The Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center offers a vibrant and festive atmosphere that can be simultaneously enchanting and overwhelming, according to guests. While the hotel boasts a range of amenities, including diverse dining options, stunning atriums, and a water park, some travelers feel these are overpriced and have noted maintenance concerns. Opinions on the hotel's location are divided; it's great for events but not ideal for downtown excursions. The rooms often receive criticism for noise, cleanliness, and general upkeep. Service quality also varies, with reports of both friendly and unresponsive staff encounters.

Miami, Florida
I am writing this review while still on vacation at the premises in the hopes of making other visitors aware. The grounds of the Gaylord Opryland are the phenomenal, really a beautiful building and conservatory. Check in staff were excellent and first impressions were great, however two things have become abundantly clear during our last few days here. (1) The on-site events are extremely overpriced for what the experience actually involves and are really not worth it. For Example, the carriage rides, the sign advertises them for $65 per carriage when in reality through booking online you discover it is $65 per seat, for a 10 minute trip down the driveway and back…a total rip off. And then there’s the delta river boat, $18 each for a less than 10 minute trip, again a rip off for the experience. We live in Miami and visit Orlando and the theme parks often so we are used to paying a premium, the issue here is you pay a premium and get very little in return. Another issue with the events is the timing, they are all over the place and staff are not much help in explaining when and where things are happening. In general the events and events staff appear to need an overhaul/training. Lots of hotels and businesses are struggling with staffing right now and that brings me to the second issue. (2) If you plan to eat and drink at the hotel, make sure to plan ahead and check the schedule for the restaurants, it is sporadic to say the least. Just because some place is open one day at a certain time, don’t assume it will be open the next day at the same time. I’m guessing this is due to staffing, they seem to operating at 50-75%. Just trying to get a drink at 10pm in this place is a mission. Again, the place is great but you should keep this in mind to avoid disappointment and manage expectations. We are off to Soundwaves today, hopeful this will be good. We paid the same price for all day water park tickets as we did for the 10minute carriage ride…let that sink in.

Family went there for a short vacation the week between Christmas and New Years. They had a lot of activities going on. While I understand that resorts typically charge a "resort fee" I was dismayed to learn that in addition to a resort fee of $20 per day parking cost $32 per day. So, to stay at the resort it cost $52 per day on top of the room cost. I would have been OK with that except that with all the activities (many of which are open to the public) like ice skating, tube sledding, and the Ice sculpture were fairly expensive and there was no cost break for guests. It seemed like with paying a daily resort fee and daily parking guests should've been offered some discount (perhaps 50%).

Also, we made the mistake of saying we were OK with not receiving daily housekeeping. All we wanted were fresh towels after day 2. It took 4 calls to the front desk and nearly 4 hours of waiting before we received towels. We won't decline housekeeping in the future.

I will say that the indoor waterpark was a lot of fun and a highlight of the visit. Not sure we will stay at this property in the future.

First you have to park to register and if it takes you more than an hour be prepared to pay almost $40! The room was clean and pretty much like any other room at Best Western. The refrigerator did not turn down and didn’t keep our drinks cold. Skip getting water at the gift shops scattered through the area. We paid $5.98 plus tax for a bottle of water. The walkway from the check in to any of the rooms gets very congested! People stopping to talk, check maps or take pictures every few feet. The maps they give you and the directions are a bit difficult to find the room, but good thing is there are enough unique things to use as your trigger to remember how to get to and from your areas. We were here with a conference and the conference rooms was located in the delta area and our hotel room was in magnolia. Not to far, less than 10 minutes to walk. However by the third day we were over the commute through tons of people everyday. The TV was HUGE! However they only had like 8 channels to choose from. They had showtime included in stay but most shows were released in the 80s. They had Netflix but you had to remember your sign on and hope you don’t forget to sign out! They had a small safe in the room. The bathroom area was very small and maneuvering around the door and toilet to get into the shower was fun. The shower head was mounted for short people. I am six feet and it was neck breaking to wash hair! The drain never drained fast so by the time you are done with shower you are standing in your water. We ran out of the conditioner that is in refillable bottle on the wall in the bath with body wash and shampoo. The shampoo is amazing! An extra blanket in the closet had a few holes. The pillows were plentiful and are feather filled so they flatten pretty flat. We had a view or a wall and part of a strip with some plants. They have lots of options to spend more money like boat ride, scavenger hunt, escape room and more. Overall, I would skip this hotel for a cheaper one and enjoy more of Nashville.

Arrived at 1 p.m. on a Sunday, and fortunately our room in the Garden Conservatory was ready for check in. Our granddaughter was especially happy to quickly get changed and go swimming. Our package included SoundWaves. It's huge. And crowded! And VERY loud. Music is too loud. One cannot talk without yelling. Feels like entering a sauna because it's so hot, yet the water is cold. Good luck finding a towel. Finally lucked into getting two. We used only one, and glad I kept the other one because on Day 2, there were NO towels available all day long at SoundWaves. On a positive note, it appears the several lifeguards are quite conscientious. Back to the room: it was clean and comfortable. But bedside clock time was way off. We never could figure out how to change it. We were given only 1 bar of soap for 2 sinks and the shower. Shampoo/body wash bottle installed in shower was nearly empty. Our biggest problem involved the door lock. At one point we were locked out for an hour because the battery in the electronic lock was dead. We called front desk and were told security would come. It was a very LONG wait. Long lines for restaurants. Waited 40 minutes in line for breakfast buffet despite seeing many open tables throughout. Presume it was due to lack of staffing. Food was great, though. This was a fun get away with our 7 year old granddaughter. She loved swimming and enjoyed walking around looking at the various plants and water fountains. Lovely interior grounds. So much to see! Overall quite pricey, but also a nice treat. We opted for valet parking because it wasn't much more than regular daily parking (which I felt was too high for self-parking on a paved lot).

Great place to stay generally. My children loved it and the rollaway bed was reasonably priced ($25/day). The room was clean and I was upgraded by an exceptional front desk attendant named Anthony. Food on location is overpriced and a family of 5 cannot get out of any restaurant for less than $125. Going off location is probably the best idea and there are some amazing restaurants in Nashville like the Pharmacy and Merchant’s. We hope to return!

We live outside of Nashville and we stayed here for a little staycation mainly to have access to the new waterpark Soundwaves. The cost is expensive of course even after the TN residents discount. The wait time to check in which is at 3pm is long, I’m talking about 30mins long. For a hotel this expensive they need to have more counters open so we can utilize our time in the hotel/water park. Overall the rooms and cleanliness are up to par. For every person who stayed here before, you know what you paid for but I don’t think the value of what I paid for met my expectations. Our room is close to the courtyard, well after I looked around most of the rooms are surrounding the courtyard and it can get noisy early in the morning. I could hear people and their conversations outside our balcony waiting to be seated at one of the restaurants. The dining options are limited. Mostly catered for fine dining when we’re a family who just wants to get something to eat. My main gripe is the parking. We went to the mall nextdoor and it literally is Nextdoor and is it walkable? Sure. But is there a trail to walk to the mall safe with kids in tow? So we drove and left the hotel. The parking per day is $34. I can understand if we’re not guests of the hotel or if it’s valet but we’re paying guests who paid for resort fees and waterpark admission per person. It’s a very capitalist move on Marriott’s part and for this reason alone I wouldn’t recommend staying here even for a staycation. It’s not even that kind of upscale resort to begin with. Soundwaves waterpark is amazing, clean, and the kids will have lots of fun. But it’s one of those resort that you only need to go once and unless they make updates or newer things later on, that you may want to come back. But even then, if there’s an expensive parking fee on top of the expensive accommodation plus admission to the pool, we may just go out of town where we can enjoy ourselves and get our money’s worth. I don’t think we will be back.

Mickeyma-oy-- Thank you for your thoughtful and extensive review. We have been VERY busy since things have begun reopening. It's nice to be busy, of course, but it has been challenging to meet the demands of a public desperate to get out and travel after such an unusual year. We have charged $32 for self-parking for some time--well before the pandemic. We do have a well-lit walkway from the mall parking lot to our Delta Portico entrance. What lies beyond our property, however, is not ours. We monitor our parking lots with Security patrols, cameras, lighting, etc. We are not able to do the same at the mall's parking lot--so while it is nearby and available, we strongly recommend that you park with us as part of your stay. Thanks again for your feedback, Tim S. Customer Care Specialist

We are local to Middle TN so we went exclusively for Soundwaves. For the hotel room, we got an exterior room in Cascades which was fine for one night. Nothing to write home about or to complain about. Food is generally expensive and some places are closed. We opted for room service for dinner and breakfast because pricing is pretty comparable to other options, and it arrived on time and warm…a win!

Soundwaves: We went with kids who are good swimmers and old enough to do their own thing—definitely recommend. Go get a locker first and grab a spot to leave your stuff. You will need to “hold” your table/chairs with stuff all day so a locker is necessary. Kids loves Soundwaves….as an adult, it was fine. Drinks were expensive but not insane. We went for the kids not for us!

The entire experience (one night + Soundwaves + meals) is not cheap. I cannot imagine more than on night.

For the amount of money it cost to stay here we were very disappointed. They were understaffed for the amount of people, some resturants still closed or limited hours, very noisy hotel. There were fish in the water feature that were in a unnatural habbitat and one fish tank was black, could'nt even see the fish. For being closed from Covid I'm not sure why they didn't refresh the place. Fire alarms went off 2 days we were there. Rooms were only cleaned upon request which we did so we could get clean towels/wash clothes. Left clean towels but only 1 wash cloth. They had a button on the phone to push if you needed house keeping but no one answered it, Instead had to go to front desk, wait in line to request service.

We were Guests from April 29 to May 1, 2021.

Pros...
clean facility and rooms, decor is updated, very helpful staff members everywhere with a happy smile and lots to see and do for a couple of days stay. Luscious greenery throughout but not a lot of flowers. Very Quiet rooms.. we never heard the neighbors! Free shuttle service to Grand Ole Opry, Jackson riverboat and the mall Opry Mills. Easy to rent a mobility scooter in the main lobby but be sure to reserve one in advance with Mike at Bradley Medical. ($150.00 for our stay.). A scooter was a must and highly recommended. You can get to most places in the resort but have to figure that out.

Cons..
you have to call for housekeeping service when you need it, there is no room food delivery until 6 pm and ends at 10 pm.
Very expensive on meals but good quality, but nit the quality and ambiance of a $50+ steak. Restaurants are utilitarian in design. Several restaurants are closed still and there are limited food selections for those open. Valet parking is $40 but they gave us a discount of $32 because my mother is disabled/handicapped.

Im sure COVID and not having enough employees might be the reason behind some of my cons,

Really amazing place, so much to see and do and eat, all on-campus. Soundwaves is a really excellent waterpark as well with lots of fun for the little ones, though we were disappointed that the adults only third floor was closed all week for maintenance. Many of the bars and restaurants were closed due to COVID but we had plenty of fun at the ones that were open. We had an upgraded room but were a little disappointed in the size and furnishings for a room that's well over $200/nt. Would definitely come back again in better times!
