Hotel Riu Jalisco offers a beachfront location that is generally well-received for its atmosphere, although it's a bit removed from downtown. While the hotel provides an array of nightly entertainment suitable for families, opinions on value vary, with some guests deeming it affordable and others feeling it falls short. Service experiences are inconsistent, ranging from friendly to unresponsive. Amenities like the beach and pools are praised, yet some find the facilities outdated and overcrowded. The cleanliness is adequate, but room conditions and noise levels can be problematic for some visitors.

Very nice resort. excellent food, very clean, constantly sanitizing. This resort is very accommodating. We requested a ground floor room which we got no problem. Friends of ours decided to move closer to us and it was no problem either. We found the food at all restaurants to be excellent. What I found different about this resort was that for the a la carte's, there was outdoor seating and you could go into any a la carte, fill your plate and bring it back to your outdoor table. Every restaurant had the thermometer to measure your temp before entering, sanitizer was available everywhere.
Beach was excellent, lots of chairs available. Outdoor beach bar was excellent, if you didn't wear your mask you were turned away. There was no beach service that we noticed, we always had to go up and get our drinks but that's OK. There was never really a lineup.
I felt very safe covid wise there. You could walk 2 doors down over the the Rui Vallarta and have lunch. (It was full of 20 yr olds - no one wearing masks at that resort.) we preferred to stay at the Jalisco. Staff were friendly and accommodating always. The covid testing went smoothly although they have everyone booked for 2 pm, which meant a huge lineup... they could have done that differently, but it had nothing to do with the hotel. We had plenty of water and beer and pop in our room all the time, we never had to ask for anything, which seems to be standard with the Riu's. The purple color in the lobby seems a bit outdated, but whatever. The sports bar was fabulous for cappuccino in the morning with Baileys, and snacks on hand at all times. Food was excellent, always something for everyone, a lot of variety. The only annoying thing about this resort (and maybe it was just a one off) was that when we played cards every night in the lobby, the locals would come in and play their music super loud, we had to move a couple of times. It wasn't very pleasant and they were not advised to be a little quieter. Nothing against music, just crazy loud.
A nice 45 minute walk to bucerias for shopping and pubs. Very cheap taxi ride there as well.
All in all I would recommend this resort.

This was our first stay at the RIU Jalisco having stayed previously at another RIU hotel nearby. We took a two week break to see in the new year there.
Our room was on the first floor, was comfortable and facing north towards a side road and a taxis rank. The view was towards the nearby hills. The only downside about the room was that it didn't have any coffee making facilities.Fortunately,we took a travel kettle plus the sports bar wasn't far away for getting coffee 24/7.
As usual with a RIU hotel the buffet restaurants served a wide choice of excellent, international dishes. For some reason, the 'La Piazza' restaurant served 'burnt' instant coffee.A pity really because the restaurant is opposite one of the main bars and also the entertainment area. So,if you want to have a coffee with your brandy whilst watching the show, forget it!
Entertainment five nights of the week was excellent, particularly,'The Tenors' and 'The White show' both need commending. The only two poor nights were the 'Circus show' and 'Michael Jackson' show. The moon walk was more like a backward shuffle and the 'Thriller' part was over before it started! All you can say is that the resident stage dancers are superb. The best I've seen at a resort's hotel.
New year's eve was brilliant, the 'Don Emiliano' restaurant, the entertainment and the bar service couldn't be beaten.
The beach is easily accessed from the hotel as is the beach restaurant and bar.Unfortunately, there were a lot of 'Jed Clampett's relations staying there during the first week of our stay. They would come down to the beach before 09.30,claim a long row of beach beds, put them into a lager, drop a flip flop on each bed and then clear off until after midday. They would then come back and play loud music(country & western or heavy rock) for the remainder of the afternoon whilst they necked drinks.
The highlight of the holiday was seeing baby turtles hatch out onto the beach!Wow!
Service by all the staff was excellent, couldn't fault it.Particularly our room maid.
I'm not sure how good the maintenance staff of the hotel are because the day we arrived,a fire alarm was damaged and left hanging off the wall(outside room 2119)!After 10 days,I reported it and it was screwed back into the wall on the 11th day of our stay!

We have stayed at numerous RIU resorts and this was by far the worst experience!!!
The pool stayed disgusting I'm pretty sure it was never cleaned the whole time we were there. There was large clumps of hair in the floor drains, when someone removed they just left it on the side of the pool and that happened multiple days. bugs and debris littered the pool, was very gross! Pool light had fell out of the wall and was just laying on the pool floor with wires exposed. Swim up bar was almost impossible to use due to children sitting at the bar along with their parents when signs clearly state the stools by order of the government are not to be used. When you did get a drink it was so watered down you would have to order shots to pour into it to make it have anything in it.

Also the service was horrible. some meals our group of 6 could eat together and the next meal at the same location we were instructed that was against policy. We would have to waive waiters down to get service. Almost felt like we were ignored due to being Americans, talking with other guest they felt the same way.

The food was utterly disgusting, most of it was undercooked or overcooked and just plain bland.

This was a lesson learned, you get what you pay for. This was our second vacation to an RIU this year and probably 7th stay total, but it will be our last!!!

A lovely hotel , very clean and staff very friendly. On our arrival was changed rooms before booking in. The receptionist noticed as we left the coach that we had the use of a wheelchair but that no disabled room had been booked for us, he quickly remedied this for us.
Not enough lifts for the amount of people on site. Good variety of food but noticed that’ the a la carte restaurants had the same menu for the 2week we were there. But you could use these as many times as you wanted during your stay so very repetitive.
Stayed Christmas and new year and the entertainment was first class both at night and during the day. A lot of hard work had been put into this but they pulled it off because it was brilliant.
Don’t think the hotel is disabled friendly in some ways. You cannot get to either of the RIU hotels on either side. The only way you can access these are via the beach which has no boardwalk or pavement so this makes access virtually impossible by wheelchairs. I have muscles but was not tempted to try.
Overall we found the holiday and the hotel enjoyable despite a few inconvenience of a few things. We had gone for a change of scene and a rest which is what we achieved so a huge thank you to all staff at the hotel who gave us a Christmas and new year.memories we won’t forget

This is the third Riu resort we have stayed at having stayed at Riu Ocho Rios in Jamaica 12 years ago and Riu Dunamar last year. I read the reviews prior to our vacation here and came in with low expectations knowing that it was an older resort.
Well I have been blown away by the value we have received and I might say this is our favourite resort yet!! We booked a family room which is such a lovely option when travelling with kids. The family room here is a fantastic set up with the kids getting their own bedroom, two spacious bathrooms, a small living room and the master bedroom.
The hotel is starting to show age in that the floors are getting marked up but everything is clean and kept up as well as possible. I would imagine the Riu chain will start looking at renovations and updates soon.

The food has been the best of any resort we have been to! Tuna steaks at the buffet may be the best thing I’ve ever tasted and the guacamole is delicious!

Entertainment at night has been top notch.

Pools are great and the beach is so lovely. You can walk in the shallow waves for miles.

Great selection of drinks at all bars and service always efficient and friendly.

Service everywhere has been very good except for a few times eating at the buffets for breakfast they seem short staffed, have had to get our own cutlery and coffee etc.

Three of the four water slides into the kids pool are taped off because the concrete has been chipped away. So a few things could use repairs for sure.

We feel overall though this resort gave us the best bang for our buck of any we have been to and we would gladly return!
Really appreciate all the hard working staff who make this resort great!

Went for a week in January flew with Sunwing. We chose this resort and trip as it was of great value. Check in was no problem at all, we arrived early the rooms were not ready that was expected. By 2:00 pm our room was ready. As many have said before me the rooms and entire resort is very clean. The air conditioner didn't work that great but we didn't complain it was good enough. We got a king bed and it was comfortable.

The food was real good. Some buffet nights are actually better than the Ala cartes. Breakfast was very good eggs made to order and never ran out of anything. Good burgers near the beach as well for lunch.

Good service at the bars always friendly. Cold beer and other drinks just okay. The pool was pretty clean. The towel game is on but there is always somewhere to sit regardless when you show up during the day.

This I would consider a bit of a party place. Lots of yelling and talking in the halls all hours of the night. If you wish for a nice restful sleep perhaps look elsewhere. Pretty loud music at the swim up bar but my kind of music mostly, (classic rock) so that was good.

Well run resort if you can handle a bit of noise you can't lose coming here for the right price.

My wife and I had an enjoyable week-long stay at the Riu Jalisco in late January 2020. We had been there 10 years earlier too. All in all, we very much enjoyed our time at this all-inclusive resort. The staff are to be commended for their friendly and welcoming nature, and their attentiveness to their work. Our room maid did an excellent job of keeping our room clean, towels refreshed as needed, and bed very nicely made up. The meal staff were the same. There are five restaurants, although we mostly ate at the buffet Don Emiliano. The selection is large, the food is always being replenished, and it was just simpler for us. I like Mexican food, and my wife was quite fine given all the choices. Beef steak is not a forte in Mexico (our experience), but all other meat/fish dishes were excellent. The drinks were mostly quite good and there was certainly plenty. We enjoyed the beach, and although busy we always managed to find a lounge chair. The water is a bit turbid because of the breaking waves, but it’s just sand! The two pools were nicely maintained. There was always some form of nightly entertainment, some of which we took in. That was about the only time we noticed a bit of irritating smoking. We also had a massage on the beach near to the resort; a nice treat at a very reasonable price. About a 50-minute walk away along the beach is Bucerias, which provided a nice break from the resort. One thing to be aware of are the very firm beds! And a king size is really two small doubles, at least in our case.

We tried booking the hotel online six days in advance but they would only let you book 7 days in advance. I emailed several times telling them I need a room a day earlier to no avail. When I arrived a day early and told them about the emails and there was nothing they could do and they couldn't charge me the same price as my booking price and charge me $300 for one night. I had an 11 day booking with them and they couldn't match the same price. They say I booked through the booking centre and I could call them if I want but I asked them to call and they didn't want to, so I just paid and let it go. They have no control to change or do anything at the front desk as they are all just employees and no managers . Now other than that the rooms are good, pool is nice, beach is good and food is excellent . They don't have drink service at the pool or beach, no room service, no coffee maker in the room. Over all we enjoyed out stay other than the front desk episode.
PS. I almost forgot, they called me up and said I have to pay for the bed because we peed on it, we laughed a lot about it and got a manager up there and we found mould on the mattress and showed them we never peed the bed. They apologized and brought us a brand new bed for free lol.

We stayed at the Riu Jalisco from February 7-16,2020. The beach, pool and food were great. The service was terrible. They no longer provide service by the pool or at the beach. Not that it killed us to get up and walk but then you were waiting in line for a long time. The service at the buffet was also terrible. Very difficult to get water, drinks, etc, if you got served at all. It appeared that they were very short staffed. There were 2 Riu’s on either side of our hotel and people would come to the Jalisco for venues but there was never extra staff, or it didn’t appear that way. The rooms were ok but definitely due for an update. We had to complain about the sewer smell in our room and the same smell was throughout much of the resort, especially the ladies bathroom in the lobby, it was horrible. Our friends had issues with the air conditioning in their room that was never fixed. We also complained about the sheets on our bed. They seemed very dirty but after they were changed it was clear that they all looked dirty, again, time for an update. They were always short on beach towels and wouldn’t let you exchange a wet towel for a dry one. We have stayed at a few Riu’s and have never been disappointed like this. We have always considered this line of hotels as “upper class” but not this time. We feel that we paid extra for the “extras” that the Riu usually offers and it was not cheap.

Food: It was hit or miss. Never got a good piece of bacon. The steak at the steak place was good one night, and like an old shoe the next. Buffets were okay (not great). If you have been to a cheap Vegas buffet, it's like that. Drinks: WATERED DOWN!! Even name brand spirits (like Bacardi) in a cocktail. The draft beer at the bars has very little flavour. Even the "mini bar" bottles in the rooms tasted off so I avoided those. The Jimador shots and Johnny Walker Red at the bar were better, the wine served in restaurants was cheap but ok as was the canned beer.
Rooms: Pretty clean. If you are super picky you may not be happy. There was dust behind the T.V. and the end tables but in general nothing gross. Beds are NOT comfortable, pillows are NOT comfortable. If your back is not 100% perfect you will probably suffer every morning like I did. There is only one set of elevators to the floors. If you are close to the elevator a short walk to your room but more noise. Entertainment: During the day games and sport things. Different themed activities every night. Starts off with stuff for kids then usually music/dancing kind of stuff. The live band they have was quite good and played a variety of music and usually shut it down between 11:30-midnight. The workers there help get and keep the energy up. Tried to go to the discotheque one night but the smell in there was FOUL. Smelled like a million sweaty stinky feet. Finally they shut the doors and closed it down.
