About
Nashville's Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center has earned an international reputation for its service and amenities but is equally well known for its nine acres of lavish indoor gardens. Boasting 50,000 tropical plants, rare international blooms and romantic Southern species, the horticultural displays at Gaylord Opryland are among the most exquisite in the world. Meticulously selected and lovingly maintained by a staff of 20 full-time interior horticulturists, the landscaping is a colorful, year-round paradise tucked inside this amazing resort. Each of the gardens is housed under one of the hotel's soaring atriums, creating a series of breathtaking horticultural wonderlands. An elaborate climate-control system keeps the temperature at 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit year round. Relative humidity stays around 55 percent most of the time. There is also an air exchange system to ensure air in the atriums does not become stale. The system exchanges air four times in a 24-hour period. The Garden Conservatory features a collection of 10,000 tropical plants, representing more than 215 species. Towering palms and banana trees rise 60 feet above the atrium floor. In all, there are 37 different families of trees represented, including ficus, banana trees, palms and a sampling of miniature orange trees. In August 1982, months before opening, a staff of 10 began landscaping the Garden Conservatory, which was at that time one of the largest facilities of its kind in a single, glass-topped room in the world. Many of the taller plants were put in place before construction was completed, in advance of installing the thousands of flowers that add color and texture to the majestic space. It took staff 3 months to install the gardens of the Garden Conservatory Atrium. A precise drip-irrigation system was developed that allows many plants to be watered slowly over the course of several hours. The soil is a special mixture of pine, peat and cypress bark solelite developed specifically for the environment. For the Cascades Atrium, dozens of Florida nurseries were visited before staff selected more than 8200 tropical ornamental plants representing 449 species. Plant varieties range from an Alexandria palm tree towering more than 40 feet high to six-foot-tall ginger bushes and jasminum vines. Sunlight levels are higher in the Cascades than in the Garden Conservatory, providing a sustainable environment for different plant varieties. Beyond the Cascades is the Delta Atrium, an amazing indoor garden with a subtropical feeling. Even though it is an indoor environment, 370 trees and palms--between 20- and 40-feet tall--share space with thousands of smaller plants. To create the appearance of the outdoors, black olive trees and West Indian mahoganies were chosen for their resemblance to oaks. Unlike oaks, they do not shed their leaves. And in true Southern tradition, Spanish moss trails from their imposing branches. Design of the Delta's gardens began two years before the Delta's opening in June 1996. Most of the plants originated in Florida. It took 32 tractor trailers to transport them to their new home in the protected environment of the Delta Atrium. The Delta is a true garden of the South with 120 sabal palms, tall lady palms, camellias, banana trees and cycads. Primary hedging plants are ever-blooming gardenia and camellias pittosporum (both green and variegated). There are 1500 plants representing 30 varieties of camellias in the Delta. Two 40-foot-tall Magnolia grandiflora (Southern magnolias) accent the front of the Delta Mansion. Gorgeous views with exceptional service
Beautiful property with exceptional service. Chelsea was fantastic at check-on, getting the room requested. So many things to do here. Live music, a wide range of restaurants from casual to pricey. Lots of walking and very spread out so decide what you want to be near. Atrium views with balcony are worth it! We requested a room near the live music. There are quieter areas as well. If you are there for a conference you may want to stay closer to conference hall. Would definitely stay here again!

Like Disney, but in a controlled environment...9/1/23
The last time I visited it was for a weeklong convention with Sherwin-Williams back in 1988. Other than meetings and award presentations, we only got to see The Mandrell Sisters at The Grand Ole Opry. This time we drove over from our timeshare a half mile away, and parked in a lot that had a broken exit gate so we avoided the $35 parking fee. I was already having a good time. We went in to the convention center, worked our way around the multiple atriums, found the waterpark and the arcade and visited Pisano's Restaurant and Carvel's sundae shop for dessert. We phoned home for the third time during our mid afternoon visit. There were lots of families excitedly discovering the amenities, and riding the boat through the river paths. I was intrigued by the fact that they used water from 1700 different sources to fill the waterway for it's installation way back when. The plaques explain which ones were used in each state, so it was fun finding our waterways from back home. I had to drag Jaclyn away so we could make our show at the Ryman Auditorium.

The Conservatory there is so beautiful, so meticulously maintained, and so amazing in its diversity, l would go, just to see that. But also the hotel has cute restaurants, ice cream places, sit down spots for a drink, and walking paths with benches where you can stop and really meditate on the beauty. Then, there’s this river! With boats on it! And yes, it cost us $32 to park, but it was well worth this money.

    Fabulous
Absolutely beautiful resort. We stayed here for 4 nights and loved every minute of our stay. We were lucky enough to have good weather so we could use the outdoor pool. The only comment I would make about this is the sign that insists you shower before entering the pool but there aren't actually any showers in the pool area which is a bit odd. Food on the complex is very expensive but we couldn't resist a breakfast from Cinabon. Our server was adorable and the buns and frozen lemonade were delicious but very overpriced. Most food venues on the complex close at 10pm so after getting back from a late excursion I managed to grab a chicken ceasar wrap but at 14 dollars it was a really expensive snack. The complex itself is absolutely stunning with beautifully maintained gardens. The Halloween decorations were fantastic especially the witches flying around the ceiling. We did the boat trip which was really silly and quite expensive but if you're young at heart or have kids with you is well worth dojng as we thoroughly enjoyed it. Beware you will be charged 25 dollars a night resort fee for staying here but the rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean and the resort is in a great location as it's about a 15 minute drive from downtown Nashville and the airport and a 10 minute walk to the Grand ole Opry. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it.

You can get lost in this place fast … you have to download their map just to figure out how to find your way. It’s a beautiful place that was slightly decorated for Halloween. The last time we were there was 25 yrs ago, so we enjoyed the garden. You will see lots of people staring at their phones as they try to navigate this multi-level garden/restaurant area.

    Beautiful Hotel.
Beautiful, amazing, unique hotel. It is huge and we spent a lot of time just exploring. The indoor water park was fun. (They closed the outside water park early the day we went....disappointing but still had fun.) Make sure to go to the water show and ride the boat on the indoor river!

  • Garden of Eden
This hotel sits on the largest hotel footprint in the world (over 40 acres). Inside the perimeter of the hotel rooms (which number nearly 3000) are 9 acres of exquisite gardens covered by a glass roof over 50 feet high. In these 9 acres are fountains, ponds, waterfalls, trees, bushes and flower gardens that are an absolute garden of Eden. There is even a lagoon where you can take a guided boat ride for 15 minutes in the "Delta" section of the gardens. A must-see visit while in Nashville ... great place to have lunch or dinner while sitting in the middle of the lush gardens. mike

  • A Must at Christmas
The indoor gardens decorated for Christmas was absolutely stunning. We also took the Christmas outdoor horse-drawn carriage ride that was amazing. Our driver was friendly and the music and lights were wonderful. There were even old time carolers outside singing as we ended our ride. I would highly recommend this. The only negative thing about the Gaylord was the price of parking. We didn’t expect to pay $35-40 just to park.

    Well worth the trip
If you are out at the Ole Opry you must go here. The gardens are lush and cheerful. The waterfalls are awesome. The fountains with their light and music shows are cool to watch. The boat trip is good fun, pricey but honestly worth it. There are tons of restaurants and shops. A good time for all.

What an incredible place to explore. It free to access but would you do pay to park which was steep. The conservatory and surrounding gardens thru the whole resort are beautiful. I would highly recommend this place and do the boat ride as well!

We weren't sure what to expect, but boy, were we pleasantly surprised! This is an INDOOR must see. Flowers - trees - shrubs - waterfalls - restaurants - bars - a boat tour! So much fun and such a treat for the eyes.

I love this hotel!!! It is huge and stunning! There are beautiful trees, flowers, and waterfalls throughout the hotel. There are some great restaurants to eat at. I’ve been to the hotel many times and recommend it to people visiting the area for great picture opportunities. You do not have to stay at the hotel to visit. This time we tried out the boat ride which takes you in a huge circle inside the hotel. My three and one year old granddaughters loved it!

I found the garden conservatory to be quite beautiful. The hotel itself feels like you’re visiting a resort with all the shops, restaurants on site and bars. It’s free to the public to get in so I’m so glad I came!

Charming oasis in the middle of the hotel. I could sit there for hours just relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Best of all it’s free lots of nice restaurants around to grab a bite while you’re there.

Green plants & some blooming flowers when we visited but definitely not worth the $37 to self park. It is not the spectacular visual experience I expected. Save your money if you have to pay for parking.

The gardens are very beautiful and have a nice sound of running water falls. There are ground paths and upper level walkways. It is nice to see at night and day. There are not many places to sit in the gardens but it is a great walk.

We wanted to park and spend a couple hours exploring the arboretum and eating lunch at one of the many restaurants. There is no hourly parking. We were going to be charged $37 just to park for 2 hours. Super sad.

Great lazy river and food, esp honey flavored wings. Flowrider experience was disappointing because the long wait and the entire ride may stop for many minutesvso that lifeguards could put waiver band on those in the line. Having a separate staff may help with this. Some people also lost ring abd other valuables bc they didn't require people to remove them. The waterpark inside lacked hot tub and I feel that at least adult only pool could be hot. Would love to come back and see changes

Took so many pictures and rode the little boat thru the resort, this is a beautiful property. While we did not stay there, I wish we would have planned to eat at the restaurant in the gardens. The gardens are breathtaking and well worth a few hours spent. Its free and relaxing and well worth the short drive over. The resort looks like a lovely place to stay, but very much a tourist trap with the shops and restaurants etc. But the gardens are a must see.
