About
Dry Martini is Barcelona's Cocktail bar that has become an icon throughout the Cocktail World. It opened over 30 years ago and started business as a cocktail bar, it was run by Don Pere Carbonell, who named it the Dry Martini Cocktail Bar which only served Dry Martini. Other cocktails would later follow on the drinks menu, such as Gin Fizz, Margaritas, Negronis, Whisky Sours, amongst others. When Javier de las Muelas took over his legacy, he wanted to maintain the essence of the classic Cocktail Bar, preserving its English characteristics such as the leather, wood and brass present in the entire premises. He wished to maintain the already unique image, although expanding the Cocktail menu with classic cocktails and his own genuine, exclusive and innovative creations. But always distinguishing the cocktail to which it owns its name: the Dry Martini. A clear example of reverence is the art collection on the walls, dedicated to that same cocktail. Dry Martini by Javier de las Muelas has been listed for as one of World's 50 Best Bars, honour granted to only six bars in the world, Dry Martini being the first in Europe to achieve such a position for the same amount of time.

Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

- GoPlaces7774522 contributionsBest martini in BarcelonaWe stumbled across this bar while wandering the city. After 2 disappointing martinis at other places, This was a breath of fresh air!. Atmosphere was spot on, service very good, and drinks (martinis and mojitos) excellent. We went back every day. The Speakeasy restaurant was so good and so much fun. It felt as if we were going back in time to the 1920/30s. We will definitely return.Visited September 2023Written September 30, 2023
- basakinaAmsterdam, The Netherlands162 contributionsTasty martinisWe could stay only for one drink and had martinis. The raddish they served was really unpextec and tasty. The atmosphere was a bit too gentleman's club-like for me, I personally prefer more relaxed atmospheres. The service was very professional.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 2, 2023
- 4chillisAdelaide, Australia1,206 contributionsPerfect martiniWhat a fantastic bar!!! We stumbled across this when we were looking for a drink before dinner. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. I had the most perfect dirty martini I have ever had. The signature dry martini was also excellent. If you don't like martinis you are in safe hands here too.Thank you very much for your review and rating. We appreciate that you have taken the time to comment on your visit to Dry Martini. - Brigitte6Brisbane, Australia21 contributionsExcellent foodIt took us a few minutes to figure out how to get to the restaurant, but it was a clever way to get in! The ceviche and the châteaubriand were excellent! The red wine we selected Paramos de Legaris is rated 4.1 on Vivino and did not disappoint! Just beware that this restaurant has a cover charge of 4.80 euros per person, which we thought was a bit excessive. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable; however, when a larger group arrived, they forgot about us and we had to wait about an hour for our bill.Thank you very much for your review and rating. - LizziereviewerIpswich, United Kingdom176 contributionsBeautiful cocktails made with love (but pricey!)We stumbled upon this hidden gem one evening after dinner. We were welcomed when we sat at the bar and ordered without looking at the menu. Had the tastiest Espresso Martini and a Mojito - made with such care and attention. We then had a Dry Martini which was well made, I loved the novelty of the counter on the wall and the certificate for ordering one! Cost us near on €60 for the 3 drinks. Overall a lovely experience.Thank you very much for your review and rating. We appreciate that you have taken the time to comment on your visit to Dry Martini. - Colette E5 contributionsCame for the Martini, left with a new love.We had the best time here. Our bartender served us the classics first (dirty martini for me and dry for my husband). They were excellent, and we are from the home of the Gibson martini. After chatting with the bartender, he asked to make us a drink and made us the Pipe. We were amazed at the process and even more amazed at how delicious it was. We had the best time here and would recommend strongly that people return!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 19, 2024
- Sven W1 contributionJust go there alreadyEnjoying good cocktails is one of our passions, so we had to try out the Dry Martini when we finally made it to Barcelona. And indeed, the cocktails are excellent, as is the service. The only thing that could be improved is to have more vegetarian choices for the bar food. But that doesn't keep me from thoroughly recommend going here. And increase that counter ;)Visited April 2024Written April 25, 2024
- Catherine A2 contributionsHidden gemLovely drinks. It was near empty when we arrived around 6pm so service was quick. Good choice of seats. I had strawberry mojitos which tasted just like pure fruit juice and the alcohol didn't hit until the second drink. Each round came with a free bowl of mixed fruit and nuts which was a nice surprise. Lots of choice on the qr code menu but the fruit cocktails beautiful. Staff were very professional and clean in their white suitsVisited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten July 8, 2024

We have been going to the Dry Martini for a decade and it is sad to see its decline. Like losing an old friend. Two aspects are regrettable. First, the prices have exploded. A basic cocktail now runs €15-17 and it is quite easy to get to the €21-25 range, particularly if you dare requests a favorite gin. A second reason is the staff. Not a single bartender was there 3-4 years ago and this has resulted in a loss of the conviviality and a lot of attitude. When you walk in and the bar is mostly empty and they ask you if you have a reservation, it is really a bit silly.
Historically, the Dry Martini welcomed a nice mix of locals and visitors. With their new price structure and staff turnover they have clearly given up on locals and are focusing on those visitors willing to pay London/New York prices. Not surprisingly the Dry Martini has stopped appearing in the lists that show the top bars in Barcelona.
Fortunately, there are plenty of nice bars in Barcelona.

Very slow service; 15 minutes for a server then 20 minutes before we got our drinks.
The drinks are weak
The speakeasy isn't what I was expecting.

A drinking place with a pleasant and appropriate interior. With dim lighting, it's just the place to rest your feet and mind in the evening. The selection of cocktails and the artistic way of preparing each one is also impressive and must be seen with your own eyes. I definitely recommend mixing something special and not limiting yourself to the usual selection and everyday favourites.

I do not recommend going to this place if you are a woman. Incredibly dismissive and disrespectful. Many other fine places in Barcelona to spend your money.

Beautiful bar but best suited for men as the attitude toward women was poor. After being seated, we were largely ignored despite the men sitting near us being attentively served. There are way too many incredible places to drink in Barcelona where women are happily welcomed.
