We’d heard so much about Cooper’s Inn and finally had the chance to stay there this week. It lived up to the rave reviews and more. Our room looked over the wonderful garden where we enjoyed an early evening social hour with our hosts and other guests and sitting quietly with morning coffee and a book. The inn is a beautifully restored and decorated property, elegant, comfortable and restful and lots of little extras along with gracious and very helpful hosts made us feel especially welcome. The extensive, thoughtfully considered breakfast menu caters to every taste and each home-cooked course was carefully prepared and beautifully presented making for a delicious and very filling start to the day. We’d love to return some time. We’ve already been recommending it to friends!

Although this Inn is hundreds of years old it has been lovingly restored and provides a warm and friendly environment. The bedrooms are fully equipped with all amenities including free wifi and supremely comfortable beds. Every room has a bathroom en suite. Your hosts David and Pat ensure that any and all requests are met cheerfully and they welcome their guests to a happy hour each evening in the garden of the Inn. One of the highlights at Coopers Inn is the complete hot breakfast, superbly cooked by David, which includes a generous selection of menu choices. With prior arrangement Dinner may be provided on some nights - if the opportunity presents seize it - you will not be disappointed - the food served at dinner is world class.

A 'world class' endorsement is high praise. Thank you so much. Our caterers at Nova Scotia Rollies continue to rise into a world that are simply remarkable. We feel very privileged to welcome amazing Guests to he Cooper's Inn and the Town of Shelburne and area. We feel that special places are those that touch our hearts in special and often exceptional ways. We're truly proud to be part of that story and to share some of that history.

We had another marvellous stay at the Cooper’s Inn. Yes, this was our second visit, interrupted only by the pandemic, and, we plan on returning several times before winter sets in this year. The Inn Keepers, David and Pat, are extremely talented at what they do and have many returning visitors as a result. Their historic home is beautifully decorated and furnished with all the modern amenities. They manage this amazing combination of the best of the past, and, best of the present, with calmness and attention to detail that will make your visit a very rewarding and memorable one. In other words, David and Pat do an amazing amount of work behind the scenes, so that you can enjoy your stay without a flicker of discomfort. Certainly the - Cooper’s Inn is a labour of love for David and Pat that they generously share with each and every visitor who come from all around the world.

To begin with the setting of the Inn right on the historic waterfront is wonderful and it only gets better as you explore the historic town of Shelburne and local museums, from Acadian to Black Heritage, to the quirky UFO museum. In this lovely area, you will find active fishing wharves, beaches, kayak training and tours, hiking and biking -this unique town has it all!
But please don’t worry as you are well prepared for a busy day, as David and Pat prepare a sumptuous breakfast with a different special for each day of the week.
David does the cooking and Pat presents the meals with beautiful , edible floral arrangements.

We chose the ‘dine in option’ for Monday night and, I must say, we were extremely impressed with the international chef from Nova Scotia Rollies Catering Company. The four course meal, was wonderfully prepared and absolutely delicious. Furthermore, the food is all local, organic and prepared with nutrition in mind. Delicious and healthy, what better combination could you find?

Relax in the beautiful garden with a glass of wine with your hosts, and then proceed on a dreamy pace through an historic area of Shelburne to one of the restaurants of the town. From gourmet food, to pub food, to local favourites…mine is the scallop wrap prepared at the Beandock.

David and Pat are very involved in supporting the community of Shelburne, as they have for sale crafts from the local area, as well as they purchase their produce from local sources so it is always fresh and delicious. Their generosity extends to supporting the local charities including The Roseway hospital. There is a surprise waiting the children, or the child in you, but I won’t give any hints.

These two wonderful people have very high expectations about what quality and hospitality mean to their community and to their patrons. Fortunately for us -all we need to do is to sit back and enjoy.

Comfortable, low key, relaxed...just a few words that begin to describe our stay at Cooper's Inn. You'll find the breakfasts substantial, delicious and cooked to order -- cod cakes, baked beans, blueberry pancakes, for example!

Owners David and Pat are welcoming and even offer a 5-6pm outdoor social hour with your choice of a nice glass of red or white wine. The garden is colourful, whimsical, and like the entire property , is across the street from the Shelburne Harbour. Cooper's Inn is in the heart of Shelburne's historic district and is thoughtfully and comfortable restored to the last detail.

Would we return? Yes, the first chance we get.

Cooper's Inn is as charming as you can imagine a place to be. Their garden is fanciful and calming, the breakfasts are inventive and delicious, and the hosts - Pat and David - are gracious, helpful and welcoming. The rooms are quaint, comfortable and spotless. Perfectly situated on historic Dock Street amidst other 18th century structures, they are right across from the harbour. Coffee shop, fine dining, craft shops and museums are all steps away. I wish I could have stayed longer!

Looking for a nice B&B in south-western Nova Scotia we decided, based on its excellent reviews, to give The Cooper’s Inn in Shelburne a go. Upon arriving we were greeted by Amanda, a relatively young (early 30s) woman who we assumed was an employee. But wrong we were when she immediately mentioned she was three weeks in as the new owner of the Inn. After a bit of history she showed us to the Gracie Room, a large Deluxe King corner room with a great view to the north of Shelburne’s harbour. The bathroom was a bit small but did include a nice tub, very much appreciated after a day of wandering through the beautiful town.

A focus of Amanda’s is having guests interact with each other. This started in the cozy breakfast room where it is hard not to chat with others. That’s when one is not enjoying a delicious breakfast, starting with local Laughing Whale coffee, and a choice of three dishes, two offered each day and a further daily offering. The first morning was pancakes covered in blueberries and the second French Toast. Very nicely plated with fruit and a flower.

The interaction continues late afternoon each day when Amanda hosts a social hour, complete with wine, beer or some other beverage, in the beautiful garden – bursting with flowers and babbling water. Through these opportunities we met a couple from Alberta and a mother / daughter from Ontario. These personal experiences are why we so much enjoy B&Bs as opposed to hotels or Air B&Bs.

We also enjoyed a lengthy chat with Amanda about our travels – it was nice she was interested in us as people, not just paying guests, along with her background and what brought her to move from Ontario, purchase a historic Inn and start a new life here in Nova Scotia. It was obvious Amanda, along with her dog Chilo, are excited about this venture.

Cooper’s Inn, built c1785 is a home with a great deal of character, something else we so much appreciate about B&Bs. Each room is unique with ours certainly decorated in a manner consistent with the building.

Shelburne itself is a beautiful town with lots of open green space along the harbour. Sure, the town is a bit sleepy, but for some of us that is perfect.

We wish Amanda lots of success. She is very personable and down-to-earth who welcomed us to her ‘home’ for a wonderful stay. We encourage anyone visiting this beautiful corner of Nova Scotia to experience The Cooper’s Inn.

Everything about the Coopers Inn was exceptional. The room is perfect. A comfortable bed, fridge, Nespresso with a variety of pods, tea and kettle, wine opener, extra towels, lovely bathroom amenities, lots of outlets - and an air conditioner as well as windows that open. Breakfast with a full stainless French Press of coffee, made to order omelet was a great start to the day. This stay was for work, and I was busy so didn't get a chance to enjoy the evening get together in the garden. I hope to get back soon!

The Cooper’s inn bed and breakfast surpassed all of our expectations. It’s located right on the Shelburne harbour waterfront, right by the visitor information centre, popular restaurants, shelburne’s museums by the sea - all easily walkable.
We stayed in the McLean room, which overlooked the infamous Cooper inn garden and also had a view of the Shelburne waterfront.
We felt so welcomed by the inn’s new owner, who was able to give some suggestions for dinner, and hosted a social hour for guests in the garden with a glass of wine on the house.
The room was clean, the beds were comfortable and the inn has so much history itself for those history buffs - the whole experience was immaculate.
Breakfast was absolutely delicious - using local and fresh ingredients, and always left us feeling full to start our day.

When we find ourselves back in the Shelburne area, without hesitation would stay here again.
