About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- MicheleN400 contributionsGreat experience! We had fun and learnt a lot about Sumo! Sumo tickets are hard to come by and the details are difficult to understand for someone new to watching the sport. It was amazing to have someone explain to us and share her passion for the sport. The view from the top of the stadium was good and useful so we did not disrupt the rest and was close to the air-conditioning. We are excited and well-equipped to watch Sumi ourselves next time!Written July 28, 2024
- Q4154FCelizabethh0 contributionsLarge family sumo adventureMy husband and I have been watching sumo online for months and we were thrilled to find out our trip was going to coincide with a tournament. We arranged our schedule to spend the afternoon in Nagoya on the way to Kyoto from Tokyo. Nagoya is Not Boring was excellent from the moment of inquiry and throughout the event. We knew getting tickets would be tough but they secured 7 tickets for us. Because of our numbers we got two guides which ended up being very helpful as we were spread down a row and behind. We were shocked how into it our kids were as they had never seen a match before. Even my very sports disinterested daughter was all about it. The guides helped us a lot with my daughter who is unsteady on her feet due to cerebral palsy. They also guided us with the traditional meal and souvenir shopping. We learned so much and it was the highlight of our trip to Japan!Written July 26, 2024
- Companion2639700 contributionsGreat sport, very limited value for the price. The Sumo Tournament itself is an amazing experience. But, you'll pay $180 for the experience, for which you will receive a $35 ticket waaaay in the back of the arena, a $4 cup of chicken soup and a Japanese retiree guide who'll tell you that the goal of sumo is to push the other guy out of the circle. And you will NOT be able to walk closer to sumo matches to take photos. Next time I will just buy much better tickets instead of the "experience".Written July 26, 2024
- rhavig20240 contributionsFantastic sumo experience! We had a most wonderful time visiting a sumo match with Elly! Their knowledge of the sport was immensely helpful towards understanding the details of what was going on. This extended beyond the 'what' and 'why's taking place, to extensive knowledge of the wrestlers and why Elly (and therefore we) is cheering for them! We'd strongly recommend this your to others. Go Wakatakakage!Written July 25, 2024
- T2553UCjuliam0 contributionsHighly recommend: Day Tour with Ghibli Park Admission Ticket Round Trip from NagoyaMy two teens and are huge Ghibli fans and were just trying to get to the park. Our guide Erica made it into a exceptional experience. We could not have had such a good time without her. It takes two trains to get there and Erica the American who speaks fluent Japanese navigated it expertly. She could explain Japanese customs and expectations. During our visit, there was an accident on the bullet train which closed down the service to Tokyo for the day. We had been planning to travel by bullet train to Tokyo that evening. Erica informed me of the situation and then helped find and book a hotel to stay in Nagoya for the extra night. She then returned to guiding us through the park as she knows where to go and what to avoid at certain times. Erica was warm, vivacious, knowledgeable, and a Ghibli fan herself. Our Ghibli Park trip is now a highlight of our visit to Japan. I highly suggest going with this company. It is worth it.Written July 22, 2024
- mexf20240 contributionsTsumago and moreHello, despite the weather forecast being bad, we did the tour allthesame, but without the hiking. Lena was a competent and very fine guide, and there were no problems changing the itineraire on the fly. It was a very good experience and we con only recommend it highlyWritten May 23, 2024
- S647FCjohns0 contributionsWorth the Expense, Just Do ItWorth it. You think you read so many web pages that you are prepared for Japan, but you aren't. We could have tried some of these things on our own of course, but we definitely would have missed out on a lot by doing so. Little things like the service button at one restaurant, the different ways to eat the eel, the way you eat Nagoya noodles, and the hidden gem of a huge subterranean market with every snack and dessert imaginable. In addition, we got tips about navigation, customs and laws to follow, and more.Written May 21, 2024
- DayTrip528682944680 contributionsA great Tour to experience more about SakeWe had a wonderful evening with our guide Sakurai-san. He explained a lot to us about sake. We had great food and very tasty sake. The time went by far too quickly. A really nice experience if you are interested in sake. I would definitely book the tour again.Written April 9, 2024
- celinelH2507NG0 contributionsGreatly recommend for anyone !No regrets booking the tour. I think we spend slightly longer time as it should be. We had a great time understanding sake, the history and culture. Elly put in great effort to explain some details. I love the local Izakaya, would love to go back there next time in Nagoya. The second place (modern), free flow sake was of course essential for us. :) Thank you for giving good memories of Nagoya. Highly recommended!Written April 8, 2024
- 73Lynne0 contributionsWorth the Experience!!Liaising with the Nagoya is Not Boring team was excellent from the start! They were very responsive and pro-active ! Elly was a fantastic guide and accommodated us with our non alcoholic drinks for some members despite it being a sake tour! We learnt quite a bit from this tour - how to pour the sake, what to say and how to drink it correctly. Elly was very informative on sake and her being to explain and read Japanese made it so much easier for us! Going to the traditional restaurants was an experience and probably something we wouldn't have done easily by ourselves! Thank you Elly & team!Written December 31, 2023
- britt_hudepohl0 contributionsGreat tour! The tour was very interesting. Our guide appje English very well and showed us the beautiful hidden sides of Nagoya. We also had a tea experience, which was an experience in itself. If you want to learn more about Nagoya and see the things you normally don’t see, I recommend you this tour!Written November 16, 2023
- deejaymorgan0 contributionsA great experience whether you are new to sake or not.My wife and I are really glad we picked this tour. Getting to visit an old izakaya that the locals go to was a different and unique experience from the usual tourist fare. Was really fun interacting with the locals and making some new friends. We also really appreciated Elizabeth's local knowledge of the city, culture and of course sake. We left knowing and appreciating Japanese sake much more.Written November 12, 2023

- 233gwynethw0 contributionsNagoya Odori NEOIt was a wonderful experience. My husband and I enjoyed the event and guidance by Elizabeth and her team. It was a night to remember. I never saw a kabuki show like this one before with a mix of so many performing styles, old and new. Watching the Geisha from Nagoya, Tokyo and Osaka show case their local dances was so special. Each city's group had their own unique sense of fashion and style. Thank you so much!Written November 2, 2023

Lena from "Nagoya is not Boring" was a fantastic tour guide - patient, knowledgeable and friendly! Being a local, she has experience with this area so the tour was particularly detailed and full of excellent local information.
We visited a small local shrine and she talked about the significance of some of the symbols and the correct way to wash your hands and give offerings.
Then we walked towards the Osu Shopping Street to stop for some green tea and sweets in a beautiful boutique tea shop. Along the way she pointed out lots of beautiful Japanese gardens and also took us to see a 200 year old Bonsai tree.
I’m not a huge fan of green tea, but this was fantastic. She provided lots of information about the tea and how to drink it and we had a nice chat about Nagoya.
Next we went to the Osu Shopping Street to try some local street food - Grilled rice on a stick that's been dipped in red miso sauce (I think it was called Menshi), mochi dango and one of the best egg sandwiches I’ve ever had (not from 711)
I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone staying in Nagoya. Excellent experience!!

Excellent way to learn about Nagoya history and foods. Lena is a great guide and very knowledgeable and speaks perfect English. We tasted bubble tea. Fried chicken (karaage? ) bean cakes? Melon pan, and more .... all yummy and traditional Nagoya Street foods. She told us lots about the temples and showed us some hidden history gems. Highly recommend this tour.

Lena was so knowledgeable about Nagoya and the area, this is more than a street food tour and i would recommend doing it at the start of your trip if possible.
You will learn interesting facts about the area , local food, and Japanese culture. Leana was generous with her time and answered all our questions.
The food we sample was all delicious, ( if you do the tour at 11am maybe don't have breakfast) . We found the portion sizes and amount of food tried to be juat right.
Highly recommend this tour.

Lena's food tour is a great walk through Nagoya's cool Osu neighbourhood. I've been living here for a few months and visited this neighbourhood often, but Lena showed us hidden places with both sweet and salty, all with local charm. You'll also learn cultural aspects and see some neighbourhood temples and shrines. It's a great tour as an introduction to the area or to find new things in familiar places.

Very nice tour with great little bits of information along the way, e.g. whether this is a temple or a shrine and why. The little treats were well chosen and all tasted great! The different things we tried were particularly nice, there was everything from sweet to spicy. A really great tour that was really fun, we would love to come back to Nagoya ^^
