This was the first couples holiday both I and my partner had been on, and this hotel definitely helped create a beautiful holiday away! The staff were so friendly, couldn't be more helpful or attentive. The rooftop bar is classy with lots of places to sit and the pool (although small) was refreshing and a great spot to relax in. They had a surplus of sunbeds and the view towards the ocean was lush.
Our room was gorgeous, with a great view and a bloody HUGE bed! Bathroom was spacious and the room had 3 large mirrors and lovely warm lighting. Could see the sea from our room, nice blackout curtains and plenty of space to store clothes and shoes.
3 different kinds of steam room/sauna downstairs next to the cute little gym which were fab! Although, my Estonian boyfriend (who considers saunas a way of life) argues they could have been hotter! I personally thought they were great.
The location was great, 10 mins away from a metro and like 7 stops away from central Barca which sounds a lot but it's like a 10-12 min ride. The beach was lovely, with a tikki bar and an alert lifeguard. You can walk down the beach toward the Marina and the central beach bars and nightclubs, it takes about 30 mins but it is a gorgeous evening (or early morning lol) wander.
Gigantic shopping mall about a 10-15 min walk from the hotel where they have all high street shops and lots of restaurants. Great if you want to pick some things up before a night out, go to the cinema or have a chill dinner!
Only thing I'd mention was breakfast was okaaaay, IMO not worth the 17 euros per person per morning but there are also a surplus of lovely cafes around the hotel that are open in the morning that sell beautiful pastries and excellent coffee for about 10-12 euros for 2 people.
Pharmacy 2 mins right of the hotel with everything you'd need, ran by a very kind man with excellent English!
Overall reaaally lovely experience, would highly recommend!

We stayed here for four nights and would choose to stay again. The location is great for the beach but it's a little far out from the main city. You can get a bus here but it does take around 40 mins (the metro line on the hotel is currently partly closed). We didn't mind being far out as we preferred the beach location. The hotel was clean, the rooms spacious enough and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was also big and comfy. You do only get one free bottle of water but we just filled them up with tap water. There also was no kettle in the room, only a nespresso machine which is odd considering they give you free tea and instant coffee. We didn't ask about getting one as we just used the nespresso pods. No milk either but we managed to get a cup from the breakfast room. There is a small fridge so could keep it in there.
Currently, they are renovating the front which means if you paid for a sea view room, you will be met with workers and scaffolding. We did not pay for that and had a corner room which actually gave us both a sea and city view. There was no noise from the work and it was quiet at night. The lifts are a bit of a nightmare, a bit slow and small so not great when busy.
The pool deck gets very crowded and there aren't enough sun loungers - because of this we didn't really use it until late afternoon and went to the beach instead. It's not a pool to swim but rather one to sit in but it was pleasant enough.
If your flight or travel out is later than check-in, the hotel will store your baggage and still allow you access to the gym showers if you want to go to the beach while you wait.
The hotel has electric scooters for rent which were great fun and if you want to use bikes, there is a donkey bike station by the beach which is only a 5 min walk.

4 nights away with my son at the occidental. Lovely hotel, staff are really welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had the room only option. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The cleaniess of our room was of a high standard and cleaned everyday if you left the sign on the door handle. Breakfast was available if you chose to dine there. We had a sea view which was nice. Transport links are a short walk away, a large shopping centre about a 7 minute walk. Supermarket and restaurant a couple of minutes walk. We dined at the tango grill (next to the hotel) and you had the option to take away. plenty to see and do in barcelona just make sure you have comfortably footwear as there's alot of ground to cover! For 21 euros you can get the t-usual ticket this lasts for 30 days and you can use it on the airport train, metro and buses within the city zones. Nou camp ground is under construction (which we didn't realise) so only museum tour available. All in all we had a wonderful time and we would choose this hotel again if we visit barcelona again.

I don’t believe cleanliness is something that they value at this hotel. Went from one room to another and both had had low quality cleaning. Then walked in as my room was being cleaned and saw that the cleaner was washing the coffee cups in the bathroom sink and drying them with a used pillowcase. Considering how much much I’ve paid to stay here, you’d think you’d get quality rooms with very high standard, especially since it’s “four stars”.

We absolutely loved our stay at Occidental Atenea Mar! The hotel is in a great location for morning beach walks and just walks anywhere nearby for food! Staff and service was excellent, and we enjoyed utilizing room service on those days where you adventured too hard and need a relaxing dinner or snack in - especially their cheesecake. We would definitely stay again; we only wish the rooms had balconies so we could relax outside without having to go to the pool bar.

Hotel is located about 20mins outside of Barcelona city centre. Plenty of taxis pass by the front of the hotel so access isn’t a problem. The nearby beach is fantastic and there are a selection of restaurants nearby and the diagonal mar shopping centre.
Check in was efficient and the staff were all very pleasant. We paid for a deluxe sea view room which was spacious and contained a mini fridge and safe. Air con was excellent and the bathroom spacious. Room service was very efficient.
The pool and pool area are quite small, access isn’t granted before 9am so be early!
Breakfast was expensive at €17 per person per day but was well stocked with a great selection

Great location of the hotel by the sea, a few steps and you are on a beautiful promenade by the sea. Rooms not very large but comfortable and clean. It was important for me that the drinking water in the room was replenished every day. The room was cleaned daily.

I am an English speaker. I booked my stay with Occidental for my honeymoon. I had one night for when I landed into Barcelona. Afterwards I would take a Mediterranean cruise and return to Occidental for a second booking. The first booking was a mild wreck. First off, the receptionist misread our reservation and gave us the wrong room. Was not until an hour after we checked in that we were properly sent to our correct room number. Secondly, I forgot some of my things in the hotel during the checkout process. Not in the room but on the reception counter or the breakfast buffet area. I called the hotel after I realized I had forgotten (exactly 10 minutes later when I arrived to my cruise’s port and took my bags out of the cab). The receptionist (a different one than the young lady that mixed up my room reservation) spoke a little bit of English and I tried my best to explain that I was going to be back in a week after my cruise and hope he is able to hold my items for me. Unfortunately he did not understand me, which I do not at all fault the gentleman for; I completely acknowledge it was on me for forgetting and for not being fluent enough in the language to explain. However, the receptionist began to yell at me over the phone. I assumed it was a complete misunderstanding and had my wife explain in Spanish (in which she is fluent) what had happened. He yelled at her as well and told us that there was nothing in our room. At no point did either of us ask for something missing in the room and we tried to explain that our things were most likely right there on his desk or at a table immediately in front of him. Apparently that was the last straw and the receptionist hung up. We returned a week later and our things were completely lost. No one at the hotel knows where it went or if it was reported that a patron left anything at the front desk while checking out. And not once did any reception seem bothered by the fact that this was completely avoidable. Oh well, it was my fault for forgetting my things in the first place; I just hoped that a hotel that charged this much would at least have polite/professional staff that can read reservations and listen to patrons.

We arrrived and the room was literally a sauna! The ac barely worked. Told the reception and they said they would get maintenance to have a look but no one came. Complained again and no one came. Ended up having to TRY to sleep with the windows wide open with the street noise keeping you up. For the standard of the room priced at €266 a night breakfast should be included!! €266 a night for a room you can’t stay in with no breakfast is a joke!

Excelent location, very close to the sea and very good food! I stayed short, but with pleasure. I was travelling in business. Nice bed. Warm water is coming slowly on higher flors. Coffe service is good, also food is nice. I missed woter in the room - all is payable service.

The hotel is mainly located in a residential area - if you live in a town it’s much like that - if you want a busy nightlife and clubs you will need to be located in the centre of town near La Rambla or in the vicinity of. Otherwise you may be disappointed
