- CraxiterEdmonton, Alberta94 contributionsIn my attempt to try out many Nagoya onsen/sento, this one claims to have natural water and thus be an actual onsen. It certainly is watery, with a whole indoor floor that is basically one huge tub with the shower/cleansing area an island in the middle. Unfortunately, the actual ability to relax is a bit limited since all the rushing water makes a lot of noise. The small outdoor area up the stairs has a tatami resting area but is a bit cool. There is a relaxation area downstairs with bean bag chairs and manga, and I watched an interesting TV show there. However, overall I go to the onsen to relax and this was not a great place for that. The powerful jets in one area of the deep pool were helpful for the back though. I am saying "solo" since on the male side that is what I was, but my wife reported on the female side being quite similar.
For access this place is quite good, a short walk east of the Higashi Betsuin temple, and north along the canal a bit.Written March 6, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you enjoy saunas, pay the extra few hundred yen to rent the towel and clothes to enter the extra sauna zone upstairs. Be aware, this is one of the most popular on send in the area so expect crowded bathing at nights and on weekends.Written September 23, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CraxiterEdmonton, Alberta94 contributionsThis review is actually of the Shonai Onsen Kita No Yu, which I think is owned by the same people. I cannot get Tripadvisor to find that so maybe I can help you find it.
You get there from Kurokawa subway station, then take the #11 bus from the bus island, and get off when it crosses the river going north. Then walk south and head for the river, go along (east) until you see the onsen.
Being near the river, I thought the rotenboro (outdoor part) would have a good view but it did not. I also thought the rock onsen was a bit low end, seeming to be cement with bumps on it, but -poof- I was asleep, so in fact it was very relaxing. Only to get woken up by a kid splashing. So this was a bit of a problem, kids running around and the place a bit crowded. Still worth a visit.
Despite being nearer the city center the Sanno onsen is a little hard to get to, in some ways this one further out easier by bus.Written February 13, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
