The MDHHS Division of Local Health Services serves as a liaison to Michigan’s 45 local health departments and administers more than $130 million in funding to support their activities.
The Division administers the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant (PHHS BG), which supports shared projects between local health departments to increase capacity and maximize the reach of resources, as well as projects to support the health of communities and residents of all ages. The PHHS BG also funds community-based organizations to implement a variety of public health initiatives.
In addition, the Division supports emerging health threat response activities across the Public Health Administration and in support of local health departments. It also is responsible for systematic review and assessment of jurisdictional capacity to meet program standards through the Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation Program.
