Hotel Riu Jalisco offers a beachfront location that is generally well-received for its atmosphere, although it's a bit removed from downtown. While the hotel provides an array of nightly entertainment suitable for families, opinions on value vary, with some guests deeming it affordable and others feeling it falls short. Service experiences are inconsistent, ranging from friendly to unresponsive. Amenities like the beach and pools are praised, yet some find the facilities outdated and overcrowded. The cleanliness is adequate, but room conditions and noise levels can be problematic for some visitors.

stayed here for 1 week end of January into Feb, property is beautiful, very clean around the resort. If they would put the effort into teaching the cooks not to cross contaminate as they teach the cleaning staff to scrub the sidewalks, then it would make it not to scary to eat! And the noise, it really is terrible, if you are going to feed people so much booze even when you can see they can barely stand up , at least hire some security to keep the quiet all night! not relaxing at all. And what is up with the Safes?? everyone you talk to has a problem or had a problem with theirs ? how hard is it you check the batteries once a month!

Here right now, all of the negative reviews are ludicrous. Free Wifi works everywhere right down on the beach, food is great, no reservations needed for ala cartes and nightly entertainment is really good. All the staff are very friendly, towels are all fine, place is spotless and beautiful. Only con could use some beach umbrellas. So don’t listen to the negative reviews some ppl are clearly absolutely impossible to please..like towels seriously lol, gets one bad towel and gets on here and complains, can hardly wait for pics.

For the last 10 years this has been our favorite resort, this is no longer the case. I do have to mention the positive before I write my report. The resort is impeccable clean, the rooms are basic but clean as everywhere else. I did find many problems this time, we were locked out of our room twice due to low battery power in keyless door. It took awhile to get fixed. Our refrigerator and hairdryer did not work due to the fact that the power source was turned off. I have to mention the really lumpy pillows and towels with holes. I was disappointed with the food in restaurants, every day the same spread, they used to have a carving station with good meat. Service from wait staff was slow, not many waiters. I asked to extend my check out and front desk supervisor gave me an attitude, my response was that I was locked out of my room for 2 hours, it would be a nice courtesy to allow me a late checkout, which she finally agreed to. Sorry to say but this is no longer our favorite resort.

The mini bar was not replenished routinely. When we requested replenishment from the front desk, the mini bar service person did not show up for several hours and only after we placed 3 calls to the desk. We were located near the pathway that the maintenance and service personnel use to deliver and return towels, food and beverages. The carts were continually going back and forth as early as 6:30 am and as late as 1:30 am. They were very noisy due to the vibrations of the wheels on the paving stone pathway. I would suggest that the carts used be fitted with rubber tires (air filled) to cut the noise. This was a significant barrier to getting some sound sleep.

First of all, this is the 20th trip to Mexico and the fourth RIU we have stayed at. Spend the extra and go to the Palace or one of the RIU’s in Cabo, but this hotel is dirty, not responsive to issues and the staff is not friendly.

Let’s start with the room. The fridge, safe and TV were all having issues and not working properly. Three nights into this stay and we still have no answers with the TV and the fridge is “simply defrosting”. However, not keeping anything cold. Beds were good and the AC works great and the safe allows us to use 1-6 for a code, 7-9 and 0 don’t work. However, it’s ok because we were still able to secure our items.

Next is the food. I would say the food overall was great. Something new and fresh for the most part. However, there was really no COVID distancing and people were allowed to sit very close to each other. The resort was pretty full with only one restaurant to accommodate all occupants for breakfast. Lunch and dinners didn’t seem to be an issue.

We had issues during check in, but that’s a whole other review for Travelocity, which is not good and I will never use them again. Book through any other site. I promise it will pay off later, especially if you have issues. Book-it and Expedia have been great in the past and really support the customer with issues at a resort. Not so much can be said for Travelocity.

This resort is great for kids with the water park and games. However, if you are looking for a resort to relax, this is not the place for you. Family vacation spot for sure, just know what your going to. Nothing bad, just not an adult hotel.

The grounds were very clean and maintained, but if you walked around the room without shoes on, your feet were almost black. Not sure what standards they are using to clean the rooms. Even to the point we had hand prints on the mirrors and metal head boards after “cleaning”.

We are currently at the resort, hopefully some of these issues will resolve, but really don’t see it getting any better. This will be the last time we come this resort for sure. I really think we will be hard pressed to book any other RIU resort again. There are simply too many other options out there.

Our family stayed here in February 2020 and enjoyed it very much. The food was good, service was excellent, and it was very clean.

We have a vegetarian and another with a dairy allergy and everyone had a great experience with the food. The hotel tries hard to advise diners of allergens at the buffets using little signs at each item, cross contamination is likely as other diners are not always careful but we had no issues.

The beach was beautiful, we saw humpback whales, dolphins and friendly pufferfish right from the beach.

The daily activities for the kids were enjoyed very much, lots of sports and pool games to keep them busy. Our kids are aged between 9 and 14.

My wife and I have only stayed at adults only Sandals resorts in the past and this was our first adventure with the kids. Reading reviews can be daunting as so many complain about things (for all resorts) and we planned to have lower expectations to avoid disappointment but honestly the standards at this place would compare well against the Sandals that we have been to.

We would love to return, and the kids are ready to move in forever....

Thanks to all the staff for the wonderful experience!

Very honest review as there are some great things about this resort, but also some not so great.
Pros: if you are going for the beach, it’s a 5-star! From the waves, to the sunsets, beach walks and beach massages. There is something for everyone in this beach. It’s why we keep coming back to PV.
Food: for being a value price family resort, the food here is always hot and fresh. Yes variety after 7 days can become a little monotonous, they don’t have the grand fruit statues or chocolate fountains. But the flavour and freshness of the food always out ranks the show. We’ve stayed at very high end resorts where variety is plenty but quality falls short, so food here is a big plus in my mind.
Pools: for the most part great, they do the job they are supposed to and the layout and shapes of the pool have a nice tropical vibe.
Cons: cleanliness in general. Being a bit of a neat freak I had to put my OCD on hold for the week to survive. Nothing here is clean really, the pool chairs and tables, the bathrooms, the rooms(don’t look under the bed), the floor throughout the resort. It’s all pretty dirty and needs some good scrubbing (preferably an update altogether). You can tell this resort is short staffed and not keeping up and in desperate need of an update. We spent some time at Riu vallarta next door, and yes, the updates are very nice, the food is more plentiful, but it was the cleanliness that got me. You could see staff walking around cleaning that resort constantly! Why are the standards not the same two doors down?
Rooms in this resort are tired dated dingy and not functioning like they did in their prime. The safe functioned half the time, the shower pressure was minimal, it smelled pretty musty. However Beds were more comfortable than the palace when I stayed there.
The entertainment was not great, the effort was there but the sound was so loud and poor quality it gave you a headache after a while. Shows were something we’ve seen a thousand times and nothing to write home about.
Service; don’t expect to get served at your pool chair, but when you do get in line for your drinks, the bartenders are always very nice and fair. Getting served at any of the restaurants was a hit or miss, but not a big deal, we would just get up to get our drinks.

Summarize: we didn’t pay a lot for this resort, food and beach were most important to us, and they both met our expectations.
We will try to stay at Riu Vallarta next time to ease my desire for cleanliness, but again, it didn’t ruin the vacation and maybe we can look forward to some updates at riu Jalisco in the future.

The resort is older, but very well kept. The vegetation is mature and beautiful. The beach is nice with lots of lounge chairs. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and restocked as needed. There was a nice selection of food to choose from, I especially liked not having to make reservations for the restaurants. The lobby bar could have used a few more bartenders before dinner hour, the line could get quite long. The saxophonist made up for the wait, he was excellent. The main stage entertainment was good, with the exception of the drunk spring breakers trying to sing karaoke with vulgar language while children were present. The entertainment staff should have stopped it and not allowed others in their group to continue. Prior guests have complained about the beds and pillows, mine were excellent. No problem sleeping in the bed at all. The door to your room is set back in a cove so it cuts down on the hall noise at night of people going by. My room 1146 was on the ground floor facing the main walkway. The opposite side of the building would have been much quieter. The RIU app comes in handy, but doesn’t say the location of events during the day. It also seemed like everything was going on at the same time. Aqua aerobics, bags, darts etcetera all at noon. There are masseuse’s on the beach left or right of the resort property in easy up tents charging $25 U.S. that I highly recommend. You are welcome to walk a short distance to enjoy the RIU Vallarta resort as well. The RIU palace will only allow you to tour the lobby. Overall the property was worth what I paid. It’s a 20 minute taxi ride for $21 U.S. to Puerto Vallarta airport, marina and shopping. I would stay here again.

1st stay at a Riu property. April 2022. This was about our 10th trip to PV. Overall this property was ok. The room was fine, cleaned daily and mini fridge and bar stocked regularily. The food was mediocre, lots of choices. We were told to stay away from the steakhouse from several guests, as it's not really a steakhouse, it's more like a skinny overcooked poor quality beef house, the only true ala carte was the Italian restaurant. Order from a menu, and regular ala carte style. It was alright. The asian is a buffet, not ala carte. All are various buffets, not ala carte restaurants. Because this place is so big and busy, they prepare most buffets well in advance to deal with the volume of guests, therefore, the food is rarely fresh, it has been sitting on a tray covered in plastic for maybe hours?, waiting to be served. The omelets are made fresh, the bacon is awful, overcooked jerky, hashbrowns are awful, sausages awful.....the fruit is awesome, juices are good, a large variety at breakfast of various foods, ya wont go hungry.
So in general, the food is borderline ok.
The drinks overall are good, draft beer is cold, decent selection of spirits, they have clamato juice here, and ginger ale as well.
The entertainment people work hard, and the evening shows are alright, we only saw bits and pieces. The lighting and sound, and production are all very good, they didn't cheap out on the equipment. I would suggest that they rotate there poolside playlist, unless you like "I wanna dance with somebody by Whitney Houston", played 3 or 4 times every morning, and 5 other songs from this genre over and over....come on guys, you can do better without much effort. (Thank goodness for ear buds).
The wifi is very good throughout the property.
One very BIG applause for all of the staff, housekeeping, restaurant and bar staff, front desk, bell boys, they all do a great job and only have certain tools to work with, but do a good job.
I'm not sure if we would go back, too many kids, most were well behaved, food was ok, oh!...not many smokers here which was nice. Ya hardly smelled the stench of cigarettes.
We have had better stays in Puerto Vallarta.

Once again a wonderful time at the Riu Jalisco. 10 days of staff working so hard to ensure all were enjoying their stay. The front Desk staff were very friendly, organize and attentive to the multitude of guests arriving. They were able to place us in room 4193 as we had been in this room before. Close to a stairwell which traffic noise was not an issue and brings you out closest to the entertainment area and beach. The staff in all of the restaurants were very friendly attentive and of great assistance. Frida, Claudia and Yalma were 3 of the ladies whom I had the pleasure of being one of their guests. They picked up on my habits and had my juice waiting for me when I would return to my table. Angelica and and other housekeeping staff ensured the room was spotless everyday and we would find "towel animals" waiting for us on our return. A very nice touch. The bartenders were very busy but always made sure your glass was full as soon as possible.
We dined in the Main Buffet which has a great selection of hot and cold foods. We enjoyed a great Steak Dinner at the Steak House, a meal of assortment of cuisine at the Asian restaurant.
The beef at the Italian restaurant was so tender and delicious as well as the selection at the restaurant across from the main buffet. Nice lounging areas around the pool and down on the beach with a nice assortment of shade to sunny spots. Great swimming and sandy beaches. The evening entertainment was great for the little ones as well as a variety of shows afterwards for all. We are so looking forward to our next visit in the new year.

Unlimited al la carte, first come first served, Yes sister hotels, so you can visit each other, just not for breakfast or dinners. Not allowed at Riu Palace Pacifico at all. Side of building habe quieter rooms, north side best, but there can still be loud guest, like all resorts. Rius are good VALUE , no room service, Palace has that, but younget in room free bar, beer, pop, water in fridge, free safe.
