Travelodge Barcelona Poblenou receives a mix of feedback, with its convenient location being a highlight for easy beach and public transport access. However, guests have called out the basic nature of rooms, and some have faced issues with cleanliness and amenities like air conditioning. While the atmosphere is often described as modern, noise can be an issue due to thin walls. Opinions on service quality vary, ranging from friendly to unresponsive. With additional fees for services like WiFi, some travelers question the value compared to budget accommodations.

I decided to stay at this Travelodge based on my good experience of their hotel in Fira, also in Barcelona. Originally I had planned to stay in the MotelOne but decided that for a saving of £30 a night, it was worth it.

The Welcome,
I arrived at the hotel around 2 hours before check in as I was tired from travelling. I was prepared to pay an early check in fee, however the wonderful receptionist didn’t charge me for it, even when I asked. She initially told me that there wasn’t any rooms ready, but without prompting or hesitation she was on the radio to housekeeping to see if they could accommodate me, to which they did. Excellent!

The Room,
On entering the room, I found myself a bit disappointed at first with how basic it was. Even though travelodge is basic, I found this one to be more so. There was lots of space in the room but no storage apart from a couple of hangers on the wall. It felt unfinished, like the designer had plonked a bed and a desk in a room and said Whalah! The window was small and had a plastic curtain, it certainly had the prison cell realness feel to it. It was however quiet, even with the busy road next to it. The bathroom was a nice size and was immaculate in cleanliness.

The Hotel in general
This hotel is neatly laid out and everything is quickly accessible. The restaurant is located next to the reception area and serves a small selection of hot food throughout the day, it also has a bar. There are vending machines that stock drinks, sandwiches, confectionery and travel essentials such as toiletries. The reception also stock some essential toiletries too, I needed a shaving razor, and although they didn’t have it in stock at the time, they also said they had things like shaving gel, shower gel and shampoo for those caught without.

The Food
I purchased breakfast for my stay but only managed to have some on one day as the other day I had to leave very early in the morning. The food was satisfactory and is a mix of continental and hot food items such as sausages, bacon and the like. It tasted good, but lacked a certain standard, but what else are you going to expect from a budget hotel? I was a little disappointed that on the occasion I stayed, they didn’t have orange juice, instead they had pineapple juice in the orange juice dispenser without anything to say as such bluergh!

I would be happy to return to Traveodge Poblenou, it was a nice cheap and cheerful hotel. Their Fira location is of a better quality as it’s a smaller more closely run hotel, although it is a distance from Barcelona centre. So the location of this travelodge makes it a good compromise.

A little bit of advice, if arriving by metro, get off at L4 Lacuna as it’s closer than Poblenou station.

Location is excellent for access to the beach, only around a 10 min walk. There are many restaurants and bars just adjacent on a promenade. Metro stop is a few mins walk also which is good.

In terms of the hotel itself you have to base your expectations on what you are paying and the hotel being a Travelodge. Personally I feel the value was good. We paid around £40 a night with breakfast so were happy with that.

The room itself is average sized, enough room for two people with bags. Agree with other review that a lack of furniture is acute. The room feels bare and a small investment in a bit more would help lift it. There is a wall rack for hanging clothes and a chair/ desk but that is literally it.

Bathroom is small but functional. Shower was a little cramped however.

The room did feel clean and well serviced so we were happy with that.

Breakfast was table service owing to Covid but had a reasonable selection of pastries, cereal, juice etc. At the weekend they served hot food but not during the week.

Our only real gripe was that the bed was super uncomfortable. It felt very old and had no real support to it. The mattress was literally resting on a iron frame so not the best even for a budget hotel.

The only other issue I encountered was a very busy reception. Not sure if it was due to the Covid but there was often minimal staff and at times was very hard to speak to someone. The lobby was also very hot and did not seem to have any a/c.

Overall if you are looking at a no frills budget option I would recommend.

We were staying at the hotel 11 days. (Vocation with family).Location is perfect! We just love it! Close to the beach area and so many cozy restaurants around. The hotel is good, not more then this. The rum is really small, beds are not so comfortable to sleep ( once again for 11 days) but cleaning is perfect whenever you need! No view from the rum at all and sometimes noisy , because of construction works outside that can wake you up at 7 am. WF -NOT FREE! That was strange! GREAT STAFF , that makes this place and atmosphere warmer! They will help you with everything! They do always extra even if you ask for a small thing! No doubt ! Special thanks to Bernary, you were so attentive and helpful! You are all guys do great job!!! Good luck with everything you do! Regards, Irina

we spent 3 nights here the man on reception was great friendly and helpful in fact all the staff we came into contact with were the same. Paid in advance and every thing you purchase is billed immediatly so no extras on leaving. The room was a little sparce but extremly clean and fresh, the bed was comfy. Breakfast was the usual Buffet with good selection of hot and cold food the only fault was the hot food was allways luke warm but good value. the location is excellent for metro, bars and restaurants will probably stay there again

I booked this hotel As I stayed in a awful one last time I visited Barcelona 2 years ago. Stayed 3 nights very close to the beach, metro station & a bus stop nearby. I booked direct so I got Wi-Fi in the room which was super fast, at no extra cost. requested a kettle at the time of booking only got one the next day only because I asked for it on arrival for my breakfast porridge, wasn’t paying €10 for breakfast. No cup or tea/coffee provided what was I supposed to do with just a kettle, tiny small bed which was comfortable good size room, staff not overly friendly kept on shouting put mask on. Coved restrictions a bit OTT. My bed was made up 3 times on my second day which is completely pointless the poor cleaners, no need for it.
Very basic room bathroom wall stuck handwash & shower gel TV with a few boring Spanish channels. Barcelona is very expensive
Also paid extra €5 at checkin.

After an over-booking issue at a nearby hotel, I walked in to the Travelodge Poblenou to see if there was availability for an entire week. Depite being so worried I would have no where to go, Christian was behind the desk andput me in a sunny, quiet room.
Close to both the beach and public transport, this hotel is in a great location and a reasonable price (especially at the last minute).
The housekeeping staff was wonderful, and throughout my stay, Christian was happy to answer any questions I had. I had a fantastic time in BCN and a great stay at the Travelodge Poblenou.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights as we love the area around it, full of bars and restaurants. We had stayed in this hotel a few years ago and whilst it is ok for a night, 4 nights is definitely too long! Although we had our room cleaned daily, we had to constantly go down to reception and ask for more toilet roll as they never replenished anything in the room. They would also turn the air con off, so after a sweltering day the room was even hotter. The air con itself (when on) isn’t that good and the room would just feel warm most of the time. All we had on the bed was a thin sheet. The room is very basic and consists of a bed, a desk and a chair. I would recommend the area around this hotel but it is far too expensive for the service they provide.

It was awful. I emailed Travelodge to ask about the pet charges. I received no reply, so I called on the day that we wanted stay with my question to find out if the charge was €20 per pet OR per room. I got told it was per room. As we were only staying one night there was no way I was going to pay €40 for 2 pets for a one night stay so I wanted to find out before I booked. I got told by the man on the phone that it was per room so I went ahead and booked the room. On arrival they tried to charge me €40 for my 2 dogs. I explained that I had spoken to someone on the phone earlier, I showed them the call log on my phone and the receptionist said to me that I was given the wrong information and it was it was per room not per pet. After a lot of confusion, a lot of hanging around I was very stressed, I was tired after travelling and I was close to tears. After I told them to cancel my booking and that I would find somewhere else the man on reception agreed that because it was not my fault i was given wrong information they would only charge for one pet on this occasion but in future he wished to inform me that the charge is €20 per pet. Well, THERE WON'T BE A NEXT TIME!! Who in their right mind would pay €40 for one night? As if that wasn't bad enough, the hotel is NOT dog friendly. The dogs are not allowed anywhere in the hotel except to go in and out of the front door (which I had to sign to say I agreed to) So they want to charge €40 for one night but the hotel is not dog friendly? Therefore, we could not go downstairs to have a coffee, have a beer, to use the hotel wifi which was only available downstairs (unless you pay extra) or anything else in the hotel and dogs cannot be left alone in the room so what is the point?! The icing on the cake was the very noisy building work outside the hotel which started early in the morning which we were not informed of. Car park was also an extra €15. I would not recommend this place at all, especially if travelling with dogs.

Dear Ms Plant, thank you for taking a few minutes to give us your feedback. However, we must remind you that the information was provided to you from the beginning, not only by our reception staff but also by our assistant manager. You were informed that the price is per pet and per stay. In case of exceeding 7 nights, you have to pay again the supplement of 20 euros. He was told that, as a courtesy, only a supplement would be applied. At Travelodge we always welcome pets as part of the family but there are regulations that must be complied with, a food and hygiene regulation and also our internal regulations. Pets cannot be left unattended in the room. Yours sincerely, Travelodge - Customer Care Team

Chose this hotel as we have stayed before and love the location . Good value for Barcelona and a good base to stay for a few days. I requested a quiet room and our room on the 9th floor was fairly quiet. The room was clean and like all Travel lodges basic in decor. No storage and not enough sockets or charging points. The bed was comfortable however and we had a good shower with plenty of hot water and clean towels daily.
Out main complaint was the temperature of the room…very hot and stuffy. Air con was ineffective and little ventilation from the window. I told reception but was told the air con was still on winter setting, the thermostat would not go below 24C and often the room was around 27C ….the weather last week was warm and sunny every day so the room never cooled down it was very uncomfortable and sleeping was difficult.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, great location but air con needs to be adjusted so rooms can be cooled. Apart from check in and out didn’t speak to many staff but those we did speak to were OK and spoke good English.

The hotel is located two blocks away from the subway station that takes you everywhere in the city within minutes. You can also find all necessary amenities (supermarket, drugstores, restaurants, etc) just around the block. The Poblenou Beach with clear blue water is just minutes away walking through the Rambla de Poblenou, and its many restaurants and pleasant environment. Very safe to walk at night. The hotel offers a good wifi service, an amazing breakfast, and the room has everything you need (plus air conditioning). The staff is very kind and helpful. The manager José Ignacio, was super friendly and we'd like to thank them for our great stay there. Would definitely stay there again when visiting Barcelona!!
