It's basic but who spends time in their hotel room in Barcelona. Close to everything and taxis just outside. It cost between 8-15 euros per trip to take cabs. The Metro doesn't have a very good reputation so we completely avoided it. The room was nice and clean and there's a maid service everyday. They are very mean with the loo roll so make sure you ask for more or you'll just get the corners carefully turned over on your last three sheets. The air con isn't very good - it's either off or on effectively so you can either boil or be cold and they only give you a sheet on the bed. We asked for blankets and were given some very comfy summer duvets. Inexplicably they give you a kettle in the room. You can't expect free tea and coffee at a low star hotel but some cups would have been nice. There's a little supermarket around the corner that has Twinings and Nescafe and a souvenir shop a bit further along where you can get mugs. The bar and restaurant is open 24/7 which is very nice. Very close to the beach and lots of lovely places to eat. The staff were a bit of a mixture - some very helpful and some really not. The main reason this place loses a point is because of the breakfast. Thankfully we didn't pay inclusive with our room. The continental selection is perfectly adequate but the cooked is not. The picture of it in the lobby shows some lovely plump sausages with tomatoes and beans etc. Don't be fooled. There were no sausages only very skinny very overcooked frankfurters. There were no tomatoes at all and the scrambled egg was swimming in green water (?) The tea is like dishwater and the toast machine doesn't work. The whole affair is overseen by a very rude man who told us on our first morning that we couldn't have breakfast if we hadn't reserved a table but we were later told by the barman that this was incorrect. We tried again the next day and obviously having sampled it didn't go back for more. Do go to the zoo and aquarium, Gaudi house, Picasso Museum, Gothic Quarter, La Rambla, Santa Maria del Mar. Be careful with Sagrada Familia - if you don't book online they only sell actual tickets for late in the day, We arrived at midday and could only get tickets for 5pm. Poblenou is very nice and I was really glad we'd stayed here rather than further into the city - the beach is far nicer.
