Sunwing Vacations Nov 20-27, 2022.
All culinary options were very enjoyable and lots of flavours. Selections and choices at the buffets were always generous.
There was walk-up access to the a-la carte restaurants was available, subject to immediate availability or going onto a wait-list,... the longest wait time was 35 minutes.
While dining at the Mexican, Asian and Italian restaurants was excellent, Botana (Steakhouse) was the best of the options though I'm biased towards the ribs and offerings there.

Room: Having been here 3-4 times previous, I'd requested & was assigned a room with King bed on 2nd floor with courtyard view near end of a wing....no hall noise, and close enough to hear the band or theatre sounds...which is OK/expected given where the room was located,...sounds like vacation to me.
But the room had bunk beds, I'd have preferred a couch/table and it would have freed up the bunk-bed room for a family.

Service: All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Check-in and check-out were very smooth. As usual, the maid services always offer a personalized touch with subtle touches in the room.
Wifi coverage was very good through-out the resort.

Other: Location is great, a very enjoyable walk to Bucerius either via beach or the street/paved trail....feel very safe and confident while still being aware of the surroundings. Great shops and restaurants along the way.

Consider: Having bicycles for rent or use would be a nice touch, the ride along the meridian path in any direction would be a nice outing.
I suspect it would be very tough to ensure everyone gets access to them while always needing maintenance of some sort. But if there was something to add to the Jalisco, this would be 1 thing. There're no tennis / pickle-ball courts either,...which given the room available in the property and popularity of the latter sport, perhaps another activity option to consider.

Returned from his hotel in November and just loved everything about it. The standard of food was excellent and the service you receive from the staff is very good and they were all extremely friendly even without tipping. The choice of drinks from the bars were really good about the best all inclusive choice I have seen. The beach was really good with plenty of shade under the trees for those who wanted it. The staff keep you entertained with something different all the time.
Our only disappointment was that is was so far away from the centre of Puerto Vallarta. We expected Nuevo Vallarta to have some shops and bars but theres nothing but hotels. There are regular buses going into Puerto Vallarta and taxis aren't too badly priced

Lovely stay at Riu Jalisco – we’ve been to a few Riu's in Mexico and Cuba – and our expectations were met. Great landscape, food, people, ambiance...we were not disappointed! The weather was perfect, too.
The beach is excellent - well groomed and plenty of chairs. Had to laugh when a woman on the beach was trying to “reserve” an entire row of 12 chairs for her group...with 2 towels and a little table tossed on top...I tagged her Queen of the Beach when she said to a few other ladies that she’d reserved them at 7am, she’d been there 9 days so this was her place on the beach, and did they see who took her chairs?...ah, you can’t choose your fellow guests! At least we enjoyed ourselves playing volleyball and relaxing on the beach. Managed to see a few breaching humpback whales in the distance – very cool! There are lots of beach vendors are in your face constantly - a bit of a put off, but "No, gracias" goes a long ways.
We loved the fact that local families came to the Rui for vacation, too and we spent many hours at the bars in the middle courtyard practicing our Spanish with some :)
Our room was super - 5159 - it was close to the elevators and stairs to the main lobby and buffet and looked directly into the fountain area. The patio was a larger, more private one than most. It was wonderful for sipping coffee and chilling. If only the rooms had coffee makers, it would be close to perfect! The only crazy noise we heard was from folks coming off the elevators late after drinking a wee bit and a few screaming children in the mornings...
We didn`t have any problems with the variety and quality of food in the main buffet or the beach buffet. Always something tasty to try - loved the different roast meat each evening, carved for you at the station. We were only able to try the Brazilian specialty restaurant and it was great, especially the creamy tomato soup....yum. It was difficult to get reservations for the restaurants, however; even waking up early to get in the line up didn`t ensure you a reasonable reservation time. Eating dinner at 9:45pm isn`t really an option for us old geezers!
For a change of scenery, the town of Bucerias is totally worth the 1 hour walk on the beach...There are so many wonderful artsy shops there....if you stay to the south of the "market place" with its typical souvenirs. Such a wonderful laid back village...prices are better than in PV.
Overall it was a great trip - great hotel - would highly recommend it! Adios amigos :) And remember your large thermal mug! Very important :)

Okay...where to start!? Well I did have a great trip and would go back, just to start off. I was travelling with my husband and our 9 month old daughter so I was very nervous about the whole thing never having travelled with a baby before. I read over 100 reviews on this thing so I felt prepared for everything that lay ahead. We actually tried to switch to the Riu Vallarta due to the high volume of negative reviews with the Jalisco but the cost was too high with no guarantee there either.

The commute from the airport to the hotel was fine and if you just get a guy to bring your luggage right to your bus and ignore anyone in between then you'll be safe from the time share people. We didn't get a Corona when you arrive at the hotel like I heard, instead you got a drink of juice I think......I did ask for a less noisy room due to baby and he assured me the room would be good. I had also sent an email to the hotel asking for such so maybe that helped. We had room 4147 and it was good. The view was nice, the smell was fine and the bed was comfy. It wasn't 2 doubles pushed together but rather 1 king. We kept the airco on all the time so it didn't smell at all. The fridge was stocked and we asked for more water for the baby and the maid brought tons. I read the walls are like paper and they are. Even though it was near the back of hotel you can always hear noise in the hallways. I couldn't imagine going in high season, no way. If it was noisy now in low season then it would be horrible then. There were always a few drunks at night and then just early risers chatting it up in the morning. We had enough room with the 3 of us and setting up the pack'n'play (didn't trust their cribs)....you don't spend too much time in there anyway. THe balcony was perfect too. There was no bathtub, only a shower with limited room. Defintely not a modern hotel by any means as the Vallarta would have been but very tolerable, especially for the price.

The grounds, like the reviews say.....awesome, perfect, don't get better than this. The workers are little bees everywhere always busy, busy, busy....I have never seen such hard workers. THere are so many of them and they are never slacking. Bravo! The place in immaculate, no dirt anywhere. I don't know if this is a 3 1/2 or 5 star since they all vary but I have been to some 5+ and the cleanliness of this place far exceeded those. The food too.....wow, the best I have ever had. Breakfast to die for...OMG...so much food and soooooo good. Lunch was better in the place on the beach (B something) than the Nazarit. Dinner was great in the main restaurant and we loved the brazilian (have to get resos for). The steakhouse on the beach for dinner was nothing special and we never made the asian place (again resos) unfortunately. We went into PV and ate at PiPi's for authentic mexican one night...that was fun, cheap and yummy...definitely recommend. A cab to PV is $18 and they will take you right to the markets.

Drinks....go to Antonio and Leo. They rock....give them some money every couple of days and they'll take care of you. They make the best drinks and will single you out in the crowd and give you a drink before you even ask. We'd always get premium booze like Bacardi and Smirnoff but you have to ask....you won't get sick if you drink this stuff and always ask for double or fuerte if you don't feel like always going back for more. SOme people brought their own insulated mugs and they would fill them up....crazy! I drank a colada with banana with Bacardi rum....OHG so good and I could drink it all day and feel great at night, no belly ache or anything. THe Miami Vice is good too and a nice treat is the toasted almond....try it!

The weather wasn't that great since it was the rainy season but we got enough sun which was fine since we were with a baby. They have great loungers in the pool and tons of extra ones around the pool.....again, off season I guess. The pool was never too busy. We stayed in the adult one where there were a lot of children in too but it wasn't too annoying. They had a children's one with slides, etc.

They have a gym with enough equipment to do 1 exercise for each muscle and bunch of cardio machines and good music too. The spa was nice...we got the deep tissue massage and I defintely recommend. It by far was the best massage I have ever had in my life and I go all the time here. It was $135 for 2 for about an hour or just under......you will melt afterwards. If you sign up for a membership you get 15%off your services.

The prices at the beach shops were fine if you talk them down....beautfiul jewellery. The markets at the resort are okay, prices too high and they wouldn't come down too much. THe prices were definitely the best in PV and they'll come down. Everyone just kept saying that it is slow season so come on...can't go lower but whatever, soon enough it will be high season again so I kept going lower!

The nightly shows were fine...nothing crazy, really a bunch of kids doing a good job. THe club was small and stunk and only opened at 11 but we never stayed due to parental obligations now....lol! The hotel bar is open 24 hrs.

The staff were very friendly and very accomodating, not like the people had written in the reviews. THe majority of visitors were spanish speaking for sure followed by the British.

So the negative point I have to mention is that our maid stole my glasses. I hate to blame her but it was as clear as if she did it in front of me. Based on reading the other reviews I was nervous and worried about theft and alas, it happened to me. We had yet to get our safe key and I had left a pair of sunglasses on the table (cheapies but still) and when I went back after the cleaning, they of course were gone. Luckily we did hide everything that we really cared about but I couldn't believe how blatent it was. We weren't sure how to handle it....do we not tip her now and she'll steal more but how can we tip when we know she took them. And the piss off was that we had left her $5 USD that day too....argh. So get a safe key and lock it all up day 1!!!! They won't give you one, you have to ask.

The day we were leaving we were told by Sunquest to meet (just meet) in the lobby at 4 and our flight was at 7. We showed up at 4:10 and the bus taking us drove off......WTF! SO we had to take a $25 cab ride to the airport. OH well....they push you through if you have a kid!

Mosquitos weren't as bad as people said...they seem to only bite your ankles and feet so spray them before you go out and you should be okay.

All in all, we would go back again for this price.....maybe the Vallarta would be a better bet in that the rooms are just more modern, etc. but really you are supposed to be able to use both hotels ammenities.

Hopefully this was somewhat helpful!

Have fun

My husband and I just returned from a week stay at the Riu Jalisco in Nuevo Vallarta and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our experience at the hotel was completely positive . This hotel is a solid 4-4.5 star hotel The room was a good size, and impressively clean . In fact t the staff were constantly cl;eaning in the rooms and in the halls and lobby area.
We were most inpressed with the couteous, friendly staff who we found spoke English well. The staff were always willing to help. The grounds of the hotel are simply beautiful, The beaches clean and the nicest in the area. Granted there are no waiters serving at the pool area and you must walk to the bar to get your drinks but that hardly was a problem.
The location of the hotel is such that you can do a good walk on the beach in either direction. The walk to Buicerias was a most enjoyable one. We spent some time in Bucerias which is a lovely town with a colorful market. Just beyond the market is another part of town which is filled with cute restaurants and art shops. There is an art walk there Thursday evenings.

The food in the hotel is fresh and the variety is very good. Of course some people can get sick in Mexico but this can be attributed to sensitive stomaches, and different styles of cooking I tend to like to eat vegetables and fruits andf these were plentiful. There was a lot of choice.
All in all it was an exceptionally well maintained , clean hotel with helpful, incredibly friendly staff. Granted the walls were a bit thin and noise from outside could be heard at times and the floors do not have carpeting but are marble. So the sounds can carry but also this makes it cleaner.
This is Mexico so the comforts of North America will not be there but that is why we travel to other countries to experience difference.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone but if you want waiters at the pool , soft bathrobes, comforts of the big American 5 star hotels this hotel may not be for you. But it certainly is one of the nicest I have seen in Puyerto vallarta.

There’s nothing, it’s only hotels along the beach, the closest town is Bucerías which is a 45 min walk or 15 min taxi. Downton PV is a 25 min taxi. Uber is also in Mexico which is cheaper than the taxis.
