We stayed at the Laylow for one night to recover from our east coast flight into Oahu before heading to Ko Olina the next day. Our room felt clean and modern however one of the windows only had a shade that didn’t do the best job of darkening the room which made it a little annoying. The bathroom was rather small only one sink and the toilet isn’t separate which I prefer but did appreciate the larger shower so it’s a trade off. I don’t think I could stay here for a whole week with the bathroom situation it would make it challenging and more time consuming to get ready. We were stocked with plenty of toiletries and towels so we didn’t have to call the front desk after one night and I really loved that. All the staff we encountered was kind and helpful. Otherwise I was very happy with the bed and pillows. I liked the amenity basket with the flip flops and it’s a nice souvenir that is still a reminder of my trip many months later. We didn’t get to use the pool but it seemed nice. I did like the water station set up by the pool that was a nice touch. The area that I would like to see improvement is the hotel restaurant, nothing on the menu is marked gluten free nor did I find the restaurant had many options or perhaps able to accommodate for someone with a seafood and gluten allergies. I ended up eating a salad for dinner which was fresh though not exactly what I was looking to eat but we were exhausted from traveling and not in a state to venture out for food. We decided not to eat breakfast there the next morning as there were more options for my allergies elsewhere. Overall I’d definitely stay here again only a few minor downsides but I do tend to be particular. I liked the location and many places to walk around nearby the hotel convenience store, shopping and restaurants you could possibly get away without a car.

Aloha, Christina! Hearing that you had an “almost perfect stay” with us during your one-night stopover before heading westward to Ko Olina has brightened our day. And even though your stay with us was many months ago, we’re delighted that you took the time to recount so many details of our boutique-style property in the heart of Waikiki! From the larger aspects such as the mid-century modern décor of our accommodations to the smaller details like our E Komo Mai Basket that still has left you with a “reminder of your trip”, we know that future travelers of Honolulu will greatly benefit from your thorough feedback. We do regret, however, that you found the menu at Hideout did not adequately satisfy due to the lack of allergy-friendly options. Our culinary team strives to provide delicious meals for all of our guests regardless of their special dietary needs. Even if not highlighted on their menu of Modern Hapa Hawaiian creations, we always encourage our guests to inquire about the options that are available for their specific diet. We appreciate your openness and hope that we may have a future opportunity to welcome you back to The Laylow so we can strive to earn not only five stars once again, but achieve absolute perfection! We enjoyed our stay at the Laylow. We were traveling with a large group and the front desk staff were very kind and helpful giving us early check in for half of our rooms when we arrived so we could get our littlest travelers down for naps. The hotel is in a central location on several of the major bus lines which was great because we took the bus up to Diamond Head, Manoa Falls, and Pearl Harbor. It is close to several great restaurants and the Mitsuwa Marketplace, a japanese grocery store which my kids loved! We had breakfast at the Hideout one morning and got the buckwheat pancakes with macadamia nut butter. We really appreciated the individual attention we received from our server, Chris, since the restaurant was quite busy. Complimentary shave ice was available next to the pool every day from 1:00-2:00 pm so we were sure to stop by a few times. Our room was charming with a real ukulele provided. The beds were comfortable with lots of pillows. Every time we passed one of the housekeeping staff they greeted us warmly and asked if we needed anything. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and thought the Laylow was unique and fun. My mother has mentioned numerous times since we returned that she was delighted with the hotel and how it was perfect for us. Thanks for a great stay!

The Laylow is on Kuhio Ave which is one street back from Kalakaua Ave which is the main street in Waikiki. The location is great but because of the location, don’t expect great ocean views from the rooms. I had an “ocean view” room where you could see the ocean from the lanai between a few buildings. The rooms and the hotel have a modern feel and my favorite part of the hotel was the bar/ restaurant. They have a good Happy Hour and two of the bartenders, Taylor and Rei were very friendly and made me feel welcome. The pool has some big loungers which is nice but it’s very narrow and not very inviting for a swim. The price was just a little less than the Moana Surfrider which is an ocean front hotel and is a notch above but the Laylow is a good alternative.

Aloha, Mike! It was an absolute pleasure to read about your recent stay with us at The Laylow. As you noted, being located on the vibrant Kuhio Avenue, which is just around the corner from the retail destinations on Kalakaua Avenue and Waikiki Beach, may mean that those seeking true beachfront views may never find all of their expectations realized. That said, it brightened our day to read that our own authentic Hawaiian charm and mid-century modern style won you over, especially the vibrant ambiance and welcoming atmosphere at Hideout, our property’s hidden dining oasis. Both Taylor and Rei are shining stars in our staff and your special shout-outs for their genuine hospitality have us all feeling the Aloha spirit in our hearts a little more this morning. We appreciate you giving us a reason to celebrate and hope we have the honor of thanking you with another memorable visit through our doors on your next trip to Honolulu. Mahalo nui loa, Robert C. We stayed here for three nights after spending six nights at beachfront hotels that were much nicer but twice (or more) as expensive — so it’s a trade off.

I liked the price of this hotel and I liked the location as we were in the late stages of our trip and focused on driving to Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, the North Shore, etc., and not on visiting Waikiki beach. The Paia Fish Market in the same building is great. The Hideout is pretty nice too but very busy and not very accommodating.

I did not like having no coffee maker in the room. Big disappointment for me.

I did not like their parking lot. I bought the room with a parking package. This did not guarantee me parking in their tiny, congested dungeon of a garage. When it was full you had to park next door in the shopping mall garage and walk back from this public lot and they would validate your parking ticket. Add ten minutes each way to your outings.

I did not like the noisy experience on my 15th floor balcony. We could see the water between buildings and we had a great view of the parking deck next door but we also had a lot of noise from the street and from what Inassume were air conditioning units.

The room itself was okay. The staff was generally helpful and polite. The room was clean.

If you want to have a drink or a meal in the “Hideout” (which is nice) make a reservation and know that if you eat at a table you can stay at the table for drinks but you can’t move to the bar or other seating for drinks and to listen to the entertainment. Getting a bar seat without a reservation is tough. Many of the tables in the restaurant are far from the entertainment so choose wisely when being seated.

I had a wonderful stay at the Laylow which is part of the Marriott Bonvoy Program. The rooms were very well appointed and spacious. The bed sat a little low but was comfortable once you got in. I would recommend requesting a high floor so u don't hear any noise at night. The outdoor bar and lounge area was really nice with the fire pit. They had local entertainers performing in the evening which added to the laid back ambiance. The flip flops, snacks and water offered in the welcome basket was more than what some other hotels offer in return for the pricey resort fees. The location was perfect for walking to Wakiki beach and shopping and restaurants. The ABC store is right next door and it is right across the street from a very reasonably priced Japanese noodle restaurant. I would definitely recommend staying at the Laylow.

Being in Waikiki for business, we decided to say at The Laylow due to the reviews and that it was more of a boutique style hotel than many in the area. This is a pretty nice hotel with a “local” feel. We were in other coworkers’ hotels that week and while they had much, much better views from their rooms, their hotels were cold, standard in feel, and lacked personality. Our room was nice and had a small balcony with two chairs and a small table, but with no “view” to speak of. The mattresses leave a lot to be desired. While clean, it sagged in areas and gave no support. The bathroom was spacious and clean. There is a welcome basket in your room. By the elevators on each floor is a cabinet with ice and a tap that dispenses room temperature water, cold water, and carbonated water. We loved this amenity. The pool area is small but nice and serves shave ice from one o’clock to two in the afternoon. One afternoon they even served Mai Tais. There is an area with deck chairs and umbrellas and another with cozy chairs and tables, perfect for reading. The pool area can get crowded and on one afternoon, not only were the kids being obnoxious , the adults were, as well. When you see adults (and I’m talking 30-50 year olds) intentionally throwing water from inside the pool at family members sitting in the deck chairs without consideration to anyone sitting nearby or walking by, you know why the kids were so bad. The hotel did nothing to address this, despite it going on for over 30 minutes. The Hideout restaurant has live music in the evenings (make sure to make reservations) and the waitstaff was friendly. The breakfast servers at the same restaurant ran hot and cold; a few were good, several not so much. The valet parking service was efficient. The front desk personnel were excellent - very friendly, professional, and helpful. Room service varied from very good to “eh,” and I noticed different people on different days, so it varied with the employee. The nighttime traffic noise is bad but that isn’t the hotel’s fault. We found that a constant problem wherever we went in Waikiki on this trip, much of it appeared intentional, and we did not hold that against the hotel. The location is perfect: You are walking distance to the beach, some excellent restaurants, and a crazy-good shave ice kiosk (thank you, front desk receptionist, in telling us to go to this one place!). The Laylow seemed to have more fees than the large hotels the coworkers stayed at but we are still glad we booked here.

I've had the pleasure of staying at The Laylow, Autograph Collection multiple times over the past few years. This hotel provides a unique aesthetic in their hotel rooms that remind you that you are in Hawaii every time you wake up or come back from a day of work/activities. All of their amenities are notable as they take great attention to the cleanliness of their hotel and maintain exceptional customer service throughout any parts of the hotel. Additionally, it's located in the heart of Waikiki with plenty restaurants and shopping within walking distance.

However, the main highlight of my stays would have to be their employees. The front end staff remains attentive with every interaction, provides recommendations or answers to any questions, and works to accommodate any requests. You're in great hands with their front end staff Caitlyn, Joey, Sheila, and their managers Suzanne, Gabriel, and Ashely.

Moorea A wrote a review Jul 2020
I would have given this property a zero if I could. My boyfriend and I planned an inner island vacay from Maui and received a recommendation to stay at the Laylow from my cousin because being a photographer, she knows just how much I appreciate good design. We called their customer service team over the phone about a week before our travel plans to reserve a room and see if they had any kama'aina deals for Hawaii residents.

After waiting almost 20 minutes on hold to speak to a live agent, I should have known from the beginning that we should have stayed away by the lack of enthusiasm in their customer service agent's voice. After we "booked" the reservation she told us we were good to go and that the reservation was under my name and that I would be getting a confirmation email shortly to my work email.

Fast forward to travel day #1... we arrived at the Laylow only to be told by Heidi (the front desk assistant manager) that there was no reservation under my name or my boyfriends, and since we never got a confirmation number we were basically SOL because they "were booked with no available rooms". After going back and forth searching for a combination of names possible and spelling errors that may have happened, I kindly asked Heidi at the front desk if she could possibly look into our call that we had with them as they are recorded calls and most likely kept for their records. Her facial expression to my request read much differently than the excuse that she "could try" but that she was busy and if we could take a seat she could see what she could do.

After sitting in the lobby for 30 min we went to go check in on the status of checking on the call and not only did her attitude go from mild to over the top, but she also told us that she hadn't looked into it at all. She then gave us the number to the Marriott corporate reservation team to basically send us on a wild goose chase to try and find the call ourselves.

After another 20 min on the call, I went back to the counter to ask Heidi what our options were as often times when hotels oversell rooms they can book you a room somewhere else at a similar price. I kid you not when I say this, but not only did she roll her eyes in my face but she also told me "like I said earlier we are all sold out and don't have any rooms available, so if I were you I would just go somewhere else...your should try outrigger down the street" In shock, I walked away and started calling around to try and find a room for 4th of July weekend.

I never really write reviews like this but this was so far beyond over the top that I had to share my concerns. These are tough times and sure sometimes people have hard days, but no guest should be treated like this...especially not locals that are island hopping to support our failing economy right now. Not only has Laylow lost us as a customer, but they have also lost our friends and family too.

We were walking on the street looking for someplace to eat breakfast and we saw a sign that said the hideout so we followed it with my beautiful wife and we got upstairs to find the menu was underwhelming but Chris and his service and the food were excellent. We highly recommend the chocolate milk and the avocado toast. Chris created the perfect environment by prepping our table continually checking up on us and even offered to take a picture when we wanted to remember this amazing experience. He has the most positive and uplifting energy about him. We will definitely be coming back here to eat.

The Hideout for breakfast is a great way to start the day. A huge shout out to Chris who was running tables and a big help to us. He saw to it that we had what we needed and checked on a couple of times throughout - even providing some tips for the islands.

The food was filling - sizes left bowl of oatmeal with a good fruit selection on top. Buckwheat pancakes were delicious. The chai was okay at best as it seemed to be a powder mix - not bad but not great.

The location of the hotel is a couple blocks away from the main strip which is good as it is a bit quieter but you can walk the beach front if you want. Room was good and the service was solid as they brought up everything we needed and requested in a matter of minutes.
