We had a great time here, even though this was not our normal way to vacation. We have not been to many all inclusives but this one had many positives. First of all it is clean. You see people working hard at the resort day and night. The grounds are very lovely and well maintained. The rooms are clean and decorated tastefully, with no frills. We stayed in a room with a king bed and a set of bunk beds which was perfect for our 6 and 9 year old boys. The beach is lovely, not wavy, nice sand and very shallow. Excellent for kids, but not if you are a snorkeler. We did see a couple of turtles. There were always plenty of chairs. Very family friendly resort. I read some of the other comments before we left about the Mexican people being rude but I did not find this to be the case. They were mostly families just vacationing like us, and keeping to themselves. The adult pool was the busiest and it is not really an adult pool lots of kids who are enjoying the many activities like water polo and volleyball. These were on everyday and rugby the excellent entertainment staff. My 9 year old got to try things he had never done and was thrilled and they always made hi feel welcome. The drinks were fine ad far as I can tell but I am not an expert. The food was good, the stark restaurant and the Mexican restaurants were the only ones we tried but they were efficient and the food was good. The buffet was good as well always lots of choices and each night had a different theme. You would have some of the staple foods but a few other choices as well, especially at the hot stations. There was plenty of seating. Overall a very good experience, however the resort is just too big for us. That would be the only reSon we would not go back. If you are looking for more American or Canadian guests or less kids go to the Riu Vallarta 2 hotels over. We walked over and it was smaller and lees kids at our glance of a visit.

I was feeling quite apprehensive about my stay at the Riu Jalisco because of a number of negative reviews I had read beforehand. However, I only have praise for this hotel and the staff. My suggestion: don't get hung up on the negative reviews!!! My friend and I had the vacation of a lifetime here. We are two girls in our late twenties and found it to be a great balance of a fun and relaxation. The sunwing reps were excellent - shout out to Jorge :). We also found the entertainment staff to be super (Kalimba, Gloria and Jorge were fantastic). The hotel rooms are clean, and don't believe the bad reviews about the beds - ours were really comfy. Everything about our stay was great. The staff were extremely accommodating and always available to help or to answer any questions. We were picked up from the airport by sunwing and the process was extremely smooth sailing. The hotel isn't too far away from the airport and the hotel grounds were really well kept. We took a long walk along the beach and actually thought our hotel looked a lot nicer than most of the others we saw. It was lovely being right on the ocean and if you head there at 6pm-ish in the evening you can catch a beautiful sunset. The 2 pools were both clean, and the swim up bar was a lot of fun. The entertainment was great in the evenings and we tended to spend the rest of the evening by one of the bars. Although the hotel says you don't have to tip, make sure you take some US dollar bills or some 20 Pesos bills to give as tips- the local wage is really low (I think a bartender for instance makes $6-7 a day) and the staff do such an excellent job you'll want to leave them something. I was really disappointed by a lot of the reviewers who made negative comments about the locals. First of all, everyone we met was extremely friendly, and if you don't want to meet local people why on earth would you go to another country?! Having said that, about 80% of the guests at the hotel are Canadian-- so we actually appreciated it when locals came in :). In terms of food, we really had no complaints. There are different buffets for dinner every night, but you can also book in for an a la carte at the steak house, brazilian, and asian. The steak house and brazilian were fabulous. The buffet food was also excellent - one evening we were treated to lobster and shrimp which was amazing. There's always a good selection of different foods so you should have no problem finding something you like. I ate so much pineapple this holiday I think I almost turned into one. Also, I wouldn't worry about line ups for the buffet as it moves really fast and most of the time we just went there early and didn't have to wait at all. Overall, I had a fantastic vacation and want to thank all the staff who gave us such an amazing time!

I'll start by saying this is my first all inclusive hotel stay. My daughters (13 & 12) and I stayed for a week during their spring break. I travel quite a bit for work as well as for pleasure, so maybe I was expecting more from the food at the hotel. Breakfast was fine, lunch and dinner needed much improvement. We all eat most types of food, but there really was nothing "normal" at the buffets. So beware if you have a picky eater among you. We found that we ate a big breakfast, picked at lunch then at dinner we restaurant hopped and ordered Dominos in one night (Tuesday night is 2 for 1 night and they deliver). The Jungle restaurant at Paradise Plaza was very good for a quick $6 taxi ride. Service at the hotel was excellent, always courteous. Hotel was very clean. Liked that room refrigerator was stocked with Corona, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7up and bottled water. Whenever you stopped at the front desk to ask for directions to go to town, etc. they asked if you'd like a complimentary bottle of water for the trip. We always found a beach or pool chair, no lines at the bars. Nightly entertainment was a little cheesy, but hey what do you expect? I'd highly recommend taking a 45 minute walk North up the beach at/near lunch time and then relaxing at a beach cafe in Bucerias where you'll find 2 for 1 cocktails for $4.50 US or a bucket of 5 beers for $4.50 US. One thing we noticed was the lack of 12-15 year olds at the hotel. Quite a few younger children, and then those old enough to drink, but not much in between for my girls.

First time visiting this hotel and second time visiting the area. Flew with sunwing. On arrival check in was very fast! We were pleasantly surprised by our great family room that had the bunk bed around the corner in its own little L cove. Ocean view room, top floor and close to the lobby! The staff at this resort go above and beyond to help out and keep the grounds and building clean at all times. Drinks are great and no up charge for premium alcohol or champagne. Food is fresh and lots of variety. Good quality and lots of selection for all tastes! Smoothie bar at breakfast and cooking stations at all meals. Beach is beautiful! Soft sand goes on for miles. Water gets deep gradually so perfect for kids. No need for water shoes. They provide free boogie boards at the water center or can be purchased at the little hut close by! Adult and kids pools are a lot of fun! No problem finding chairs at the pools or the beach at anytime during the day. Entertainment staff are always keeping people busy! 4 + star for sure. Stayed at the hyatt ziva last trip and enjoyed this resort more. If trying to choose between the more expensive RIU Vallarta sister hotel choose the Jalisco. It is better in every way!! Cleaner, modern, nicer pool areas, friendlier staff, better food! We were able to purchase late check out and late transfer to the airport which was an added bonus! Only disappointment was that the kids club does not really have a schedule so hard to know when activities are happening. At 8pm everynight the kids have activities in the stage that they all seemed to enjoy! Sunwing reps especially Adrian was very helpful for all our excursion needs and are at the hotel from 9 to 4pm daily. We will definately return to this resort in the future.

The Riu Jalisco photographs well and has some beautiful architecture but caters primarily to European clientele. It is an open-air resort which means that there is NO air conditioning outside of your hotel room, not in the hallway, the lobby, the bar, NOWHERE! The food is great at breakfast, mediocre at lunch, and terrible at dinner although the Asian restaurant is wonderful. We arrived on the 22nd for a stay till the 26th and apparently we arrived during a "local special" low-season weekend. It was awful. There were tons of kids everywhere, no staff, the pool was filthy, the food was worse and lots of mexican families. Families are great, but not at a 21 and over vacation spot with no monitoring at the adult pool. This hotel and location is not the spot for the under 40 crowd but over 50 it is very laid back and relaxing. The scenery is beautiful, the temperature at that time of year was very humid and we were conned into going snorkling even though the rivers had flooded and the water was brown so you could not see any fish. Vallarta Adventures was expensive but AWESOME and Rythyms of the Night is AMAZING! When the local special was over on Monday, the hotel returned to normal and the service improved 150% and maid service perked up, etc...The entertainment provided by the hotel entertainment staff is subpar...and defintely not as good as some of the neighboring hotels. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have...just post me back!

You can do a Bed/room request 10 days out NOT before confirmation number required. If you paid for standard regular room you will get a low floor, Ocean view are not the best as the building is set back from the water. If you want quiet before 11 pm then request a room on the Far North side ,you can still get a view from 5,6 floor. If you don't mind the LOUD noise from entertainment outdoor stage then inside the courtyard 4,5,6 floor may give a far view. Info on FORUM for thing to do. Check the top of page also. Local bus to Puerto Vallarta on street cheap and fun to do. Lots of entertainment, all day and night, Disco also. Animation crew post the activities and night entertainment ,or just ask. You can click on my name ,reviews to read mine. Enjoy

yes there is live music most evenings. The rainy season ends in October, am here now and most of the rain has been in the late evening or during the night. It's very warm during the day, close to 40c. With tours I found the guys at the watersports centre near the beach to offer same as reps but cheaper and less hard sell and more honesty.

If you are there with the children customer services may be able to put you in touch with a vetted sitter, but they are expensive. I agree with Joleen on this trip I would leave the children with grandma. and have a second honeymoon.
