To start off, if you are arriving into BNA airport and do not have a means of transportation to the Gaylord Opryland Resort, the hotel shuttle is $25/pp each way or $35/pp round trip. A taxi charges a flat rate of $25 (up to three people), and is recommended over the hotel shuttle, unless you have a fear of taxis. We used Nashville Cab co., and we had a friendly driver and a very clean minivan taxicab. The ride was very quick. The hotel charges to take you downtown, so if you want to save some money, CAB IT! The only "free" shuttle is to the Opry Mills shopping mall, and it is a very short walk from the property.
Make sure you also being along a good pair of walking shoes, as the Gaylord Opryland Resort is HUGE! The three sections of the property (Cascades, Magnolia, Delta) are all unique, and offer different levels of renovation and scenery. We were given a very nice king-bedded room (room D1086) which had a balcony facing the interior of the "Delta" atrium. We paid a conference attendee rate (around $172/nt.), which doesn't include the additional mandatory "resort fee" of $12/nt, which includes free local calls (up to 20min), and two small bottles of Dasani water, among other things which you'll probably never use. Even the "resort fee" was taxed! We had to call housekeeping, as they kept forgetting the bottled water we were paying for, but they did bring them quickly each time.
Our room seemed like it was recently renovated, and it was done up in very tasteful modern decor. The room also featured: a mini fridge, LCD TV, alarm clock with CD player, in-room safe, a desk/workstation, iron/board, hair dryer, one cordless and one corded phone, and other typical room & bath amenities. The balcony, which faced the little river that flows through the delta atrium, also had a small bistro table with two chairs.
As for the hotel amenities, they have everything you could want in a resort property (indoor/outdoor pool, good-sized fitness center, spa/salon (extra cost), and a good selection of restaurants. As expected, the food inside the hotel is expensive, but the selection of food will suffice if you aren't venturing off property. The Water's Edge buffet, at $20/pp for lunch is expensive but they have a great selection of food. The little boat rides offered inside the Delta atrium cost $9/pp but it is nice guided tour. BEWARE when staying during large conventions if you can help it, as there are very long waiting times to get into every restaurant.
The Opry Mills shopping mall, which is a short walk from the hotel, offers a few different dining choices (Aquarium restaurant, Macaroni Grill, Tony Roma's, Johnny Rockets, Chili's TOO, TGI Friday's, a food court, as well as some decent shopping, an IMAX theater, and a huge Dave & Buster's sports cafe with a bowling alley. If you don't have a rental car or any plans to venture downtown, it is a good alternative to being bored inside the hotel. There are also a few small museums that a short walk from the property in the opposite direction.
