Neighbourhood: Gracia
Gracia literally stands out from the pack. It used to be an independent town until late into the 19th century. Though it’s just a short commute away from the centre, a visit here feels like you’re in a whole different city. The bohemian vibe has drawn many international artists to this area, resulting in a wide selection of galleries, live music and artsy boutique stores. The nightlife is centered around the vibrant Gracia’s plaças, where young and old gather to enjoy a drink outside. Carrer de Verdi, its main street, offers affordable restaurants and a movie theatre that screens new as well as classic films in their original language. However Gracia's greatest treasure lies just up the hill at Guell Park, where Antoni Gaudi's vibrant and revolutionary art sculptures stand atop unequaled views of Barcelona.

- Andreea - Teodo... BBrasov, Romania50 contributionsMust see in BarcelonaThis is a must see in Barcelona, it gives such an interesting perspective on the starting work of Gaudi, it really puts all of his work into perspective. The work put in this house is incredible and all the rehabilitation that's explained helps you better understand all of his work. We enjoyed every step of our visitDear Andreea, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are delighted to know that you had a wonderful visit discovering all the details hidden in Gaudi's first masterpiece. - Ellen ZAtlanta, Georgia13 contributionsHighly recommended example of early Gaudi workThis is a wonderful house to tour. Along with Palau Guell, I preferred it over the more well known Gaudi houses to tour in Barcelona because these earlier places are more accessible. By touring these smaller and earlier efforts, you get to see the development of Gaudi's early ideas, while also imagining what it would be like to live there. Our tour guide was excellent. She was highly knowledgable and led a well-paced trip through the exterior and interior, providing a terrific mix of history and context together with pointing out key architectural elements. Highly recommended.Hello Ellen, Thank you so much for sharing your review with us! We are happy to see that you were able to discover all the secrets and details of Gaudi's first masterpiece scattered throughout the house. We hope to see you again soon! - AnitaScunthorpe, United Kingdom1,459 contributionsFantastic. The first Gaudi house.I chose this over the other Gaudi properties, as it seemed to be the best value for money and I reckon I made the right decision. All areas of the house are accessible and the original Gaudi part has been beautifully restored as has the garden. We didn't take a guided tour but there's a good presentation provided and plenty of information about the house and garden on the self-guided app tour. You also get a 25% discount with the Barcelona Card.Dear Anitah, Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I was delighted to find that a new one had opened a few years ago. We bought tickets online to see it after a return visit to the Sagrada Familia. While it is smaller than Casa Batlo and Casa Mila, it is no less interesting, and it is much more relaxed and uncrowded. No standing in lines!Dear Visitor, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. - TravelerSaint Paul, Minnesota153 contributionsGaudi's First HomeThis was a nice surprise! I found it yesterday when I knew we couldn't see Palau Guell on Monday because it is closed. We went today. It is a block and a half from the Fontana (green line) metro. We paid 20.50 Euros each to enter. It is Gaudi's first house that he was a part of. We were able to buy tickets and audio guide on your phone when we arrived. Bring headphones. They do have English and Spanish tours if you plan ahead. It was so nice to go and not have to fight a crowd! They have a cafe there as well and you pay 1 Euro to store your backpack. Thank you for restoring this home and opening it in 2017!!!Dear Visitor, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Casa Vicens with us. - Gemma J55 contributionsWell worth a visit if you like GaudiI love the Gaudi architecture and on my second visit to Barcelona, I was really keen to see some more. This tour was brilliant, not too long so kept the attention of my kids, but equally informative and generated lots of things to talk about afterwards. We couldn’t get booked onto the guided tour, so went around ourselves listening to the audio guide on our phones. This worked really well. There were staff around who were more than happy to answer questions. Thank youDear Gemma, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. If we had just walked around the house I don’t think it would have been half as memorable an experience. We were shown old photos of the property, how it had changed, developed and we learned about the social history of the house as well as Gaudi’s design. This smaller property was really enjoyable to visit. I’d highly recommend the tour.Dear Lisa Thank you for posting your experience with us. We learned so much more having taken this small group, guided tour, than we would have, had we chosen a self-guided tour.
Our guide was knowledgeable, humourous, and welcomed our questions. We highly recommend this experience!

Casa Vicens is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you’re enveloped in a world of vibrant colors and artistic brilliance. The intricate tilework, playful patterns, and unique architectural details make it a feast for the eyes. It’s like stepping into a whimsical dream. And the staff? They’re exceptional—warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the house’s history. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates beauty, creativity, and a touch of magic

After doing Casa Batllo, Casa Mila and Palau Guell, I was worried that Casa Vicens would be a waste of time. However, it was a really lovely experience! The explanations provided by the audio guide were great and this house is a true architectural wonder! Also loved the exhibit showcasing houses by Gaudi's comtemporaries as well as the presentation of the history of the house.

Quite different than other Gaudi designs - but equally magnificent. I could easily live in this home!! Visiting the rooftop is great, but only open if it's not raining. I would recommend this if you're a Gaudi fan

Beautiful architecture and decoration inside and out. Much less crowded than other Gaudí attractions. Easy to get to by metro or about a half hour walk from Casa Mila/ La Pedrera.

I attended a guided tour first thing on a Tuesday morning and there were only 4 of us in the group. Our tour guide, Patricia was amazing. She really went in depth with the details and history of the house. It is only a few euros more to do the guided tour versus the audio guide and I would highly recommend the guided tour. Make sure to explore the local Gracia area as well - there are many boutique shops and cute cafes within walking distance of the casa.

Beautiful building embodying Gaudi's amazing designs. Casa Vicens was the first building that Gaudi designed in his life, and frankly it is a perfect depiction of his brilliant mind. The colours and architecture are all unique and Gaudi created illusions in such a way that a person seated inside the building would feel they are sitting outside under the clear sky.

Better than the other Gaudi houses and attractions by far. This casa is extremely interesting and slightly out of the city center so there are fewer tourists.

Dear yyyyyy,
We dearly suggest you take advantage of the cosy bar and terrace you will find inside Casa Vicens: Café Hofmann. We are sure you will enjoy all of the delicacies you can try over there while having a look to Casa Vicen's magnificent façade.
We kindly remind you ticket is mandatory for gaining access to both the house and the garden (were Café Hofmann is located).

Quanto tempo demora a visita ao interior da casa?
Uma hora será suficiente?
Obrigada.
Written September 9, 2019
It can be enough. We spent longer because we watched the movie, looked outside, looked at a very interesting exhibit about other architects and took many, many pictures. Plus, we move a little slowly. Oh, we also asked a lot of questions as we are big Gaudi fans. Indeed, this house will be most interesting to people who love Gaudi and much less so to those who don't. Enjoy your trip. Barcelona is a magical place.

There is a ticket office inside the building, prior to the visit entrance, so they should sell tickets.
Another thing is that Casa Vicens tries to sell online as many tickets as possible.

Bonjour !

How long is a guided tour vs going through the house on your own?
Written April 23, 2019
We did not take a guided tour, because there are employees in almost every room glad to answer any questions you have and they will stay as long as you have questions. We spent much longer than we thought because there was an exhibit about other architects that I found fascinating and because we asked a lot of questions and then we walked through a second time and we took a lot of pictures. On the other hand, you could breeze through in 15 minutes. We spent perhaps 1.5 - 2 hours. How long depends on your level of interest. My assumption is that someone who goes there is extremely interested. Otherwise, there is no reason to see it. Enjoy yourself.
