Hotels near Basílica de la Sagrada Familia

Basilica de la Sagrada Familia is a church devoted to the Holy Family. One of Antoni Gaudi’s most famous works, the church is perhaps best known for still being under construction since 1882—with works funded purely by donations. Take a lift to the top of the towers for a panoramic view of the city and marvel at the ornate architecture. The nativity facade and crypt have also been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status. Skip the line with a pre-booked tour with tower access, or combine your visit with another of Gaudi's work, Parc Guell. – Tripadvisor

    A lot of people around
We visited the Basílica de la Sagrada Familia on a Saturday in June 2023. There were a lot of people around from Japan, Korea and China. It was a must to see but I did not like the high black wall running all around the Basilica.

    Beautiful interior
Getting to go inside was definitely worth it, as I had only seen it from outside before. The stain glass was incredible. The staff weren’t too friendly, and we were rushed out of security without being allowed to put belts/bags back on. It is said you must cover shoulders and knees however we saw people not doing so. The museum was small but interesting.

    Words can't describe!
Had a private tour here with Suzi, from Tours With Locals. It's just a must see, as you really can't describe the beauty and enormity of the church. Your really should go with a guide but its beautiful to see however you can.

    The reason to visit Barcelona!
Probably the most amazing building I have ever seen and entered. The exterior is so unusual, complex and yet simple in color. Statues are exquisite. But the most amazing part is the interior. The stained glass is incredible, unlike any cathedral I have ever entered. The colors are so carefully orchestrated and create such a strong impression. The interior height feels huge - such drama! We took a tour through Walks-Europe that we booked in the US through a travel agent. It was great as it got us into each site upon arrival and gave us information that helped us understand and appreciate Gaudi even more. A must see if you are in Barcelona, and in fact, a reason to visit Barcelona. For us it was THE reason, and it did not disappoint.

    Top Attraction in Spain
I had previous walked around the Sagrada Familia well before my timed admission to soak all of it in, as this is the main reason for me being in Barcelona! I made my way over to the Sagrada Familia entrance for my 2:45PM timed admission. The process was very easy and I am glad I purchased an online ticket the day before, as I bypassed all the other ticket holders who purchased at the box office. There is an audio portion that you can download that takes you through all the view points of the Sagrada Familia. The highlights for me, was the amazing tree like columns that support the structure, the different colours of stained glass especially with the sun shining through giving it a heavenly illumination, the detail in the large bronze doors, the view from the tower, and the overall amount of pristine detail through the church. As for the history of the Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudi takes over the project in 1883 while still working on other buildings. In 1926 Gaudi dies and in 1936 the Sagrada Familia was vandalized during the Spanish Civil War, the plans and photographs were burnt and the plaster models are smashed. However, in 1939, the project continues due in part to the material found in Gaudi’s workshop, giving us what we see today, 135 years later from the start of the project. The attraction is a must do, as it was incredible! I spent a full three hours in total from the time I entered the Sagrada Familia until the time I left, that is how great this attraction is!

Amazing location, not over-rated, book tickets ahead of time
Some might say it's overated, but the Sagrada Familia is truly a sight to behold. You really should visit it, even if it's just the outside. I didn't really get the size of it until I saw it myself. I recommend going on a sunny day at noon for the best lighting inside. The inside is beautiful and the stained glass makes for an amazing decoration. You don't need any other adornments when the walls are painted just from the light passing through the stained glass. The Tower visit is there just for the view you can get from there. Be mindful that you go up by elevator, but you go down on foot, about 400 stairs in a narrow winding down stairwell.

    Great trip to the top
La Sagrada is a picture no matter where you look at it from - the ground, inside, or up top once you've climbed all the steps. Definitely worth visit if you're in this wonderful city. Would be even better if it was fully built!

Exceeds expectations! More beautiful than you can imagine
I studied Gaudi and the Sagrada Familia. I had seen many pictures of it on the Internet and on TV. No matter how much anyone tells you about it, there is nothing that can describe the feeling of being there/experiencing it. It is amazing on the outside, but, when I walked in, all I could say was "Oh, my God!" It is breathtaking. The colors, the ethereal feel, the feeling of being pulled up to Gaudi's interpretation of Heaven. Go in the afternoon. The colors are unbelievably gorgeous. We bought the tickets with the fast-track entry. They were absolutely worth it. We went in quickly. No waiting. We went on a Monday, which is supposed to be the slowest day for tourists. There were still many people there. I think everyone has the right to visit, but I was impacted by the fact that people don't care that this is a church. They walk around, make noise, and even drag their suitcases. That was a bit disconcerting. I recommend taking a tour of the museum once you're done with the Basilica. You will understand its history and Gaudi's work a lot better if you do. If you're in Barcelona, don't miss the Sagrada Familia. If there is one thing you should see in this city, it is this church. It is amazing! You won't forget this experience.

    Not to be missed
This is without question the most beautiful building I've ever seen. You can look at all the photos you want but until you've seen it in person, you haven't really seen it. We did a guided tour (get your tickets early!) and went up in one of the towers. Hands down our favorite activity while in Barcelona, even for the kids.

    Awesome!
Amazing! That word is so often overused but not here. I think Walt Disney took I inspiration for his Disney castle as this was just magical. Loved the glistening mosaics at the top of each tower. Inside we were awestruck. The tower trip was brief but worth it.

This pedestrian-only street is a rite of passage for first-time travelers in Barcelona. Starting from Plaça de Catalunya, amble along the boulevard where you'll find food kiosks and spot famed attractions like the Gran Teatre del Liceu theater, the Palau de la Virreina Palace, and La Boquería market—the city’s famous marketplace. Entertainment is plenty too thanks to the human statues and caricature artists, amidst other wacky street performers. If you’re not planning to shop, enjoy a jug of sangria at any of the tapas bars and people-watch away. Besides joining city tours, Barcelona’s hop-on hop-off bus is another great way to get here. – Tripadvisor
