While in town for an event at the Grand Ole Opry, we stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. We arrived at 2:30p.m. which was early for the 4:00p.m. Check-in. We were told that we would receive a text when the room was ready. (This was Thursday and today is Sunday and I still haven't received that text.) At 4:15 I went to the concierge and was told that our room was cleaned, however it needed to be inspected. I said how long would this take? She said "a couple minutes". Ok.....at 5:00p.m. I went again and asked again if our room was ready. After she called someone she finally said it was ready. (No reason for the non-existent text). I knew ahead of time that we had a $24 a day parking fee. She told me that there was also a resort fee that included our internet. I said when the reservations were made we were told that the Internet was included in what we were paying (which was over $1,100). She said no you have to pay the resort fee to get that. I than asked would our Marriott rewards would cover that and I was told yes. I advised I would call her from my room if that was ok and provide her with the number. She said that would be fine. After we got to our room I called the bell hop since that was the only number I could find. The gentleman asked what I needed and I said I need to reach the concierge desk. He said well, they work one on one and don't take calls. I said well that's odd, she just said I could call her?!? I then explained the issue to him and he said he could add the Marriott rewards number to the account and it would be taken care of. After being in the car for over 8 hours and waiting 3 hours to get in our room, we were starved and wanted to change and go to dinner. The one place we wanted to eat was packed and was seat yourself. There were no seats so we decided we needed to find another place. We went to have pizza which was good but for one pizza, an iced tea and a beer it was $36. The next day we thought we would get to go to the restaurant we initially wanted to go to the day before. It was closed. This resort boasts about all the restaurants they have but fail to let you in on the fact that they are not all open on the same days. So we settled again and went to the sports bar. We got an appetizer of cheese fries and I got 6 wings and my husband a philly cheesesteak. I had 2 drinks and my husband had 2 beers. It was $72 before tip. Needless to say, we were ready to go home. When we awoke the next morning, the bill had been slid under the door already. (Even though we couldn't get into our room on time, they wanted their money in a timely manner). The bill was over $90. It had the resort fee for 2 days and the parking fee for 2 days plus tax. I called the front desk to inquire about the resort fee that I was told by the concierge and the bell hop that I wouldn't be charged. She said the resort fee is for the Internet, the pool usage, and the phone usage. (The pool we never saw and the phone we never used). I said so we paid over $1,100 to sleep in this bed and we will pay for every little thing you want to charge us for whether we used it or not. She said yes ma'am. So save yourself the money and frustration and stay somewhere else!!
