I had wanted to see this area and to look all the way down to the Venetian Towers. Unfortunately, there was no water. Best to see this with the fountain operating and the light show in place.

This was the highlight of the Parc de la Ciutadella for me. It was significantly bigger than I thought it would be, with so many intricate details to look at. The emergency measures caused by the ongoing drought meant the fountains were not operating, but it was still amazing to behold. A lovely place to take pictures.

The first stop on our Gothic Quarter tour which left from Plaza Catalunya. The rumour is that if you drink from the fountain, you will return. My first time drinking from it, but hey, my 3rd visit to Barcelona. Keen as to come back, I need to see Sagrada Familia completed.

Located within Plaza Reial, (the royal square), is the Fountain of the Three Graces created in the neoclassical style by Francesc Daniel Molina i Casamajó, the square itself is the starting point for a lot of free walking tours, which is also a must.

This fountain has been located on this site since 1680. This fountain was so popular that when excellent water was brought to Barcelona through the Bash de Moncada aqueduct at the beginning of the XIX century, residents of the city still came here, attributing miraculous qualities to the fountain. The ceramic panel that attracts attention is already a 1959 restoration. 373 tiles depict the entrance gate to the city with two towers and walls. The foreground depicts scenes from the daily life of the XVIII century. The name of the fountain and the street comes from the iron bars that were at these gates.

Located right in the centre of Plaça d'Espanya is the beautiful Font a la Plaça d'Espanya. This fountain was the work of architect Josep Maria Jujol for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. Its not looking its best at the moment as the fountain is not working due to the current Barcelona water shortages and the green circular space it sits in is being used for building work, presumably to improve the plumbing to the fountain. It is best viewed from the viewing gallery of the former Bullring as this provides a vaster with the impressive Museum of National Art behind.

Whist walking a long the La Rambla, we stumbled upon this fountain, that was truly out of place, designed by Sir Richard Wallace, they mostly reside in Paris, where they are numerous in Paris, strange to see one here.

I loved this park, exploring all the different areas and understanding the design of it, as the main influences was using a series if triangles to break up the whole area. Many open space lawns, many level changes, seating areas, water features, fountain spouts, and lots of play areas for all ages. It really is a beautiful and interesting park to visit it you are in the city!

Things are always a little fuzzy when going back to 304 AD but, going on faith and whatever records the Romans left behind, Diocletian ended the lives of a nine year old boy and his thirteen year old brother on religious grounds. Justus (the elder) and Pastor are believed to be the subject of this fountain's naming.

This is the second oldest fountain in Barcelona. In 1367 this fountain, in the Placa de Sant Just, sprung to life. The original three heads would have been the sources for the water. Today there are 2 spigots between the 3 heads. Up above is a single figure of what looks to be a young boy; suppositions are that this is a depiction of Saint Just(us). But, after 100 years, who can really say with any certainty?

In 1831, it had a minor face-lift/reconstruction. It still looks like it is original.

Still, it is a medieval treasure, so simple and free of formality and pomp. Amazing how the people of Barcelona can set up tables, chairs, and cafes around treasures like this that are 1,700+ years old. Seems like they should be under protective glass.

The Font del Geni Catala is a fountain that was erected in memory of the Marquis of Campo Sagrado for his contribution to bringing water from the Sierra de Moncada to Barcelona. I

Made of white marble and dating from 1852, the fountain is topped with a winged character holding a star representing the "Catalan genius", below this are four seated female allegories of the four provinces of Catalonia and the four marine horses represent the main rivers.

    Beautiful Fountain

Plaza de Catalunya has several fountains and numerous sculptures, as well as flocks of birds, trees, plants, flowers, other greenery and lots of people. Font dels Sis Putti is a beautiful fountain on one side of the Plaza, and it has three levels. It also has some beautiful sculptures of six chubby little young male figures, or putti. The fountain was constructed in 1926. It symbolises the birth of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. According to legend the goddess of love was born from the foam of the waves, near the coast of the island of Cyprus. In Greek aphro means foam. This is a very lovely representation and is absolutely worth visiting.

This is one of the few big fountains you will find all over barcelona. It is located in the city centre but not as large as the magical fountain

This is the remnants of a very old fountain along the Ramblas very near the Boqueria. Since we love the market we passed by here several times. It is an historic marker.

La font de la Granota is a lovely fountain, although it's situated at a very busy spot, as the main road, Avinguda Diagonal is a huge one. Nevertheless there is probably plenty of space around it for people to congregate. The 100-year old fountain depicts the lovely sculpture of a young child holding a frog . The water runs from the frog's mouth. We some some people filling their bottles too! Not sure how good the water is! A nice spot and worth a stop, if you are passing by.
