The same platform might allow different lines passing and you must be very careful about the train is the ones you are going to take or not. We were careless and took the wrong train when we head to the airport.Written June 21, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Zfy EdSingapore, Singapore10,345 contributionsMeitetsu Nagoya Station is the main station of the Nagoya Railroad (Meitetsu) system in Nagoya. Most trains of Meitetsu's major lines operate through this station. The station is also a gateway to the Chūbu Centrair International Airport, which is connected with the station by the Rapid Express service and visitors flying in will somehow take this service to the city center. We took this train and took us about 28mins from the airport to the city center (and vice versa).
However, this station is not to be mistaken with the JR Nagoya Station (though both are used interchangeably) as this station is mainly for travellers riding the Shinkansen to other prefectures/cities. JR rail pass is applicable here but not for the trains at Meitetsu stations.
Both stations are within short walking distance, about 5 mins.
For us, we have been riding trains from both of these stations, exploring the cities on our own. The trains were comfortable and frequency was fast.
As we have been to Nagoya before, we are quite familiar with these stations and could move and navigate freely and easily around. Signages in various languages are available too and just follow the directional signs, you will be good.Written February 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With trains every 15-mins, it takes 24-mins to cover the 10-stops to the terminus in the Port area of Nagoya. With a fare of Y360 each way, it appeared to be a convenient way of getting to my destination (SCMAGLEV & Railway Park), but ..... be wary of when you choose to travel!
Arriving at Nagoya Station by JR train, mid-morning on a Sunday, I made my way to the Aonami Line Transfer Gate at the far side of Nagoya Station only to be confronted by a queue of several hundred people (honestly!) for the two (2) ticket machines and a queuing system in place like an airline check-in! I guessed from the general demographic (families with strollers) that their probable destination was LEGOLAND. Abandoning my itinerary, I headed off to the Nagoya Meitetsu and went to the Toyota Museum instead.
Unlike many attractions, the Railway Park is open on Mondays, so the following day I tried again. This time no queue at the ticket machines, but the train departing shortly was already standing room only. Being nearly 70, standing (even for 24-mins) isn't really my gig so I elected to get seated on the next train, already waiting at the adjacent platform (and due to depart 15-mins later). This train too was packed, but an entirely different demographic from the previous day; almost entirely female and teenage - more 'J-Pop' than LEGOLAND!
No such problems on my return.Written May 10, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The Meitetsu bus terminal is located right beside the Nagoya train station with platforms on the third and fourth floor. We took some time to find the correct place as the entrance is not very noticeable. There are lift and escalators so lookout for the signs to them if you are bringing your big luggages with you. Bus ride is comfortable and the scenery is superb along the way.Written March 21, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Berkeman6 contributionsInstead of Shinkansen high speedtrain, I took this from Tokyo to Nagoya. It takes five hours though it takes less than two hours by Shinkansen service but costs nearly half of Shinkansen. If you do not have Japan Railpass, this is one of your choice. Also, they have overnight service between Tokyo and Nagoya.
Their passenger cabin is small but a few car has upper class seat, business seat and premium seat. They are comportable!Written June 10, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
