, by wks end, it was covered in mould. Food was ‘ok’ in buffet, fairly good selection, when dishes were filled. A la carts, horrible system of having to line up….an hr before the steak house and Italian. Many dishes were very salty!!! Our room fridge leaked all over the floor constantly…which could have been part of the smell in our room.
Our family had to deal with a scary situation regarding there tv!! Being threatened by the management and having to pay a huge amount for a tv they didn’t break!!!! My suggestion to anyone reading this….check all things out in your room on your 1st hr being there!!!!

We traveled with our kids (5 and 3) and extended family, group of 14, everyone had such a great time, we all said we’d do it again. This was our second trip to the Riu Jalisco first time with the kids! We noticed many other groups of families also staying here, it’s a perfect resort to accommodate a family trip. It’s such a good value for a great experience, where the kids stay and eat for free we just paid for the upgraded family room. There is always activities to keep everyone busy and great evening entertainment. Their big nights are on Friday with their Riu party, which is so much fun for all, it quits at 11pm, we never had an issue with noise any time we’ve stayed here, everyone sleeps well. We always enjoyed what this property had to offer. It’s very clean and beautiful, the maid service is very good, and we always came back to a nicely cleaned room, you see staff cleaning up cups and garbage from around the pools all throughout the day, they’re very attentive to keeping the property clean. Sometimes at breakfast or dinner in the main buffet you’re waiting to get coffee, water or a drink but the service overall is very good. A variety of delicious food to keep everyone happy and full. We enjoyed this trip very much especially staying at the Jalisco. We will likely be back again!

We stayed here 6/28/23 - 7/2/28. Overall, our family enjoyed themselves here. The grounds are beautiful, clean, and they do a good job at handling so many guests. I liked the fact that you didn't have to reserve poolside or beach spots early as there always seemed to be spots available, even for our large group of 8 travelers. The rooms are hit and miss. 2 of our rooms were great, but the larger family style room had a musty smell in it the whole time, despite bringing Damprid (look it up on Amazon) to reduce the humidity in the rooms. The rooms had minifridges with cold drinks, and a minibar which we didn't really use at all. The mattreses were pretty low quality and felt cheap and springy. Honestly, the food was meh. It all looked really good, but wasn't great. Definitely edible, but not gourmet by any means. There are a lot of choices for food. The beach was beautiful. Went out for a swim but was called in by a hotel worker who said it wasn't safe. Seemed relatively calm to me. This hotel can take about 30 - 40 minutes to get to from the airport depending on traffic. If you want to go into town, it will cost around $25 US for a taxi that will sit up to 4. Bring pesos or small bills to tip the wait staff and cleaning staff. These folks work really hard and deserve to make a little extra! I feel like we got what we paid for here and will most likely stay at a Palace Riu next time which is supposed to be a little nicer.

Dont forget to bring:
1) bugspray (mosquitoes are brutal, especially in evening)
2) bug bite cream (you will get bit)
3) small bills for tipping (US or pesos are fine)
4) ear plugs (folks returning to their rooms after a night out can be loud)

Although you advertise no reservations at the restraints the steak house was doing so and restricting attendance, definitely not as advertised. Several days over the three weeks.staffing was minimal especially in the buffets where often dirty dishes were not removed between meal courses. The room cleaners had to be reminded of room cleaning preferences. When I requested to speak with the hotel manager staff stonewalled me and he never did show up or call me as requested.
Despite the laws smoking and vaping was permitted in and around the pool areas.

I really don't know where to start!!
First time in Puerto Vallarta RIU Jalisco and this place is terrible the food is bad, poor customer service.

If you're coming from the United States please don't come here ..this hotel only services the people who live in Puerto Vallarta. I mean the moment my family got into the pool all the locals were just staring at us very uncomfortable.

Also the late night food is only hot dog , Burgers and sandwiches. They're kept in the refrigerator.
Worst part about that it's only one microwave in the entire building..so we waited 1 1/2 to warm up our food.

My kids was very disappointed

Unlimited al la carte, first come first served, Yes sister hotels, so you can visit each other, just not for breakfast or dinners. Not allowed at Riu Palace Pacifico at all. Side of building habe quieter rooms, north side best, but there can still be loud guest, like all resorts. Rius are good VALUE , no room service, Palace has that, but younget in room free bar, beer, pop, water in fridge, free safe.
