Dirty and dated

Reviewed 1 week ago
I booked this hotel with a travel agent because my party had 44 people. I went for my 50th. I chose this place for a few reasons. 1, being reasonably priced and 2nd it appeared to be kid friendly. We had a few kids travel ages 4 months-15 yerras old. The check in and out process was easy.

The good: The staff were very friendly. The beach was easily accessible from walking out the resort. The sand was soft, the ocean temperature was perfect and the water was not very deep. Right on the beach you can also get snacks and an inexpensive massages that are not part of the resort.

The bad: the hotel is pretty dirty and very outdated. My room floors were never cleaned properly. Someone in my party said they didn’t even bother to clean her room two days in a row. She had to call for fresh towels.

The food was a 3 out of 10 with the exception of one restaurant, The Steakhouse.
The night we ate st their Asian inspired restaurant a few people had stomach issues that lasted a day or so. There is no room service. They had a 24 hour place, they offer cold hamburgers and hotdogs. You heat them up yourself in the microwave. I took 2 bites of that burger then spit it out.

The pool always felt dirty. Like constant sand at the bottom. Water was cloudy. Trash not being picked up often. The longe chairs were never wiped down. Another reason I chose this place was the swim up bar. I get it, the liquor they use is cheap and possibly watered down. That’s all resorts at this price range. This resort was no exception. I am not a big drinker and it took me a lot to catch a buzz. The music at the pool was horrible. Most places play modern pop music with a mix of Latin. I could not even tell you what this resort was playing. We took our own speaker but they kept telling us to turn it off or down.

I’ve stayed at one of The Riu’s in Cabo and it was much nicer than this. My friends, spouse and I stay at all inclusive resorts quite a bit. I feel like I have enough knowledge to compare. For a few people this was their first time ever staying at a resort. I apologized a few times. They were shocked when I told them that other resorts I’ve visited were not like this. Meaning other resorts are a lot nicer. They had nothing to compare to so they didn’t know the difference.

2 stars for the hospitality and the steakhouse.
The hotel did its job, it gave us shelter, showers and food. If you are an avid resort traveler and enjoy nice, clean resorts, with decent food, this place is not for you. I will ever recommend it & absolutely will never stay here again.

GOOD
- quick, easy check in and check out
- lots of chairs by the pool and shaded areas
- excellent food
- top-notch entertainment (esp. evenings)
- big resort, but easy to get around
- nice lobby for visiting
- easy to get drinks, lots of bars
- feels very safe
- 24-hour cafe/bar
- very beautiful building and landscaping; lush greenery
- massages on beach
- excellent restaurants; no reservations needed
- excellent staff. Very friendly and helpful service.
- they treat children really well
- ice cream and cones readily available
- burger and fries near poolside
- beautiful beach for walking; big waves for swimming and boogie boarding
- safe for walking off-resort
- drinks are good
- overall, a really good vibe
- family-friendly atmosphere, with kids pool. Always pretty lively (which might be a draw back for some)

DRAWBACKS
- no pool-side wait service
- rooms and lobby are dated (Renos starting later in 2024?)
- no teen club or rec room
- must be 18 years old to access gym; gym small
- crazy expensive gift shop ($50 Canadian for sunscreen)
- too few washrooms throughout the resort
- smoking section near pool with smell of smoke throughout the day
- towel cards, which are stressful to keep track of
- expensive trip, overall. We’ve spent about the same for higher-end resorts (but, the experience was still positive)

Overall, we had a wonderful week at this resort. There were 39 people in our party ranging from 3 - 55+ years old and everyone had a good time. Even during Easter weekend it didn’t feel too crowded. Seems to have been lots of return visitors.

There's 2 parts of this. First, the hotel itself is really nice, great location, Beach is gorgeous and the food is excellent. Such a huge variety of just about anything, with lots of quite gourmet options (tuna steak, yum). The 2nd part is the crowd this hotel attracts, which is the party crowd. There is so much booze available in the room, which gets refilled constantly and at the bars. At night it was mostly very loud karaoke until 11pm and then they move inside the disco club, but you still hear the music loudly until 2am. Then you have all the drunks screaming outside until early in the morning. I would have give it 5* but the crowd ruins it so only 3*.
PS: get a room with a view to the outside of the hotel if you want to get some sleep. And contact front desk if your neighbors are partying in their room or smoking on the balcony, they react quickly and shut them down right away.

Well, this is the hardest review I have had to write. Staff are genuine and caring but they have no capability to do anything about this dilapidated hotel. The food is disgusting. The rooms are filthy. Maintenance doesn't ever show up. Over all I'd rather stay home than return here

Room tip: Spend the extra and stay at either the Riu Vallarta or Riu Palace
