Well, this is the hardest review I have had to write. Staff are genuine and caring but they have no capability to do anything about this dilapidated hotel. The food is disgusting. The rooms are filthy. Maintenance doesn't ever show up. Over all I'd rather stay home than return here

I just returned from a 10-night stay at the RIU Jalisco and, in general, enjoyed my stay.

Positive items:
- Overall cleanliness
- Courteous, friendly, helpfull staff
- Decent entertainment (I stayed at 5 different RIU resorts, some of the shows are the
same, that gets boring)
- Good buffet food (I did not try the other restaurants), with the occasional item
being over/under cooked)
- Excellent service at the buffet restaurant and bars

Negative items:
- Outdated rooms, desperately in need of renovation
- A/C barely able to cool the room to an acceptable temperature
- My room smelled of mold, very unpleasent

Overall, a positive experience, but certainly not a 5-star resort.
I would return, but only after a general renovation has taken place.

Dear Jens R.,

Thank you very much for choosing Riu and for your positive remarks.

As we strongly believe that guests come first, we regret to find that there were some aspects that overshadowed your experience.

Humidity is something very typical of a tropical climate and our internal system is created to mitigate this. It is a shame that, in spite of our efforts, we failed to live up to your expectations and could not remedy this situation.

We have passed your concerns to the management department for an appropriate follow up and we sincerely hope you will give us another chance to welcome you again and share a more pleasant experience.

Best Regards,

Hotel Riu Jalisco

I’ve never done an all inclusive before but from what I’ve heard, so much food, everything at your finger tips, etc. this was a far cry from that. The only place you could eat was a crappy buffet unless you want to wait hours for a sit down which I’m not even sure was sit down. Also there is a lot of times when no buffet is open. Also not only is there no food and drink service at the pool you are actually not allowed to eat by the pool. The sister property next door is nicer so go to their pool (but still no food or drink service). They water everything down, not just the drinks. The nacho cheese even tastes like water 🤣. The website says water sports are included, and vegan food. I saw none of this.

We were at the property for seven nights, it was very pleasant. The staff was attentive, the room was good. The first night we were in a ground floor room and there was a rather large cockroach in the room, which freaked us out. We asked to be moved and the staff responded by moving us to another room on the third floor immediately. The food was ok, with the Italian themed the best. The entertainment was good with something interesting every evening.

Stay was great again. 2nd time at this resort. It’s a fun and reliable 4*. Food is good, with the rare exception of empty and/or old food being out. Service is good but not exceptional, mainly clean, and no surprises. Price is exceptional for what you experience here.

Disappointing Sports Bar as little to no choice on what’s playing, when the same chain hotel 2 doors down has options. Food in the Sports Bar was mainly old and dried out. The Sports Bar was empty most of the time because of this. Way under-utilized space in this resort.

Some furniture around the resort is getting to be a bit limited as various bars have few to no bar stools anymore. Rooms and dining areas are still in good shape even though hotel is likely getting a bit older.

A la cart restaurants are mainly smorgasbord style now and so it beats the purpose of what a la cart is intended to provide.

Drinks were good and bartending was pretty fast. Pretty good at not over pouring which is important when liquor is constantly flowing.

Lifeguard lead staff person was incredible. He was exceptional at deescalation when needed for guests who were over drinking and/or wanting to fight. This happened a few times when we were there, which is typical for some guests who over drink. The staff here did an amazing job of keeping an eye on this and helping those who needed to go back to their rooms. I’ve been at other hotels where the staff couldn’t care less. That’s not the case here.

Overall solid but could use a few reno’s, improved furnishings around the bars. As mentioned, for the price it was exceptionally fun and solid. Pool chairs available everyday and a great place to holiday.
