The Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center offers a vibrant and festive atmosphere that can be simultaneously enchanting and overwhelming, according to guests. While the hotel boasts a range of amenities, including diverse dining options, stunning atriums, and a water park, some travelers feel these are overpriced and have noted maintenance concerns. Opinions on the hotel's location are divided; it's great for events but not ideal for downtown excursions. The rooms often receive criticism for noise, cleanliness, and general upkeep. Service quality also varies, with reports of both friendly and unresponsive staff encounters.

This hotel completely bait and switched us. We booked our rooms over the phone and were quoted certain rates. When we checked out the room rates were almost 35% higher than what we were quoted over the phone. I've been in contact with both the hotel and Marriott about this issue and neither of them can bring up our initial booking only the final booking.

Furthermore I was told I booked the rooms on 3 separate days which is not true. I booked 2 rooms on the same day. The hotel has not been helpful in either refunding us the overage or applying a credit to a future stay.

I've stayed at Marriott hotels all over the world but will never stay a Marriott Hotel again. Be very careful about your booking. This has been a terrible experience.

We have stayed at this hotel many times for conventions. I was very disappointed this time. Due to COVID, there was no daily maid service, and so people was putting their trash out in the halls. And our room was in an area of the hotel that was near live music and it was like trying to stay in a bar and grill. We are rewards members and we didn’t get our free water each day. The lack of cleaning was very apparent and outside the hotel, the ashtrays were full of cigarette butts and trash. At times it was like staying in a $39 a night motel instead of a nice resort. The trash was piled so high in the halls. On the day of check out, we had left our bags that were packed in the room until we could check out and we returned to the room in time to find the maid had let herself in and had started cleaning the room while our things were still in there, and it wasn’t even check out time! We felt like we was being pushed out! It was so rude!! We haven’t gotten our Marriott rewards yet, either. I always enjoyed the hotel in the past, but the way we was treated this time was less than what you’d get from a cheap mote! We certainly was not treated like people who was paying almost $400 a night for rooms. Its a shame that this property has gotten so bad lately.

Good morning. Thank you so much for your stay and for your helpful and honest feedback. We appreciate your patience during this unusual time. At this time, we are offering housekeeping services by request only in an effort to reduce contact between our guests and our associates. We have adjusted our pre-arrival email to reflect this policy, we are including a notice in the key package upon arrival, and our front desk agents should have made you aware of this upon check-in. We apologize if we missed any opportunities to make you aware of this protocol, and we will continue to work to improve our communication channels. Thank you again for your time, and we hope we have an opportunity to better serve you in the future. Thanks, Tim S. Customer Care Specialist

We have a room for 2 nights this weekend. We have 12 people in our group (all of us have separate rooms) so I called to see if we could make a reservation for dinner Friday night at Cascades. I was told that every restaurant on the property is first come, first served (except for the steakhouse which is a budget breaker). They would not even make an exception for the fact that this is a surprise party and guests are coming in from all across the country. I also inquired about having a small party/dessert tray waiting in the room for check in and was told that extra amenities were not available. Add to this the fact that we didn’t know you had to purchase the Soundwaves “experience” at the time of booking and the best advice I could get was to hope that day passes aren’t sold out. We’re not starting out on the right foot for the amount of money we are being charged. Really second guessing this decision…

Hello-- The only guaranteed way to access SoundWaves is by booking the SoundWaves Experience Package. Overnight guests who did not book the SoundWaves Experience package may inquire about limited availability during their visit at the SoundWaves Desk or by clicking the SoundWaves link in the pre-arrival email, but these passes are sold only based on availability. We sincerely apologize if you were misinformed about this in any way before your arrival, and we will continue to work to improve our communication channels. Tim S. Customer Care Specialist

This place is amazing! It is very, very large but it is kept in impeccable condition. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful to walk through. Even though large and a lot of people, everyone is so spread out it does not feel crowded. Great family atmosphere.

I feel as if we paid resort fees, however, did not have a resort stay other than the beautiful grounds. This is a standard hotel in a pretty package. Nothing wrong with that but better if you realize before you arrive especially when contemplating the cost. If you decide to go do not pick a peak time and you may have a better experience. Things get very busy, people become rude, lines are extremely long for everything and many times they are out of items or have shortened offerings. With that being said we understand and appreciate most employees are doing the best they can with inadequate numbers of staff during this time. However, some were very rude and three (one management) directly lied to us in regards to Soundwaves. Being lied to is not something you should have to experience anywhere you stay.

Here is how Soundwaves works from our experience versus what staff told us.
You may enter Soundwaves at 4pm upon day of arrival
You may stay at Soundwaves until noon on your day of checkout
You may pay to stay past noon, however, when we originally asked management
when booking they told us no due to "fire code". While at Soundwaves we heard
people paying to stay and asked and they said yes but only after the second time
we heard this and asked. The first time we asked the employee flat out refused to
answer our question and just repeated your band expires at noon when we would
try to nicely ask stating we've overheard people paying to stay longer. The guest
next to us was doing so at that moment.
We didn't ask, however, assume you can pay to get in before 4pm on day of arrival
as well.
Make sure to ask the front desk at resort check-in for your Soundwaves bands to save from standing in a very long line at Soundwaves. When we asked the front desk about our bands they told us they were out of bands and gave us a number to turn in at Soundwaves. When we arrived at Soundwaves and found a very long line (40+ min) we were told by a Soundwaves employee that the front desk has plenty and they just choose not to make them. When the front desk told us they were out of bands they told us to arrive at Soundwaves at least 30 min before they open or we would be standing in a very long line to get in. If you have your bands you walk straight in.

They do a very good job marketing Soundwaves as a different waterpark experience where adults can relax as well. It is 100% your typical hotel waterpark but smaller and the adult areas are extremely overrated and dirty.

You may not take any food or drinks into Soundwaves. Be prepared to wait in a very long line during lunch peak days or leave to eat.

We visited Opryland resort during Christmas and enjoyed the beautiful lights and the indoor gardens, pool, water slides, restaurants and the musical fountains. Very good for family. Better to park your car at Oprymills parking than in the resort parking area because that will cost you.

Stayed here for two nights with family while we celebrated a birthday. Glad our room was located not too far from the lobby because my relatives were on the 2nd floor of the Delta area and those hallways were LONG!!!!! A bit confusing, everything is color coded on the map but it's still easy to get confused. The arcade didn't stay open too late on Friday/Saturday night so that was a bummer for the kids. I opted to do the valet parking ($40 nightly) and they would often get confused and backed up. The beds were GREAT!!!

First off the property is beautiful, well kept. the inside was impressive and massive, trying to visit all ends of the whole place took a bit!
My girl-friend and I stayed here for 4 nights. Our first room was disappointing, on the bottom floor, small, in a corner/no view. And was concerning safety wise, was very accessible from the balcony because it was right next to the pathway.
We called to get switched, second room was better/no view still.

Outdoor pool, was sad. There is a bar out there but don’t expect to get serviced. We ended up buying drinks at the market place throwing them in a bag with ice the second day so we could get drinks. The pool could use renovations just a little updating, and should be separated to adult and then family friendly pool. I love the family friendly and how much their is for kids but you could cater to the adults only more.
Also if you want to enjoy yourself and drink make sure your keeping an eye out on your kids, the lifeguards were sneaking eachother beers then entire time. We can get someone to work the bar out there but they can get drinks?!

Waterpark! Be prepared to spend some money, $60 a person. Disappointingly enough they had just closed the outdoor part to add to it, which personally is fine but your still going to charge the same amount? Small adult pool, was still fun but not much to do with the outdoor closed.

Not sure what we’re paying for in the resort fee…

Most restaurants were closed, this was incredibly disappointing, they have so many great options, jack Daniel’s, sushi, cantina, wine bar etc all closed! The entire time we were there. Which made meals hard, not many options very repetitive. I know right now it’s so hard to find people to work but yikes.

Overall, I’d probably stay here again, especially if I knew more was open and changes/updating has been made.

I am not even going to mention how big the place is, as you can read that in other reviews. But I will tell you how you won’t feel like a Marriott Elite member by staying at this resort.

Pros:
Once you check-in, you never have to leave the resort. You are pretty much living under a bubble, so there is no telling of the weather outside (it got as hot as 100F while we were there).
Bonvoy Elite members can enjoy the steam room and sauna - but that DOES NOT apply to your guests staying in the same room.
Aim to get a room with a balcony..we had G5065, and it had a good view of the Delta garden without being too noisy.
If you are interested in the water park, ask for the reduced rate on weekdays after 4 pm ($30 vs. $51).
The fitness facility was well equipped.

Cons:
This place is poorly managed. Not all of the Bonvoy benefits are being extended here. I was given the worst room possible in the entire resort (C2141), which is on the 2nd floor by the Spa (noisy intersection) with a view of the lovely wall.
Self-parking is $33 + tax per day. The parking lot is not covered, and it was always full.
When we asked for a room change (Elite members are qualified for an upgrade), we were told that we had to pay $75 for a better room because the front desk person didn’t feel like making an exception. She eventually gave it to me for free because I was there speaking at a conference (and a discounted rate through the conference would allow her to waive the upgrade fee)
As big as a resort it was, it could not adequately handle more than one conference. Rooms were sold out, and there were lines everywhere. A typical wait time for lunch at any of the venues was more than 30 mins.
The Magnolia section is the oldest section of the hotel. While it is convenient to the conference center, the pool there was quite depressing.
The Water Park was small, with both indoor and outdoor rides. Only go if you got the discount.

The Ugly:
How much energy and water is being consumed at this hotel? The resort was so cold that we didn’t even turn on the AC in our room. But once you stepped outside, it was blazing hot in the high 90s.

Stayed Dec 27-30, 2020.
Nice resort, but the Christmas lights are always the same every year, nothing too exciting if you've already seen them.
Due to Covid they don't have housekeeping. Which was great in one way(nobody in your room) but they charge you a & 25-30 resort fee. For what? They didn't give us towels, didn't give us the two free bottles of water, no new towels, not even internet when we were there, due to Nashville bombing.... So why the extra daily fee? Not to mention the parking fees. We stayed three nights and our "extra fees" were $198.00. For basically nothing. When paying over $300 a night, you should get parking for free.

They are making everyone wear masks even in the gardens, which we liked.

The rooms were clean and seemed sanitized when we arrived.

Check in was a little crowded at check in and None of the employees were enforcing social distancing.

We left a day early because we were bored with the area. Nothing really to do during covid.

It's a pretty resort. But, wait till covid is over before going. Save your money.
