Took almost an hour to check in, confusion over the rooms. Asked twice for the double bed to be separated but this didn't happen on any of the days. Bathroom Tap had barely any pressure at all, had to clean my teeth in the bath. Lifts take an absolute age so bear that in mind. On check out again lots of confusion around outstanding balance that we had paid when we checked in. First day got refused to breakfast even though we had paid, had to go back to reception who then told the person who was at the breakfast front desk to let me in. We loved our stay in Barcelona but if i was to return wouldn't be staying here.. This should be a three star not a four star

We are just back from a lovely 4 night stay at this hotel. The hotel was very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was great with lots of choice and this filled us up for hours. The hotel is in a good location. It is outside of Barcelona but there is a metro station ten minutes walk away which gets you to the city centre in a few stops. You get the best of both worlds with this hotel as it is close to the beach while not being too far away from the city. The rooms were a nice size and towels were provided for the pool/beach which was handy. The pool is small and there are not that many sun loungers so I would suggest they invest in a few more. The food at the pool bar was lovely. There are many bars and restaurants close by at Rambla del Poblenou and there is also a large shopping centre only a few minutes walk away - Diagonal Mar Centre. Overall we had a lovely experience at this hotel and would recommend it to a friend.

We’ve had such good experience staying here. The beds are huge, I’ve never seen anything like it. Pillows are so big and soft, I slept so well. The staff couldn’t be any better or nicer, they were so friendly and despite the check in not being available until 3pm, they’ve let us check in at 12pm. This hotel was more on a locals side which was a benefit as it’s peaceful, safe and cheaper places to eat. There is a really nice cafe where we had breakfast every morning. 4 pastries and 2 coffees were only 7 euros. A 5 min walk to many many restaurants and a lovely beach. The metro is only a short walk distance. I would definitely recommend paying for the 3-4 day travel pass as it works for everything. If I were due to return to Barcelona, I would definitely stay here again instead of the town centre as it was so busy we couldn’t even enjoy the markets or shopping. The pool area is spacious , with plenty of sunbeds. Not to forget their delicious sangrias!

A really lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the amenities were great and the rooms were a perfect size and also well equipped. When we arrived, our TV wasn’t working. We reported it to reception one morning, and within 20 minutes, maintenance arrived and fixed it. The hotel bar is grey and incredibly well priced for drinks in comparison to most international city hotel bars. Yes, the hotel is not in the centre of Barcelona, but it is only a 5/10 minute walk to two metro stops that take you right into the city, it takes around 30-45minutes to walk into the centre, which is a lovely walk. There is a very quiet beach right infront of the hotel. The surrounding area is very modern, including the shopping centre ‘Centre Comercial Diagonal Mar’ which is located on a very long and important street for Barcelona. A really great place to stay.

I booked two rooms pre cruise for two couples. We asked for a quiet room and were given a high story upgraded room. We booked breakfast in with our stay. The room was lovely and the breakfast very generous with hot breakfast items and a lovely selection of cold buffet items even Cava.
We travelled back home two weeks later after the cruise and the hotel very generously allowed us to use their facilities as we had a later flight.
This hotel is exceptional value and the staff very helpful and accommodating. A special mention to Ripsi who helped organise this for us.

We are amazed how friendly and helpful the staff was. Especially Melanie and Ripsi. We had a great time in an amazing room with Seaview, used the very refreshing Hozel Outdoor Pool, the wonderful and clean Sauna, the Fitness facilities of the Hotel. The super nice Location close to the sea and the Festival we were attending was very helpful to have a relaxed trip. Nice surroundings in walking distance with little Bars and Restaurants. We will definitely come back!

Great hotel with excellent facilities, the pool area is lovely and the hotel is spotless. We wanted a hotel out of the centre and this was perfect with taxis passing all the time. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially Melanie who was in regular email contact organising balloons etc for my sisters room as we were celebrating her 50th birthday. The only criticism is the slow pool bar service with just one member of staff most of the time. The hotel could have made so much more money out of us and the cocktails had there been a quicker service but didn’t spoil our break and we all had a fabulous time. Would definitely stay again

Most of their rooms just have a very small window without any view which was kind of disappointing at the first and you have to pay a lot change to upgrade it! Their pool was temporary closed because of repairs but they didn’t mention that online in the description and they just told us when we got there! Also the bed especially the mattress was uncomfortable and we couldn’t sleep well at all. We were there just for 3nights and they wasted half of our first day just because we were unhappy with the room with just a small room without any view. And unfortunately it was my birthday!

We stayed at the Occidental for a week as we wanted to combine a sightseeing holiday with some time at the beach. The rooms were very spacious and had tea/coffee making facilities (we obtained milk at breakfast in paper cups as none was supplied, this was kept in the small room fridge) Even though there were building works being carried out on the front of the hotel, the two metal cables running in front of our window did not spoil our sea view. Breakfast was buffet style with a lot of choices. Staff were very polite, friendly and knowledgeable.

The hotel is mainly located in a residential area - if you live in a town it’s much like that - if you want a busy nightlife and clubs you will need to be located in the centre of town near La Rambla or in the vicinity of. Otherwise you may be disappointed
