The hotel, food, drinks and service were all great. We'll be back! The grounds were well kept and beautiful. Great to see all the families enjoying themselves.it was fun body surfing in the waves. It's a great beach to walk.

My husband and I recently travelled to the Rui Jalisco in Puerto Vallarta with 6 family members. We booked with Sunwing and while we were not so happy with Toronto, Sunwing Mexico provided excellent service. The hotel, food, beach, entertainment and activities available were all to our satisfaction. I have to give a shout out to our Sunwing representative Rafael Mauas Reyes. He made us feel welcome right from the start and his spirit and energy were infectious. Always willing to help with any of our requests he went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy. He also recommended an excursion called “I Love Mexico” which was not only entertaining, fun and informative it also was a way for Sunwing to give back to the local community. Rafael and many other Sunwing reps were in attendance and donated their time so that proceeds could aid the village we visited. Rafael took a very active role in the fiesta. His love for his people and his country were very evident and his hospitality on this excursion outstanding!! Great value and a great family excursion. Not to be missed!!

Just returned from Riu Jalisco and will break down the pros and cons.
Pros: Tons of available chairs on the beach and by the pool, never had trouble getting any! Food is delicious and the service was great. I definitely recommend going to the steak house. We went on our last night and wish we would have gone sooner so that we could have kept coming back!!
Evening entertainment was awesome with something for everyone (white party, riding a mechanical bull, karaoke). The sports bar was open 24/7 but we rarely spent any time there.
The ocean was beautiful and there were no rocks to watch out for. Waves weren't overly big, but just enough for you to be able to boogie board. My group chose to pay and ride the banana boat; WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! We were able to see dolphins up close in the Bay.
Cons: No umbrellas on the beach, only the shade of the palm trees. Locals were walking around with umbrellas you could rent, but we didn't bother to spend the money.
Rooms are decent but the WALLS ARE SO THIN! you can hear EVERYTHING in the hall and out in the courtyard. I was surprised to see that no one else has written about that. Maybe i am just a light sleeper? Pack ear plugs.
Vendors coming up to you on the beach was also something that annoyed us. It took a few 'no's' for them to stop coming up to us.
Other than that, we had a great stay. Met some awesome new friends from around the world. Would definitely return!

We returned to Riu Jalisco in February because we really liked this resort. This year we brought 14 friends and family with us. Loved the beach and the fact there was plenty of shade and no rush for chairs. The food was fine and all service was great.
We visited here last year and unfortunately at the start of our vacation I badly broke the femur in my leg when I missed the bottom step on the staircase down into the lobby. Both the resort and Sunwing were super helpful in helping us access medical care and making arrangements to get us home. The biggest disappointment this year was nothing has been done to the step to make it more visible. Last year when we returned to the resort after surgery and 4 days in the hospital we witnessed a lady crash off this step and were then informed from friends that there had been others.
This year during our stay 2 from our group missed the step with one spraining her ankle and we helped one other lady up after she Missed the step. We also met 2 other people who missed the step 1 of these people badly sprained her ankle. This is just people we witnessed or spoke with so I am sure there are many many more. RIU there must be some way to make this step more visible maybe use some bright purple tiles, as well as extending the handrail to the floor.
I did speak with customer service twice while we were there just bringing the step to their attention. They seemed to know there was a real issue with the step but did not know if it was fixable. I just really hope no one else breaks any bones because of this step.
I must add again this year we had great service. Our group requested rooms on a higher floor but for us it was not a great fit as we were a long way from the elevator, I still use a cane and 4 flights of stairs for me and my leg was not going to work. As quickly as was possible they relocated us to the ground floor as close to the beach as possible. They also located our daughter close to us when she arrived for our 2nd week. We really appreciate that. Hopefully we visit this resort again and something has been done with that step. It really is a nice resort.

This was our first time in Puerto Vallarta. Family of four with two children aged 7 and 9. Lovely, sandy beach easily accessible from hotel. Two large pools, family pool on the left (often visited by iguanas) and adult pool on the right with the swim up bar and music. Lots of shade on the beach and by the pool. Clean and very well maintained. It is an older but updated property. Food is excellent with lots of variety of fruit and salads and vegetarian dishes. Personally loved Mexican themed restaurant as well as the steakhouse. You will not go hungry here. Good selection of drinks and cocktails. Elevator is located next to reception which is not very convenient for those staying in rooms closer to the beach. The good news is there is a staircase located at the each end of the hotel which will bring you down closer to the beach. Its also a good exercise after lunch/dinner :-) Uber and taxi are available from hotel for those who want to explore the local area. We went on Yelapa and Majahuitas boat tour with Vallarta adventures and had a great day on the water and a short hike to the waterfall. Also took Uber to Sayulita, beautiful small Mexican village where people go surfing on the beach. Felt safe to travel everywhere with children.
