New hotel in a part of Barcelona being redeveloped, so little in the way of local facilities yet. However Diagonal shopping mall only 10 minutes walk.
Bus 41 takes you to the city centre, the metro is 10 minutes walk also. Buy a T10 ticket, valid on all buses, metro and tram (10 journeys for only €6.30).
My wife was feeling unwell one evening, so we stayed in and ordered room service. TIP - Don't bother - The food was awful, cold and expensive. Only bonus I had a bottle of wine and 2 beers from the mini bar that were gifted on checkout.
Room was clean, beds comfortable, fresh towels daily, what else do you need on a city break.
I endorse other reviewers about the Chinese restaurant next door, it's brilliant and the enormous brandy measure fabulous. It's a must go.
Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and would definitely book again.

I travelled to Barcelona first time for official purpose and had a booking with them. There was an initial hiccup when I reached hotel after 12 hour long trip from India. The front desk told me thee was no booking in my name though I had even made payment in full. However, they said they can give me a room since there weren't much tourist. Once I settled in my room I informed my travel desk back in India about this issue. I was assured everything would be fine. Next day I was in for a big surprise when I returned from office. Hotel Management sent me a big fruit tray along with an apology letter for the misunderstanding. I appreciate this gesture from the bottom of my heart.

Rooms are huge, spacious and cosy. From the window I could directly view the sea and I captured nice pics sitting in my room itself. The bathroom was big clean and supplies replenished everyday. Room service was excellent.

I gave 4 star only because of the limited options for dinner. I missed famous paella in the menu. Breakfast was included in the tariff and the spread is very good.

This is the hotel I would love to go back again and again. This hotel made my Barcelona stay very memorable. Thanks to the management for taking care of everything in such amazing manner.

This hotel is well placed on the outskirts of Barcelona with only a short walk/taxi to The Ramblas etc. Food is pretty standard with continental the main breakfast with cereal/egg also available. The rooms are large and have great facilities and the miniibar prices aren't over the top. If your room is at the front overlooking the beach (well if you stand on a chair) then it is quite noisy but you do get used to it.
Ordered room service and a large bottle of water, burger and fruit salad was under 20 euros.

The bar is also well stocked and is comfortable to meet up.
Didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening as it didn't open until 8:30pm which is late for us Brits!
Overall a really great hotel that doesn't rip you off

We checked in on Apr 10th evening to room 204, which was a superior room with sea views. We got twin beds whereas we had asked for a double bed during our booking. On inquiring about the same with the reception they said that no double bed rooms are available and that the room service would be able to join the beds the next day - which we said ok to. The room however seemed to have some dust/ sand particles all over which we couldn't see clearly at night. The next morning with daylight in the room we were able to see how dirty the room actually was - there was sand and dust all over the floor of the room and bathroom. Bits and pieces of paper, plastic and hair lying in corners. When I called the reception to send someone over to see how unclean the room is, they ask me did I inform the reception last night at the time of check in, and that cleaning the room twice in a day won't be possible. Basically, with a lot of attitude he said I can send someone to clean the room once you leave. We went down to the reception and showed photos (attached) to the lady and she apologised saying there must've been a mistake on the part of the house keeping team and that she will upgrade us to 'deluxe premium' room - a free upgrade since I'd also asked for a double bed the night before. She asked us to pack our luggage so that by the time we return the rooms could be switched. When we returned 4 hours later, our luggage was still lying at the reception and we were handed over the keys to our 'free upgraded' room (mentioned repeatedly). This 'deluxe premium' room turned out to be much smaller (bed occupying 80% of the area, with no separate seating) than our previous 'superior' room which is listed on their website as a lower category room. On checking their website I saw that this upgraded category is supposed to be the same size, with sea views, but better facilities (Nespresso machine, bathrobe/slippers/ tv connectivity). I called the reception to check how they define this as an upgrade since the size is smaller, we have partial sea view and the facilities mentioned aren't there. The only response I got was that "this category is listed as a higher one on our website, it costs 30-40 euros more and we gave you a free upgrade since you also wanted a double bed". I reminded them that I was ok with the previous room as long as it is cleaned and the beds as joined, to which they replied saying that the beds cannot be joined and since we are booked completely for the Easter weekend this is all they have and that once again it's a 'free upgrade'. I asked about the missing facilities - no coffee machine and no bathrobes - she said bathrobes are only available on the 11th/12th floor deluxe premium rooms with full sea views and this room isn't one of those. Basically at the end of everything, we've got a smaller room with a coffee machine which was sent over to end the conversation. Horrible experience - and we still have 4 nights to go. Hoping they don't have anything worse planned for us from here.

Response from Nela G, Manager at Occidental Atenea Mar - Adults Only
Responded Apr 22, 2017
Dear guest, thank you for choosing the Occidental Atenea mar Hotel, for your vacation in Barcelona. I regret to see your expectations were not fulfilled even 4 days prior to your departure. Instead of finding a public review posted in Tripadvisor from your bedroom, I would have appreciated to greet you personally and discuss a convenient solution together. I can assure you would have been taken care and have your expectations covered. I am sorry that several apologies, a double upgrade, complimentary courtesies, and constant attention from our Duty Manager and Guest experience Manager during all your stay were still not enough for you. With best regards, Miguel Solera Operations Manager
