About
The Casa Amatller is the most complete work of Catalan modernism. Built by the architect Puig and Cadafalch in 1898, it is located in the called Manzana de la Discordia, next to the famous Casa Batlló by Antoni Gaudí. The façade has been admired since its beginnings, although its true treasure is in the interior, thanks to the original conservation with all its furniture and decoration. Casa Amatller offers daily visits in 4 languages and its opening hours are from 10 am to 6 pm. Also, it offers commented visits, at 11 am 12am and 17 pd. A unique opportunity to discover the true history of Barcelona at the beginning of the century!

Address
Neighbourhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

    Stained glass barrel ceiling
Casa Amatller is right next to Antoni Gaudí’s famous Casa Batlló. Architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch designed Casa Amatller in Germanic elements and Gothic style. In the lobby, you will find a beautiful stained glass barrel ceiling, if you are a fan of stained glass, you will appreciate this.

    Lovely find
We had never really heard much about casa amatller and it certainly isn’t as publicised as it’s neighbour. However it was a wonderful surprise and well worth the money. We did the house and the digital museum and both are well worth the money.

NOT TO BE OVERLOOKED BY CASA BATTLO NEXT DOOR
Don't overlook this building next door to Casa Battlo. It's sometimes overlooked by visiting tourists that only have eyes for it's more illustrious next door neighbour. However, it's very distinctive in it's own right. It has a lovely mosaic facade, beautiful balconies and special window features that make it well worth seeing especially if you're next door anyway.

    Chocolate shop - buyer beware.
The casa was great to visit, appreciated the original finish and furnishings. If you visit the chocolate shop inside, know that it's marked up because it's the cafe selling their chocolate - it's not the official shop!!! We found the original shop next to Casa Mila and prices were 20-30% cheaper. Buyer beware. Giving this a minus 1 star as this part was deceiving, we were given sample chocolate as part of tour to "sell" us on this and wasn't told about the official shop.

    Casa Amatller
Often overlooked as it is next door to Casa Batllo, but definitely worth a look. Very well preserved interiors. A guide takes you round. There is also an optional light show which we didn't do. A great addition to your visit to the two Gaudi buildings on the same street.

Great house, eh on the tour setup
Beautiful, richly ornamented house - for someone who loves the look of old house museums, I definitely preferred it to Casa Batllo next door. I just wish the setup didn't make you feel quite so rushed through it - you get an audioguide to take you through the house, but you have to be part of a guided tour in order to walk through, and the pacing of the audioguide is controlled by the tour guide. Which means unfortunately you don't get to linger and admire, or go through at your own pace. It was a great place to visit, but would have preferred to be able to go through on my own.

Several decorated rooms with guided tour
I came in the evening about 90 min before the closing time, but managed to get a guided tour with a few others. I had the "Barcelona Card Modernista" so did not need a reservation. It was an interesting layout and fun to go through. There is also a small shop to purchase their delicious chocolates! Worth a visit if you have the extra time.

    Love Gaudis unusual architecture
Casa Amatller Casa Batlló and Casa Lleó-Morera make up three interesting buildings showcasing Gaudi's works. Casa Amatler was originally constructed in 1875 for an archaeological enthusiast Antoni Amatller. He passed away in 1910 but his daughter kept this place until 1960 when she passed away. As the original family kept this building for so long the interior remained original. Its role now is that it serves as a historic house, museum, café, and anda an Institute for Hispanic Art. Scheduled tours are available.

    Casa Amatller
This was an unexpected gem that we kind of stumbled upon. It is right next to Casa Batlló, which is very busy. The lines for Casa Batlló are long, the price is a little steep. Casa Amatller is about 20€, it’s an audio-guided tour that lasts about 45 minutes. The house is beautiful, still in tact and in original state. There’s a wonderful cafe attached with great outdoor seating and an optional art exhibit that seemed very popular, we didn’t do that because we had a schedule, and it’s an additional fee.

Beautiful and peaceful space next door to Casa Batllo, great Sorolla exhibit
We went specifically to visit the Sorolla exhibit, which was wonderful. It had a section on the artist's life and work, another section where you can create your own art work and have your "portrait " done, an immersive area surrounded by Sorolla's work, and finally a virtual experience. Well worth the visit. We did not visit the house, that is a separate ticket. But we did go by the peaceful Cafe on the patio, don't need a ticket for that and it is the perfect place to relax and get away from the crowds in Paseo de Gracia. There are also some tables inside in what it used to be the kitchen, and a nice gift shop. Don't miss the beautiful staircase and stained glass in the entrance way. Again, no need to buy a ticket to see that, but the rest of the house must be beautiful as well.

A museum that could have been nice to visit, becomes unpleasant due to the conditions imposed. Although it has only five rooms and would have been very easy to supervise, the organizers decided that it should be done in small groups controlled by a timed audio guide. Thus, a visit for which 20-25 minutes would have been enough, becomes boring, artificially extending to over an hour. The museum keepers didn't understand that today's visitor gets the information he needs, he doesn't have to be forced to give him information he doesn't ask for.

Went on a small group tour that was included with my Barcelona Modernista card entry (get it, it’s great!) and was amazed at how well preserved this place is. It’s a special glimpse into the past that celebrates the building and the people that lived in it. The architecture was so unique and staff were really friendly and helpful.

This was a lovely house to visit. Great ornate details and the audio guide was well thought out. It’s skippable if you’re short on time in BCN though.

Interesting visit of an impressive modernist home. But quite impersonnally organized. And bad organization of the cafeteria.
