Write a reviewMy girlfriend and I stayed at the Barcelo Atenea Mar for 7 nights in May while attending the Primavera Sound festival. Upon arrival we were informed that the full cost of our stay must be paid in full upfront. As we were staying 7 nights, I felt this was quite unfriendly and untrustworthy.
Though our room was nice, I had booked a double room and what we got was 2 individual beds joined together. In the absence of a pool, I decided I would use the hotels sauna, steam room & Jacuzzi to relax one day only to find that none of these were switched on. When I returned later that afternoon the steam room and sauna were running but the Jacuzzi was really dirty and had lots of dirt collected at the bottom. I would expect more from a 4* hotel.
In general, the staff were pleasant and helpful, though when my girlfriend asked for the address of a local police station ( her phone had been stolen from her handbag at the festival ) she was given a photocopied map which the concierge had drawn a large circle on and said she didn't know the address but the police station was ' somewhere around that area'. She added 'I'm sorry about your phone but hey...it's Barcelona!'
We plan to return to Barcelona for next years festival and will definitely be staying elsewhere.

Dear Eric K I am really sorry about your bad impression of the Atenea Mar, it’s a shame you have decided not to return as we are just a walk away from the Primavera sound festival and at the same time far away not to have the festival music in the hotel at all times. Unfortunately we had to make it a policy in the hotel to charge all guest up front as we have had some misfortunes in the past with guest walking away and paying their bill, I hope you can understand our policy. The Saunas and Jacuzzi are put on as from 5pm every day, but if any guest would like to use them out of those hours we are more than happy to turn them on, they take not more than 30 minutes to heat up. Regarding the bath not been totally clean I do apologize, you are more than correct, I have got on to our maintenance department to make sure it´s cleaned deeply on a daily basis. We are working on some improvements in the hotel so if you do decide to return and give us a second chance please do not hesitate un contacting me, I will be more than happy and honored to organize your booking. standard business hotel. clean, nice bathroom. bedroom average. about 15 min walk to conference center. I rented a bike and could easily get to the beaches, city center, etc. might stay again if in town for a meeting. only complaint was that desk was poorly staffed, often only one person available and would have to wait too long for help. they acted put out if you expected them to be a concierge.

we were a group of golfers and stayed here for 4 nights. the rooms were excellent and the concierge went the extra mile for us over our stay.
although the bar was not terribly inviting we did get served excellent gin and tonics.
breakfast was ok but would be tempted to eat in one of the excellent cafes in Barcelona as an alternative.

My wife and I spent one night here as part of a City Break. Its location on the seafront is it's greatest attribute. Service was mixed. It is spectacularly ordinary in that its everything you want from a hotel but it lacks the "Wow" factor.
Check-in was smooth but unfortunately our room was too warm for us. The air con must have consisted of a man wafting air with a tea towel over a solitary ice cube somewhere. It might as well have not been there. Ironically, the minibar fridge belted out more heat than the air con could cope with.
The room was OK, in a dull sort of way. No English TV channels apart from the usual news offerings. The bed was a trampoline with pillows. Shower was good.
Breakfast offered reasonable choice but staff were difficult to spot. We waited at the "Wait to be seated" sign for 5 mins before seating ourselves.
The reception/concierge service was better, with requests for luggage and taxi services dealt with promptly. The highlight of our stay at this hotel however was our ability to hire electric bikes for €10 for 4 hours. Our cycle along the seafront and the spectacular beach made for a memorable morning.
I don't think I'd visit this hotel again. There are so many that do it better.

My daughter and I recently spent 5 nights in this very friendly, relaxing, well located hotel by the beach. Waking up in the morning with views across the Mediterranean was a real treat. The rooms were clean, the front desk and concierge very helpful. The buffet breakfast was a treat catering for all tastes. Even though a way from the city centre there was plenty to do easy to catch buses and restaurants a short, pleasant walk along the promenade. There is a bigshopping centre nearby also. Would definitely stay again Thank you
