We stayed at Atenea Mar after finding an advert for it on Instagram so I was a little sceptical despite lots of great review as however this hotel exceeded our expectations. From arrival we were warmly welcomed by the kind and smiley staff on reception. We were early for our check in but this didn’t matter and our staff on was ready which was lovely, the room was spotlessly clean and the bed was huge and so comfy! Lovely touch of amenities in the bathroom and fresh towels etc each day, room had everything you needed. The breakfast was fab with so much variety and the service was great. The location of the hotel is brilliant just a couple of mins to the beach, 10 mins to the metro stop and lots of lovely restaurants and shops close by. We had such an amazing stay and we will definitely we back!

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect for my stay at this hotel. I saw when I made reservations that it was a 4-star property, which seemed encouraging; however, upon check-in, it became clear that it's much more of a 3-star hotel that offers some 4-star amenities (such as a laundry service and spa). The rooms are basic but comfortable, and also clean. Room service is also decent, as is the laundry service (though be prepared -- it's pricey).

Drawbacks: be forewarned that the breakfast buffet is 18 euros per person per day, and the quality isn't great for that type of money (it's worth more like 10 euros, in my opinion). Also, this hotel is FAR from everything touristy about Barcelona. We picked it based on the price, but ended up spending what we would have in taxi fare for the same number of nights at a nicer hotel in the heart of the city. Finally, the walls are pretty thin. In fact, we were going to check out on the same day we checked in because we had some very rowdy, noisy neighbors who were singing, laughing, and blasting music across the hall from us. When we expressed this concern to reception, they made it a point to squash this...I believe they called security. It wasn't an issue after that, but this still doesn't change the thinness of the walls. I slept with earplugs in every night, just in case.

Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. There are better options closer to tourist attractions that may cost a bit more upfront, but are much more convenient and walkable than the Occidental.

The room size and overall infrastructure was not outreaching, however, the location is the best you can imagine. If you have stayed in Gothic Region in the center of the city, you know that it is kinda exhausting to stay in Barcelona. This hotel is right in the corner of good neighborhood which is peaceful . Transportation is close, about 10 minutes from metro. The best thing is the BEACH. Only 3 minutes walk from the beach, which was the MOST memorable experience I had from south Europe. Better check this out when the price is reasonable.
