The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

The old bull fighting area has been turned into a shopping center. There is a good food court here as well as some good restaurants with outdoor seating. Great view of part of the city from the roof. And outside the Plaza is expansive and leads to a big traffic circle and fountains.

We thoroughly enjoyed joyed our trip here! It’s the old bull ring which hosted about 20,000 people and it’s very impressive from the inside. It’s €6 per person and you pay the attendant by the entrance and you can just wonder around the whole place. You can go onto the actual ring and go into where the bulls were kept ect we would recommend going. There is a small shop to buy merchandise and a small museum that you can wander around.

We walked by this attractive building several times as we were in a hotel nearby. Very nice older structure, part of the gorgeous heritage of old architecture in this lovely city.

Undoubtedly it is architecturally impressive. Unveiled in 1914 and in Neo-Mudejar and Byzantine styling it has seating for more than 19,500 patrons.

After the Catalan Parliament outlawed the cruel sport of bullfighting in 2010, the last of this deplorable sport apparently took place here the following year. Apparently because the Parliament's prohibition was overruled by a Court in 2016.

Down the decades concerts have also been held here. Famously by the Beatles in 1965 and in 1992 Bruce Springsteen.

Visited in May 2022 and it was open. See pics for opening times and prices.
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Beautiful and interesting building with a small museum in the grounds. Atmosphere evocative of past times. You can climb right up to the top for an amazing view of the bullring.

Nice building. As far as I know it was closed when I visited Barcelona. Near to Sagrada. It was the place for bullfighting.

During my journey through Spain, it was fascinating to visit the different bullrings. The final bullring that I visited was this bullring in Barcelona. This bullring is distinct in that it incorporates art deco in its architecture as evidence by the detailed tile work. I learned that the bullring dates back to 1914. However, no bullfights have been held here since bullfighting was outlawed by Catalonia in 2011. Today, this bullring is only a museum with some limited areas within the bullring opened to the public. Since it is in the heart of Barcelona, it was well worth a visit to learn about a bygone era.

This is well worth the little money it cost to get in. We had the whole place to ourselves. So cool and so much history! You get to walk anywhere in the ring as well!

Lots of history here and it's fun to tour and learn of how this arena has been used. Located in a very busy part of town and served by the Metro.

Excellent place to visit. Feel like you are alone in an abandoned historic building. Can roam and explore freely, try any seat, investigate behind the scenes, ringside behind the barriers, or in the middle of the arena. T-shirts on sale show the Beatles performed here in 1965. Fascinating in addition to being amazing value for the admission cost. Only one warning, be careful not to get locked in when they close for siesta at 2pm (I almost did!)
