Neighbourhood: Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie
Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie has one of Canada's most prominent Italian communities, with Little Italy concentrated along the convivial bends of Saint-Lawrence Boulevard. Known for its fantastic bars and authentic Italian fare, the domain includes the Jean-Talon Market, the largest public market in North America. Open year-round, sunny months see fruit and vegetable stalls set up outside the main chalet, while blustery weather draws crowds indoors to meat and cheese sellers, spices and truffles stalls, and for regional delicacies such as rare Charlevoix lamb. While the market dictates what's fresh for local restaurateurs, visitors can please more than their palates, taking in the Renaissance architecture and frescos of Madonna della Difesa, the picturesque Rue Saint-Rominique with its cheerful homes and splendid gardens, or the ornamented thoroughfare of Plaza Saint-Hubert.

This is an amazing place to visit. On three levels. First you learn a bit about insects with some excellent views of some live ones. Then a level of hundreds of amazing preserved specimens showing the huge range of insects. The top floor is a large butterfly house with lots of butterfly species and some other insects as well.
We included this with the botanic gardens.
Highly recommended.

Fascinating look at the small creatures that go unnoticed every day. Butterflies occupied hours. So many pictures. Glad we went.

What they had was amazing! The beauty of their insect displays were phenomenal and the butterfly room was magical. My only critique was I wish there was more especially for the cost of admission.

One of the most incredible things I ever saw. Just go. It’s a work of art from God and from men. You’ll never see anything like it. Ever.

I was a reluctant participant in this outing, but was glad that I went. The displays of various types of insects based on colors was just amazing! The portion of the exhibit when you can feel vibrations and hear sounds that would occur in an ant colony was creepy, but got the point across. Entering the area where the butterflies flew freely was breathtaking and worth the price of admission. Watching the Mexican Leaf Cutter Ants chew and carry bits of flowers and leaves was mesmerizing. Overall, one of the most memorable experiences of our trip.

More than pleasant visit and big highlight in the butterfly area which was clearly where I felt the whole visit was worth my while.

The live butterfly garden is the best I've ever been in - and we do try to go to them wherever we see them! Not only butterflies, but also other insects, and they are *rearing* Atlas moths and other lepodoptera.
The exhibit before the garden is also a delight - we've never seen an orchid mantis in person before, plus the beautifully displayed specimens in the big round room were swoon-worthy.
This will not be our last visit!!

The main attraction is the live butterflies. They will land on you. There are also a few other insects and a huge wall of dead insects to view. Kids and adults will love it. The price may be a bit steep on its own but we had the passport so well worth it.

Ignore the negative reviews, many of which were written while the Insectarium was under construction. The large, open-flying butterfly habitat opened in 2021 and is the reason to visit. So many butterflies, as well as beetles, leaf-cutter ants, and other animals. Well worth a visit.
