The ferry and onboard services are comfortable and clean. There is little in English but the staff are helpful and things are relatively easy to figure out. The tourist class bunks are much like a capsule hotel and better than the tatami mat rooms. If you have family recommend getting a private room. Now on to the food. Overpriced and low quality. Breakfast and lunch are ¥1000 and dinner is ¥2000. Choices are mostly low-grade Japanese. If you can survive on the salad bar with only shredded cabbage and one choice of dressing you’re okay. Bring your own food!

2024.06Visit on Saturday / Pacific Ferry "Kiso" (Aomori-Akita trip, Hokkaido)
【Time required】40 hours
【Cost】Extraordinary Western-style room. Internet discount: 77,400 yen (2 passengers + less than 5 meters). The list price is 86,000 yen 79,000 yen
【Impression】 I made an online Reservation two months ago at 9:00 on the same day. I couldn't get an early bird discount again. The Reservation number is N3, so it's the third... I wonder what's going on.
When I got to the FT parking lot at 17:00, there was an incident! At home, I forgot my backpack and left all my dinner, travel planners, medicine for getting drunk and selfie sticks. Since it was a 10-day trip, I asked my eldest son to eat the groceries. The only relief of this trip is that you don't need tickets.
We had no choice, so we went to Famima for dinner after the boarding process.
This time, there were many people waiting in line and the boarding process took over 30 minutes. Is there a smarter way to do this?
And it was almost the last car to Tomakomai, so the wait in the boarding lane was tiny.
We were almost fully booked from Nagoya and from Sendai, except for the second class. Passengers mixed with senior couples in life, the SDF and tour guests.
Kiso, for the second time, is still a little old. The observation bath has 13 washrooms and 2 showers. There are also 2 hair dryers. If you work hard on the bathtub, you can put it up to your shoulders.
The buffet at the restaurant was only lunch on the second day, but you all use it quite a bit. The impression was that many people had tickets. At the 12 o'clock start, it was crowded, but after half an hour, it became available. (You can't choose a seat.)
We disembarked in Sendai and bought food, water bottles left at home, and selfie sticks. Until the docking, I fed Kappa Ebisen to the sea greens, but they didn't come near me while I was in port.
Unfortunately, there is no lounge show on board. I don't like movies either, so I spent a lot of time reading books.
A souvenir of the ship is a ballpoint pen with a logo. I liked the ballpoint pen I kept indoors, but the specifications were slightly different.
Just before entering Tomakomai, I saw a large rainbow.
Wait 40 minutes after returning to the deck to disembark. I can't even reach my phone outside of range. It's a good time to pack your bags.
My wife and I meet up at the seaside parking lot on the first floor and start our trip to Hokkaido.

This time, we used Pacific Ferry's Tomakomai-Sendai route for a round trip. The outbound ferry departed Tomakomai Port at 19:00 and arrived at Sendai Port the next day at 10:00. The return ferry departed Sendai Port at 19:40 and arrived at Tomakomai Port at 11:00.
On both the outbound and return trips, the ferry had a leisurely dinner after boarding, then rested up, and arrived the next morning after breakfast, before relaxing on the way back, which was just the right schedule.
There were two of us and we stayed in a "Cross Twin" on the way there and a "Japanese-Western room" on the way back, which was larger and more comfortable.

Of the ferries that can be boarded from within Japan, this one has the second best facilities after Panstar Cruises.
I used the Kiso S-class berth, but there was a TV speaker in the space in front of the outlet, so I couldn't plug in my adapter and couldn't charge my smartphone.
It's a minus that the website doesn't state clearly that a table tap is required.
Another minus is that the toilets had run out of disinfectant.
Don't expect a buffet in the restaurant. There is a space to eat food you have brought in, so I recommend bringing your own.

If you board the ship from Tomakomai to Nagoya, you will have five meals, but even if you buy a bento before boarding, it will only be enough for one meal on the day and night of boarding. Unless you can spend everything else on cup noodles, you will inevitably have to use the restaurant or snack corner on the ship.
However, the staff at the snack corner, called the coffee stand, cannot use it.
When I ordered butter chicken curry from the morning menu, it somehow had shiitake mushrooms in it...I can't eat shiitake mushrooms...
There was also staff curry on the lunch and dinner menu. So I asked the staff at the snack corner if the staff curry had shiitake mushrooms in it, and they said, "Staff curry is only for lunch and dinner."
...No, that's not it, I was asking if it had shiitake mushrooms in it...When I asked again, they said,
This time, it had mushrooms in it...It seems they don't understand Japanese...I gave up on checking.
But why shiitake mushrooms in butter chicken curry? Or rather, is it normal to have shiitake mushrooms in curry?
Anyway, if you don't like shiitake mushrooms, be careful.

I took the train from Sendai Port to Tomakomai Port. It was first class.
The room was not spacious. The food was not very tasty.
There was no Wi-Fi, which was very inconvenient.
The large communal bath was average.
Next time I take the train, I think I will bring my own food.

We went on a family trip to Hokkaido, and in response to a request to take a ferry on the way back, we took the Pacific Ferry "Shirasagi" to Sendai. The sea was calm and tranquil, and it was comfortable. It was summer vacation time, so the restaurant and large bath were fully booked, so we had to use them at different times.
This kind of leisurely trip is also nice.

I had booked a trip from Sendai to Tomakomai on the Ishikari, but due to the typhoon, the Ishikari's Nagoya-Sendai route was suspended. Instead, the Kiso operated. That was a relief. There were some waves, but we arrived at Tomakomai on time. As expected. The ship wasn't completely full, but it was almost full, which was great. The quality of the cabins is second to none. I had dinner and breakfast at the cafe, which was the best I've ever had. It was delicious!
