Hotel Riu Jalisco offers a beachfront location that is generally well-received for its atmosphere, although it's a bit removed from downtown. While the hotel provides an array of nightly entertainment suitable for families, opinions on value vary, with some guests deeming it affordable and others feeling it falls short. Service experiences are inconsistent, ranging from friendly to unresponsive. Amenities like the beach and pools are praised, yet some find the facilities outdated and overcrowded. The cleanliness is adequate, but room conditions and noise levels can be problematic for some visitors.

We stayed here with our 3 kids ages 7-11 in February 2020. There are 2 good size pools-1 of them with a slide, and a smaller splash area with a pirate ship and some small slides. We mostly stuck to the pool with the slides and avoided the one with the swim up bar and it was great. We did head over there for the foam party and the kids loved it. The pool was never too crowded and we were always able to find loungers at both the pool and the beach, even when we slept in and didn’t get there early. The nightly entertainment was enjoyable and family friendly. There were lots of options at the restaurants and my picky eater was always able to find something, and the rest of us enjoyed the variety. Between the pools, beach, and games to play onsite, our kids were never bored. The staff was very friendly and our room was always spotlessly cleaned and fridge stocked well. There is a market about 10 minutes away by cab ride that was good for some
Shopping, and we also took a cab into Puerto Vallarta one evening for shopping and walking around. I’d recommend both. I also absolutely love the grounds at the Jalisco. We also visited the RIU Vallarta and while its been beautifully renovated, it’s more modern and pristine and I just didn’t like it nearly as much as Jalisco. We would definitely stay here again.

We returned to Riu Jalisco in February because we really liked this resort. This year we brought 14 friends and family with us. Loved the beach and the fact there was plenty of shade and no rush for chairs. The food was fine and all service was great.
We visited here last year and unfortunately at the start of our vacation I badly broke the femur in my leg when I missed the bottom step on the staircase down into the lobby. Both the resort and Sunwing were super helpful in helping us access medical care and making arrangements to get us home. The biggest disappointment this year was nothing has been done to the step to make it more visible. Last year when we returned to the resort after surgery and 4 days in the hospital we witnessed a lady crash off this step and were then informed from friends that there had been others.
This year during our stay 2 from our group missed the step with one spraining her ankle and we helped one other lady up after she Missed the step. We also met 2 other people who missed the step 1 of these people badly sprained her ankle. This is just people we witnessed or spoke with so I am sure there are many many more. RIU there must be some way to make this step more visible maybe use some bright purple tiles, as well as extending the handrail to the floor.
I did speak with customer service twice while we were there just bringing the step to their attention. They seemed to know there was a real issue with the step but did not know if it was fixable. I just really hope no one else breaks any bones because of this step.
I must add again this year we had great service. Our group requested rooms on a higher floor but for us it was not a great fit as we were a long way from the elevator, I still use a cane and 4 flights of stairs for me and my leg was not going to work. As quickly as was possible they relocated us to the ground floor as close to the beach as possible. They also located our daughter close to us when she arrived for our 2nd week. We really appreciate that. Hopefully we visit this resort again and something has been done with that step. It really is a nice resort.

I chose this place from red tag based on the amenities & what it said was included wasn't. The site has not been updated. You also can’t contact red tag from Mexico. The public bathrooms always stunk cause no exhaust. We had to repeatedly ask for a 3rd wash cloth in our room since there was 3 of us. The bathrooms have no privacy to get in to the shower, it’s wide open. The shower door is of tinted glass but you can still see through. There’s no private part of the beach so you are constantly being harassed to buy stuff. The food wasn’t very good. The bars on the pool decks didn’t have blenders. The hotel was not very clean and our sheets were never changed. I would never stay there again.

Went for a wedding Was very surprised with lack of things working. Air was program to a certain coldness it felt moist every day in the room. Ice machine in all floors not working. Asked for a king bed they gave me 3 beds. Restaurants closed at 10:30 pm if you didn’t eat you really didn’t have where to eat. Sports bar would have the stale nachos and burgers to put in microwave. Tasted bad. All the outdoor bars closed at 12:00 but no music can be played after 11:00 pm. You can’t eat anywhere around the pool even if they have tables around the pool area. Beach area to where the rooms are is very far to walk. As you can see I was not happy..

Great staff, engaging entertainment team, clean beach and on par with other Riu's I've been to.

Special shoutout to Arturo in food and beverage as well as Sara, Luis and Bruno on the entertainment team!

Resort is about 30-40 mins from the airport and 1 hour drive to downtown Puerto Vallarta. We took an Uber to get to and from the downtown - it was safe and cost about $300 pesos to be dropped off in the middle of the downtown area.

Nightly entertainment was a hit and miss. The kids show started at 8pm followed by the speciality show at 9pm. The nightclub would open at 11pm, which left you waiting an hour between the end of show and club opening. The night club Pacha needs some serious renovations.. the smell was horrific. We would laugh at the many people who would enter the club and leave immediately due to the smell. The main big event this resort has is called the White Party which happens on Fridays. Unfortunately our flight got in late on Friday and left before the night began the week after but it looked like a good time from the videos displayed.

Beach is nice and clean. Many vendors walk around trying to sell you stuff. Not necessary to wake up early to reserve beach or pool chairs as there was plenty. To my surprise, there was no mosquitoes, not even at night! I didn't get a single insect bite and I am known to lather on the bug repellent.

The main buffet was most of the time better than the speciality restaurants. No reservations for restaurants was required, all was first come, first serve. With exception of the steakhouse, the other restaurants were buffet style which was surprising for me. The Steakhouse was delicious and the Italian served a big piece of delicious salmon. I hope they put more money into improving their a la carte restaurants.

Rooms were adequate and clean.

Overall good experience!

4 of us stayed Jan.3-Jan 10 2020.Over all, a nice resort. Pools and rooms were clean, food was at par with most other resorts we have stayed at in Mexico. Lots of food to choose from. Entertainment was good, and staff were friendly. Very fast check in. The entertainment is quite loud if you are in your room, as hotel is not very sound proof at all. But just wear earplugs if you want to go to bed before 11pm. I am jealous of all the people that have the energy to stay up and enjoy the entertainment. Wine ( our main cocktail) was not very good in the hotel lounge, but made up for it in all the restaurants, where a much better quality was served. Half hour walk to town of Bucerias. Wifi, Big plus!!!. We have cameras at home for security, and were able to access a fast wifi everywhere in the resort in order to check our house, or send texts or pictures using wifi with whatsap. All in all, a good experience.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this resort from February 21-28. We got there on a Friday and there was a Riu White Party, which was pretty awesome. The Friday we left there was a neon Riu Party, so take some white and neon. We booked through Sunwing and the reps were very helpful and easy to find when we wanted to book our transport to the airport and our excursions. They also did orientation on the bus to the hotel, which is GREAT so you don't waste a morning of your vacation going to a boring orientation.

Pros: Great food (I think there would also be enough for a vegetarian), friendly hotel staff, great restaurant staff, great entertainment staff, location, beach, local vendors at the beach. I think some people aren't a fan of this but if you don't plan to leave the resort it's a great way to buy some souvenirs and snacks! There was also free access to water sports [kayaks, boogie boards (sp?), and mini catamaran type of thing]. They also had entertainment almost every night and activities during the day. We went on two excursions (Sunwing had a deal where if you bought one excursion you got the Amazing Vallarta Tour for $6). We did the Rhythms of the Night, which is expensive but WELL worth it.

Cons: The late night snacks, you might not care about this if you don't plan to eat after 10 pm but if you do. . . They have a fridge with cold pre-cooked hamburgers and hot dogs that you can warm up on a panini press or microwave. I've been to other places that served fresh comfort food at their snack bar so this was disappointing. But it's not the biggest deal, we ate there once after the White Party and that was it. The other thing would be the wafts of sewer smell that would come from the shower. Lastly, the damn pillows. . . not comfy :/ someone else mentioned this in their review as well, agreed girl, agreed.

Other than those few things this place was pretty great. Would I go back to this same place like those that return over and over? Probably not, too many places to see ;)

+1
All these people great service, and all these people are wonderful.
Front desk people not so friendly, no eye contact or smile on several occasions. Info people beside the front desk very friendly and helpful. Bar staff, great service, but need better brands of alcohol. And more real fruit juices not water down concentrates. Food was amazing hands down the best food and well cooked food I have had at a resort yet, but did run out of a few things often. Vegetable were cooked perfect, not mushy. Too many people saving loungers and not coming till end of the day or late afternoon. Sun was hot, except two days in two weeks it rained. During that time there was no entertainment but black jack. And nothing on the premises to do, but watch tv, or drink. We were so looking forwards to the entertainment, but we were very disappointedly with the dancing, and theatre put on. We think it could have been way better, if the dancers and performers had time to practice and perfect the dances, too out of time and not enough performers. It’s sad because you could see the performers had dance moves and could really dance. But they seemed to be overworked and not enough staff, the bars staff and waitresses, waiters etc, understaffed also.
Plus the first place we have ever gone to without bar maids or servers. around the premises. We are not lazy people, but enjoy the staff and like having fun with them, joking around etc.
The rooms were clean and small, but comfortable, bed were also clean and very comfortable. The rooms were well appointed. hot water lots and water pressure was Awsome. the line ups for drinks, frustrating. 🤔.
All in all, a nice holiday, and great staff, but we would not go back because of the lack of entertainment, activities to do on the resort, and drinks, mix etc.

Picked this location for a family vacation, unfortunately there are some significant issues here.

Approximately half of the rooms face the courtyard which is beautiful to see but all the evening entertainment originates from there including the late night disco. Bopping music can be clearly heard in the rooms as late as 2am. This is followed by the drunken loud behaviour of patrons yelling and screaming. If that’s not bad enough you’ll experience everything going on in the rooms adjacent. Because the hotel is often sold out as it was then, we were unable to switch rooms.

With the lack of sleep you’d at least like to enjoy the pools during the day. However if you dropped an ice cube into either of the pools it would not melt. Both swimming pools were freezing cold. I would watch person after person take one step say “it’s freezing” and head back out.

If your looking for a party hotel and don’t care about cold pools you’ll love this place. Food, bars and the beach are fine.

I just wish Riu Corp would not have falsely advertised this as a family friendly hotel.

I'm on my second last day here with the family. Let me start with the positives... The place is clean the staff are friendly and the food is hot and pretty good (read ok, not outstanding). All in all a pretty good bang for your buck. Anything I have to complain about really is me being picky and first world problems, so if you're going to point that out, I'm aware. Now the cons...there is no bathroom door. We booked a family room with three beds as we are travelling with 2 teens. There's a door on the toilet area but it is a very small space. Meaning no privacy for changing and the full length mirror in the bedroom catches the reflection from the bathroom, so no privacy at all. Also, because we are travelling during Covid19 they are starting to shut things down and not offer certain things. I get this, but when I ask for a late check out they want to charge me $1,000 pesos even though, let's face it, there are no incoming guests. So if you are going to lessen the amenities offered when I paid full price, the least you could do is offer me free late check out (I mean it's a matter of a few hours). I wouldn't be leaving with sour taste in my mouth and could rave about how accommodating this resort was.
