This music hall is a masterpiece of catalan art nouveau or Jugendstil. Rich in details and ornaments it is a monument of better days of Spain and Catalonia. The place is quite frequented, so better book tickets in advance and in the early morning hours - before the guided tours show up.

Magnificent church, built in the 14th century. It is relatively plain on the outside and without a great deal of art on the inside, but the incredibly high vaulted ceiling and soaring columns let great deal of light in and imbue a heavenly feeling. While there is apparently a charge to enter in the daytime, we were able to enter in the early evening without payment.

Beautiful parc ,near the Arc of Triomf in Barcelona. The Parc de la Ciutadella is a green oasis in the city of Barcelona. You can take long walks ,have a picnic or take a boat on the lake.

In the Parc de la Ciutadella, there are many attractions: the zoo, the Catalan Parliament.

Nice building for a museum. Has some interesting works from his catalogue, including those from his blue period. Plan for about an hour there if you want to take it all in.

El Born is sandwiched between La Ribera to the north and Barceloneta to the south with Via Laietana as its border with the Gothic district to the west. Our hotel was on Via Laietana so we explored it most days and nights especially as, although it has a reputation for art galleries, pricey boutiques and shoe shops it is also home to several decent small traditional tapas bars and a couple of the cities burgeoning craft beer bars. It’s a maze of narrow roads and interconnecting alley ways opening up to the occasional squares, such as the one that houses the impressive Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar. For me, outside of a couple of quirky art galleries I didn’t really pick up on the expensive shops side, but certainly more the bars and restaurants. For those into craft beer DIECI8 Bar and the fairly recently opened Barna Brew Born are two craft beer bars well worth searching out. And there are several authentic tapas bars which are frequented by the locals and tourists alike.
I found it a perfectly safe area to explore both during the day and at night, but like various other areas of Barcelona where tourists congregate pickpockets and scammers work here. So just have your wits about you and your possessions tucked away and you will be fine.
The El Born district technically stretches east far enough to include the Parc de la Ciutadella which is a fantastic green space and a pleasant area to stroll when the sun is out for a contrast to the narrow streets of the rest of the El Born district.

Good sized zoo with a wide variety of animals. Not many food options though and a lot of the stands and cafeterias were closed when we went. Maybe because it wasn't quite their peak season yet? It didn't feel particularly busy and we went during the may half term holiday. We managed to get half price tickets as we booked it months in advance our visit was a bargain but even at full price, when I compare it to similarly priced zoos in the UK, I think you get value for money

Recommend going earlier in the morning to check out this arch. Nice place to generally hang out, take photos,

Nice place to also go for a run or bike

This one is only a 12 minute walk from the more famous Mercat de La Boqueria on Las Ramblas, yet it is a world away in terms of experience.
Much smaller, but a much more spacious set up internally with all the same type of food stalls you can see in the more famous one, it is considerably less busy and lower cost. It also has the associated cafes and bars around its periphery but because of the extra space to the back of the market the bars and restaurants here have outside sections on the pavement also.
The funky modern roof design gives the market character and this spacious, modern market building was constructed on the former site of the Convent of Santa Caterina, from which it takes its name and there is an exhibit showing some historic ruins of the convent and information boards providing the background and history of the site at the main southern entrance to the market.

First night in Barcelona and we booked in for this show, Sangria making class and tapas dinner. All were excellent! Pol taught us the fine art of Sangria and he was very knowledgeable and great fun. Show was amazing, tapas dinner and Sangria were both delicious. All in all, a wonderful first night in Barcelona!

We actually went to this museum by accident. We had been trying to find MOCO. We didn’t regret it for a minute. There is currently an exhibition on by Mark Tennant which is excellent. I believe it ends May 12th.
The other exhibits were just amazing. I’m no art specialist but it was hard to tell what were photographs and what was painted or drawn. Incredible work.
Very close to the Picasso museum. €13 entry.

A neat little museum that is very clean and organized. There are a few dozen amazing chocolate sculptures, good history of chocolate, and a delightful cafe and gift shop. I’d give 5 stars if all the displays had English (including the artworks) and if the museum had WiFi so that even those without good cell signal (or local data plan) could enjoy the audio guide.

This was the highlight of the Parc de la Ciutadella for me. It was significantly bigger than I thought it would be, with so many intricate details to look at. The emergency measures caused by the ongoing drought meant the fountains were not operating, but it was still amazing to behold. A lovely place to take pictures.

Outside this was a large wrought iron building that caught our eyes as we headed to lunch nearby. We decided to go inside to pace ourselves after a big meal.

To enter was free but one can pay for a guided tour to down into the excavation area and learn more details about the history of both the old market building and the ruins underneath. There also was a fee to see some of the recovered artifacts on display in a room at one corner.

I liked that there was a lot of signage and flyers all around that detailed, in multiple languages, the history and background.

Worth a stop if in the area. There was a lot of room to add more exhibits or things to see if they want to attract more visitors.

Soaking in hot water is a favorite method of relaxation for me, and AIRE Ancient Baths in Barcelona did not disappoint. The space was clean, relaxing, and there was plenty of room so that you didn’t feel crowded by others that were enjoying the baths at the same time. I booked a scrub followed by a massage, and to be honest I still feel a bit boneless from it all.

I don’t speak Spanish, and all of the staff were extremely helpful in communicating with me in English.

Tempted to go back before I leave Barcelona in a couple of days…

Very nice, quiet and chilly place to stay for an afternoon/evening while enjoying a beer; professional staffing. We will come back!
