We visited the Opry Gaylord as part of the Heart of America Show Choir Competition. They’re we’re about 30 schools with a couple thousand kids and their families competing over a long weekend. We appeared to be two other conferences being hosted the same weekend.
The facilities are like a Vegas casino without the casino. Th ere are multiple large scale atriums with canals, water features, gardens and several shopping/dining areas. All were maintained spotlessly.
We upgraded to an atrium suite with big windows over looking one of the main dining and shopping areas. Although they’re was a fairly constant din of sound durning the day it wasn’t intrusive and everything was near silent at night. Housekeeping and service was very good and what you’d expect from a flagship Marriott property.
There are at least seven restaurants on property. We are at a couple including the pizza and burger stands and the Mexican restaurant. The food was good, but wasn’t spectacular. But they were all dealing with huge volumes of people.
Our only two complaints were that the restaurants didn’t seem prepared for the volume and lines to get in or get food were really long. And the hotel rolled the carpets up by 11:00 pm even on the weekend. We weren’t trying to party all night, but couldn’t get a drink after our competitions were done. Not everything needed to be open, but c’mon, it’s Nashville and supposed to be fun, not grandmas on a Tuesday night.
Our 12 year old spent a day at the water park. It was pristinely clean, sunny and both the air and water were appropriately warm without feeling like you were in a chlorine chamber. It was good for a days entertainment for him and a friend.
Overall a really good stay, but they could get the food and restaurant service a little better.
