Hotel Riu Jalisco offers a beachfront location that is generally well-received for its atmosphere, although it's a bit removed from downtown. While the hotel provides an array of nightly entertainment suitable for families, opinions on value vary, with some guests deeming it affordable and others feeling it falls short. Service experiences are inconsistent, ranging from friendly to unresponsive. Amenities like the beach and pools are praised, yet some find the facilities outdated and overcrowded. The cleanliness is adequate, but room conditions and noise levels can be problematic for some visitors.

Loved the resort, excellent food, staff always friendly. Since covid everything is digital now so you download Riu on your phone and see restaurants, activities, etc and can send service as well. Love that the water was filtered throughout so can have ice cubes and water. It was very hot when we were there, 33C and humid. The night shows were good.
Bonus is not having to prebook for restaurants but to show up and we always got a table. The steak house, excellent steaks and ribs and located in front of the beach so very nice to see.
The international buffet restaurant always plentiful of variety of food.
Couple of things - their pillows were very lumpy, so made it hard to sleep. They should change those up. The beds were very comfortable tho.
The room sheet said every 2nd day, the bar will be replenished but it didn't happen automatically. We had to call front desk a couple of times. They should have it restocked as per their sheet.

When it rains (which wasn't alot), puddles form inside the building as its open. I slipped as I didn't see the puddle and fell hard on my bad knee onto the tile. It hurt alot and as we were on the 3rd floor, climbing up and down the stairs, hurt. I was careful after that looking for puddles. I wear a knee brace because of my knee and hotel was notified at booking. We were put into 3rd floor, next time I will ask for 2nd floor as climbing up and down every day a few times a day was alot.

We felt very safe- took the uber to PV and spent the day there. Another day we took uber to Bucerias for a couple of hours. We could have walked the beach there but it was hot and humid plus my knee was still hurting from the fall.

I would come back to this resort again. Really loved it. Thank you Riu Jalisco....and always nice to see upper management walking around and inspecting things.

I think one reviewer said it best when they said staying at Riu Jalisco was like vacationing with the People of Walmart. The hotel itself is lovely, and the housekeeping services were excellent. The food was good and the bedrooms were always clean and cool. The staff tried their hardest to keep up with the mass amounts of people who flood in and out every day on buses. Which by the way, Riu Jalisco is the only hotel on that strip that has large charter buses of people arriving and departing everyday. I assume that the hotel must offer a great deal to local travelers for short vacation packages. Every day the lobby looked more like a crowded bus depot, rather than a Mexican beach resort lobby. Every morning we had to struggle just to find an empty clean table to eat breakfast at. The pools were always crowded and very dirty. Because of the large amount of vacationers, you must wait in lines for just about everything…towels, drinks, outside showers, restaurants, etc. etc. The hotel guests on the beach were very disrespectful playing loud music and throwing trash down all over the beach. The hotel restricted people from entering the ocean for 2 days due to a supposed crocodile sighting. Last I knew, the ocean is filled with sea life and should be entered at your own risk. The hotel does not own the ocean, so I’m not sure how that was even enforced! I could list more things that we found unsatisfactory about the resort, but I will leave it at this. We love Puerto Vallarta, however we will NOT return to Riu Jalisco.

We just returned from another wonderful 6 nights at the RIU Jalisco. We did not travel the last 2 years because of COVID concerns, but we really missed our yearly visit. We had a great trip! The hotel was very careful. People were very good about wearing masks. To go in a food venue or near a bar, you had to put a mask on. The restaurants had hand sanitizer and you had to take your temperature to go in a restaurant. It was so nice to be by the pool and the ocean again. The employees worked so hard to keep you happy. Sofia, the towel lady, was awesome. Jorge and Jose Bravo were great at the beach restaurant. Laura was a wonderful server. Edgar, in customer service, was terrific. He made sure we had the best room with a beautiful view. Our housekeeper was terrific. Our room was sooo clean. Employees all over were washing floors and trying to keep things so clean. The food was really good-so. much variety. And, of course, we love the tropical drinks and entertainment! Can't wait to go back!
Oh, and the covid test we had to take before we left Mexico was so easy and quick!

The resort grounds is beautiful, very well maintained, workers are always watering, cleaning. The resort is set way back from the beach, You can’t see the ocean from your room nor the pools. There are two pools, we used the swim up bar pool. There is entertainment by the pool, water exercises, Bingo, music etc. The washrooms by this pool are well maintained with a worker always standing by to clean and mop up. Beach is nice, lots of chairs everywhere, no need to get down there early to save a chair. Food was very good, excellent variety. They seriously need to address the birds around the food areas. Disappointed about our room, we were on the 2nd floor facing an empty lot and the Riu Vallarta vs the courtyard. We had called twice to see how we could get the courtyard and was told good views in all rooms,(had a standard room) We inquired when we got there how to get to the courtyard view, and told needed to upgrade room more $. They say the rooms are assigned 1 week prior to arriving. We are returning in Feb as had booked it before this trip. We will attempt to try to get assigned a Courtyard view, it would be enjoyable given I am a early riser and like to sit out and have coffee and enjoy the views…this was the only thing missing at this resort the view of ocean or a view from the deck.

This was my third trip to Riu Jalisco and I have to say this is one of my favourite resorts because you simply can't beat the quality of food, entertainment and customer service at the resort.

This was the first time I did a 14 day vacation at the resort and it was absolutely delightful. As with any vacation you can run into minor inconveniences, however the team at Riu Jalisco acted immediately with resolutions to improve our stay. Edgar, Ivan, and Alfonso at reception are exceptional; they go above and beyond for Riu guests. They provide thorough information to guests and always find a solution for any concerns you have. The manager, Alejandro also has exceptional customer service skills and is always happy to help!

The food at the Riu Jalisco never fails to impress, make sure you check out the a la carte steakhouse, Italian and Japanese restaurant. I'd recommend the ribs at the steakhouse, seafood linguini at the Italian restaurant and the peking duck and sushi at the Japanese restaurant. Jose Bravo and Manuel who work in the steakhouse always ensure your dining experience is a pleasant one, we went back to the steakhouse 3-4 times just because their service was so delightful.

Luis from customer relations has outstanding customer service and conflict resolution skills; after a few minor inconveniences at the resort, Luis took the time to call my room to ensure that everything was taken care of and even set up a special birthday dinner in the Italian restaurant for us with flowers, balloons and the works!

The entertainment at the resort is also top notch; within the Riu complex of the Riu Vallarta, Riu Jalisco and Riu Palace Pacifico, the Riu Jalisco is considered the "party resort" so every Friday night you will notice buses arriving from the other resorts for the white or neon party which alternate every week. Don't forget to bring a white and neon outfit!

As mentioned in other reviews, yes the Riu Jalisco is operating at maximum capacity with locals arriving and departing daily. While I didn't see this as a hinderance to my vacation I would recommend going early to the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner rather than at peak times as it does become quite busy, however I always managed to get a table in less than 5 minutes no matter what time it was.

All in all I definitely recommend the Riu Jalisco and will be returning in the future for a 4th trip!

We stay at a Riu almost all the time when we go away, this Riu was just a good as most we have stayed at. We had a bit of a problem at first with room. but it was quickly fixed. The grounds are really pretty, with lots of staff constantly cleaning and scrubbing everything down. Bathrooms were very clean , only thing we found was the womens bathroom by the steakhouse the door was extremely heavy and hard to open. The food was not bad, always found something to eat and never went hungry. The beach is nice, would of been nicer if you were not stepping on cigarette butts everywhere, The resort should have smoking areas at the beach as they do around the pool. I will say this to any Management reading this, PLEASE give some extra cooking utensils to the beach snack place, you know the one next to the steakhouse but on the sand, twice we stood in line and watched the cook, use his 1 utensil which was TONGS, flip a raw burger, then either flip a cooked burger or lift a bun he had toasting on the grill This is cross contamination at its worse, only a matter of time before someone gets very ill. All in all it was a decent and relaxing vacation, we will stay again, and we would recommend, but we will say keep a eye on the burgers.

Overall, this is a solid 4 star hotel as advertised. Some think 4 star just means service or quality, when often it more about what the hotel offers for amenities. This hotel offers everything one would expect at a 4 star and the friendly staff that give great service is an added bonus. The Food was to be expected. We liked the Steakhouse and Mexican the most. Buffet was good and typical of what we expected. Out Family room was big, nice. Shows in evening were good. Beach is great. Lots of chairs around pools so no need to get there early. No reservations needed at restaurants. We've been to many 4 and 5 star resorts in Mexico. I would recommend the Riu. We walked down to the Riu Vallarta and up to the Palace, also very nice. I tell people, if you want 5 star, go to a 5 star.

We just returned home and this being our first trip to Mexico, and the Jalisco, we really wanted to love this resort.

First the resort is breathtakingly beautiful! If you are looking for a traditionally Mexican experience the Jalisco is a 10 out of 10. It’s clean there is never a shortage of activities for families.

The beach is also just as stunning. Ocean was surprisingly warm and very swimmable with a flat sandy bottom.

However, we chose the Jalisco to celebrate my children’s birthdays (18 and 14). Despite telling Riu via email and the front desk multiple times of their birthdays, they were not recognized in any way. We also requested a room upgrade (told them we’d pay for it) via email and when we checked in (we had the family room with 3 beds in one room). After being told 2 times to come back and ask again later, we’re were told to go to the Vallarta if we wanted an upgrade as there was nothing available.

Additionally, on day 4, my 14 year daughter was badly stung by a jellyfish. The pool lifeguards were fantastic, treating her, giving us instructions on what to do if the pain persists, and how to treat the wounds. But again we were disappointed that at no point did the hotel ever follow up with us to check to see how she was doing.

If you choose the Jalisco purely for the atmosphere and location only then you’ll have a great time. If you want any personal acknowledgment whatsoever or be treated well, this is not that type of resort.

Dear Nicole, Thank you for providing feedback on your recent experience at our hotel. Certainly, we are disappointed to hear of the inconveniences you faced during your visit and apologize for any inconvenience. Good or otherwise, we want to know what our guests are thinking, and your feedback is essential for our success, so we will be sure to share your comments with the appropriate leaders to coach and lead their team for improvement. Regarding the birthdays, in these cases, we encourage our valued guests to inform our staff upon arrival and, if the situation and the occupation allows it, they will be delighted to prepare everything in order to make sure everyone enjoys a very memorable moment. It is a gesture of appreciation and courtesy of the management not something to be requested and guarantied beforehand. We regret that due to the high volumen of occuppation we were not able to offer you this. We appreciate your candid feedback and hope you will give us another opportunity since we would like to exceed your expectations in the future. Sincerely, Hotel Riu Jalisco Online Reputation Manager

I must start with the fact that i typically only like to post positive reviews, there's enough folks who state the bad and not the good. While i really want to give this place a 3, i can't. there were 9 of us in my party and collectively we had 4 rooms; this review is a compendium of all our input.
Generally speaking, we thought the food was poor to average. When the kids won't eat much of the food you knows there's a problem. Breakfast was ok, but lunch and dinners were meh. the after hour snacks were generally horrible and very limited. if you're a vegetarian or vegan, just make your like easy and stay away. To boot, most foods at a buffet were mislabeled, and they ran out of many foods, even during prime times. Drinks were average at best - inconsistent recipes on mixed drinks, and as you might guess pretty low quality of drinks. Even unlimited bad drinks can be bad. the sugary drinks were almost intolerably sweet.

The general staff there all tried hard and were polite. however, during peak meal hours they seemed short staffed.
The rooms are outdated and musty. none of us could figure out how to control the A/C, and each room was freezing. the bathrooms have an awkward configuration, so it's really hard to get privacy to just change clothes, etc. other small things too were annoying, like getting a room key card to work, dealing with the manual and handwritten process of checking out towels made no sense.
The location is good and the beach out front is nice enough.

We have been repeated (14 times) visitors and have always been treated like vip by staff and management. This trip we were not satisfied at all From cockroaches to leaking water in bathroom and then being locked out of our room for 2 hours The new management I found very unfriendly you would think you would be welcomed and acknowledged when you have stayed so many times. We are going to try the samba in March and see how things go. I have reached out to the Jalisco but have not heard anything.
