While some guests commend the modern rooms with impressive views, others have encountered maintenance and cleanliness concerns. We have stayed here multiple times starting when The Reach was previously renovated over 10 years ago. It was nice then but even nicer now. We had a King Studio Key West View room and it was clean, well appointed, and spacious. The beach was cleaned daily with very little seaweed on it afterwards. The grounds are beautiful. Unfortunately, the service is not very good.

We went to the restaurant for breakfast and there were only 4-5 items on the menu. While the food was tasty it took forever, how can breakfast take 45 minutes to make with four items on the menu (it was not crowded)? Our waiter was very nice and kept bringing coffee but it was too long. Also, drink service was awful. This is the only place I have stayed where getting a drink is difficult, usually they try to serve you drinks until its annoying. There was no drink service at the beach like previous stays and the one drink I did have at the pool took almost 30 minutes to get. It's like this hotel is perpetually understaffed. I know times are challenging due to COVID but they set the bar high for service with their pricing and do not deliver.

What irritated me the most was the valet parking. I think valet parking right now with COVID is a terrible idea. I do not want someone in my vehicle. What's worse then that is when I get my truck back at checkout it was a mess. It looked like someone parked it under a drain or dumped coffee or chewing tobacco spit all over the hood. It was nasty and the truck is brand new, not even 1,000 miles on it. Of course, back to being understaffed, there was no one to complain to, as the valet already ran to get another car and after waiting 30 minutes to get the dirty truck back I just left. This is what I mean by there lack of service, the valet should have said something. It was much worse than the picture, it was all over the windshield, grill, and front bumper.

That's the problem with this place, $80 a day for valet parking and resort fee when they don't deliver. They have the best location on the island with a nice beach and pool but the lack of service is always an issue. If it were anyplace else besides Key West there reviews would be lower. I don't know if I'll be back again after staying here multiple times over the past 10 years.

Dear CB0341, Thank you very much for reviewing your recent experience at The Reach Key West. You have been a loyal customer over the years and your feedback is extremely valuable. While we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our spacious King Studio and beach surroundings, it is incredibly disappointing to hear of the shortcomings you encountered. We understand your frustrations and hear your concerns. We stayed here because it was newly remodeled and is the sister to the Casa Marina where we usually stay but it is needing renovation.
To say The Reach was disappointment is and understatement. Upon entering the room (freshly painted and redone pretty well) we found a soiled towel in the bathroom. After a call, housekeeping came to remove it and the front desk did follow up.
The renovation is still happening and it is the noisiest property we have ever been to. Beeping back up alarms, workers talking very loud, and pounding on metal is everywhere starting at 8am (even on weekends).
Also, as stated in their website there is no in room dining. I called and you can’t even get a pot of coffee and a couple danishes sent up for breakfast. I was told they are still waiting on a few moving parts for the in room dining, but “they could have it set up at the restaurant.” Sounds like the only moving part needed is someone to bring it up to the room. We don’t use the coffe makers in the room after a bad experience with a bug in one once. (Not at this hotel)
At this price point lack of in room dining is a big miss and inconvenience for me. Especially in Key West where you may experience a “late night” and breakfast delivered is in store.
Gift shop, bell staff were both excellent and friendly and a couple of the desk staff (Joe) as well.
For the money Hilton spent on this it really misses the mark. Training the staff better and having the amenities of at least a 3 star hotel shouldn’t be too much to ask. If the Casa isn’t renovated by next time we will probably just do a VRBO.

Nicholas C wrote a review Apr 2021
The hotel is average, slightly above. Other people commented about how it was dirty, I disagree with that portion to an extent. Our room upon arrival was immaculate. Beautiful room (we upgraded to the king suite). Our “view” of Key West was mostly a tree, a view into someone else’s room and a level of the parking garage. There is a roughly $50 a night fee the hotel charges so just be aware of that prior. They also hold $100 a night on your card so prepare for that as well. Obviously they release it at the end once they check that you didn’t destroy the hotel lol.

Upon arrival the front desk had asked how often, if at all, we wished to have the room cleaned (due to COVID-19). We elected every other day. After 3 days, I had to call the front desk to request towels and had to take out my own trash since house keeping never came. Finally after 5 days I had to bribe one of the house keeping staff to please clean my room. After a nice $20 persuasion, boom my room was finally cleaned. On top of it, every time your room is supposed to be cleaned, you are charged $6 for the two waters they leave in the room. We were charged every two days, despite it only being cleaned once when I tipped the house keeper.

The staff within the restaurants, the front desk and the waiter staff serving the beach/pool were nice as can be. I couldn’t commend them enough. So nice and always accommodating. Literally didn’t have a bad experience with any of the staff (exception house keeping). People at the front desk were always nice and willing to help when needed.

The food and drinks at the hotel are pretty dang good considering it’s a hotel. Granted, they are expensive and overpriced but every hotel is. We enjoyed every meal (especially breakfast!) and didn’t have a drink we were satisfied with. You can bring your own beer to the pool and beach. There are signs saying they will disconnect your WiFi if you bring your own but us as well as various other couples had drinks and no one bothered us.

Overall, I would say this is a 4/5 resort. People may complain it isn’t super fancy, but no where in Key West is. It’s an older town with an older feel and the hotel fits right in. The rooms are modern but the exterior may seem “weathered”. The beach/ocean is 30 feet from the resort, salt water takes a toll on the building.

We booked a last minute weekend trip to Key West for the Fourth of July weekend getaway and some fishing. Due to COVID all bars (<50% revenue from food), public beaches and parks were closed so we weren't sure what would be open. We found this hotel through AmEx travel and it did not disappoint. we had some concerns of a crowded Key West due to the holiday weekend and wanted a place we could retreat to and be as secluded as possible. The Reach provided us with that place. We reserved a King studio and were up graded on arrival to a King Suite. We had view through the palms over looking the pool to the Ocean which really was a very pleasant view. We were given the option for room cleaning service and opted to waive this as we only stayed two nights. We only requested a new set of towels and removed trash once during the stay. The hotel staff were all pleasant and eager to make the stay as pleasant as possible. We took carry out from the restaurant the first night and ordered a few drinks to enjoy on the balcony and this was very pleasant. The concierge made an excellent dinner recommendation for the second night and the food there was spot on. He also assisted us with bike rentals and really was very good to work with. We walked on to the private beach the afternoon of the 4th and were taken to four chairs shaded with umbrellas right on the waters edge and the water was warm and inviting with plenty of space between groups and not crowded at all. We ordered some food and had some drinks, waded in the ocean and relaxed in the quiet of the day. We commented that we would never be able to duplicate this experience on this budget in Key West again. Truly one of the best trips to Key West as we have ever experienced. We know it will be more crowded in the future but would definitely return to this hotel!

We had been eagerly anticipating a KW vacation post Covid quarantine. I booked the Reach through AmEx using points. Upon arrival we found we didn’t have a reservation, even though I had fully paid AmEx. That was an hour and half nightmare of phone calls with AmEx travel. Through it all, Gethro at the front desk was kind and helpful. When AmEx finally worked through the problem, Gethro booked us room 410, with a partial ocean view. Big thanks to Gethro, an excellent front desk guy with patience and kindness. The next morning the good service continued. I am extremely sun sensitive due to a medical issue. When we explored the pool/beach we found a lovely covered pier. We inquired at the desk if we could put beach chairs in the pier where I could be safe from the sun. The entire front desk crew were kindly supportive with the security guy telling us to let the towel/pool guy know that he approved it. The pool guy set us up and checked on our comfort frequently. We requested and received softer pillows for our bed. And, even though Covid has tied their hands to providing full service, today housekeeping gave us a clean-up. Thank you to everyone on staff. You are real vacation-makers. In the interest of honesty, I want to mention- the 4th floor has incomplete work projects laying around with exposed wires, pipes, lumber and open overhead things. The trash bin at the elevator could use a scrub and the elevator itself needs a face lift. Parking is $35/night (but you can find some free on the street) and there is a hefty resort fee added to your bill. On the excellent side: The staff is the best I’ve ever witnessed. The pool is beautiful and welcoming. The outside areas are lovely. The Blue Marlin is a really nice place, but as others have mentioned, the sea gulls are aggressive. The beach is small (and currently has a lot of smelly seaweed but they move it daily).

We stayed at The Reach during the first week of August. The only time we had to be indoor was when we checked in; if not we were able to get to our beachfront fresh looking suite by taking stairs. You can also get to the pool and to the beach without taking an elevator or passing through an indoor hallway, eliminating contact with other people in an indoor setting. The beach water is clear, warm and seaweed get removed on a daily basis. The grounds are beautiful and I would stay in a garden view room too. All the staff were nice and approachable, especially the gentlemen in charge of cleaning and service in the pool and beach. Key West was not crowded so we were able to find ample street parking. I recommend staying at The Reach and in this side of Key West that is very quiet. You can catch sunrises if you wake up early!!

We're repeat Reach guests and when we are lucky enough to return to KW, we'll likely stay at The Reach. Experienced travelers know there's no one place that makes every guest thrilled. SO here's why we like the Reach:
1. The rooms were all redone, and they have been done well. Bed was comfy, housekeeping did a nice job, and the place has thick walls so sounds are minimized.
2. THE BEACH. If you are a beach person, its the best hotel beach and maybe the best beach on ihe Island. This trip, on SUnday, was most users we'd ever seen, maybe 50 people. No problem, plenty roomy, everyone minding own business, no nonsense. The sand is finer than sugar, I think, nice gradual gentle sandy entry for wading/swimming. They do a good job to minimize seaweed, its quite clean.
3. " The Quiet side of KW". We like that. $10 Uber ride gets you to MAllory, or its a 15 minute walk if you tarry not. ( It's a great wa;l, BTW, Duval for activities, or Whitehead or Simonton for walkers and others who want a walk without many other walkers.
4. Louie's BAckyard 150' out the back gate
5. Priveleges at CAsa MArina, sister resort, 5 minute walk to their back gate, or Reach will bring you free in their golf cart.
6. Staff is friendly, competent, helpful, and professional.
7. You can walk 300 ft to a liquor store and Ana's market and restaurant for a great Cubano. They also have mixers, water, snacks, convenience items.
8. Southernmost Resort next door if you want a change of venue for a cocktail, lunch, or breakfast.
9. La Grignote a 5 minute walk for GREAT breakfast or lunch.
10. 3.5 miles to airport. less than 10 minute ride.

Is it perfect? Close enough for us.

Just finished a trip to The Reach Key West. The hotel itself was very nice — nice looking, nice rooms (but small standard rooms), nice set up with the pool, beach, restaurant, Barefoot Billy’s rentals, access to sister property. All of that was good. What brings this hotel down is the following: 1. Had to request to be added to the list for cleaning services and even when you do, they don’t clean your room until you ask them four more times! I was told that my room would be cleaned at least three times and when I called housekeeping they said there was no service that day and could not provide me any further information. It took 3 days to get cleaning service. I had to take my towels and garbage out myself. 2. The beach wait staff are rude. The staff we had seemed bothered every time we asked for a drink and could care less about whether or not you were actually satisfied. Additionally, wait staff was rude to kids asking for a couple of glasses of water (in the 102 degree weather) … in addition to the drinks their parents were ordering. Overall, the staff was not friendly and definitely not customer focused. 3. The hotel drinks were very expensive and they DO NOT allow you to bring anything from the outside to the pool or beach — no sodas, no beer, no seltzer that was not bought on premise. They watch you like a hawk to ensure that nothing from the outside comes in. They claim it is a liability issue, but they are more than happy to sell you as many $14 - $25 drinks as you want, as long as you are buying from them.

Such a shame the simplest things can really bring a hotel down - plain old customer focus and service.

We stayed again in July and upon arrival everything was wonderful. Our check in experience was great and we had a fantastic, newly renovated room. The service at 4 Marlins was delightful as well as the food. It's the only natural beach on the isalnd so they clean the beach up every morning. The pool staff and everyone we encountered were friendly and helpful. I would also add this felt like a very safe place to be in current environment. Doors were sealed upon arrival and nothing could be sent to your room or cleaned unless you requested it. I just cannot say enough good things about these folks and this place. Will be back soon!

Stayed in a king suit with partial view of ocean. In my opinion we had a full view of ocean but I think the description was partial view.
Clean, friendly staff and quiet. Pool area was in excellent shape compared to the run down look of the Waldorf pool.
The only reasons why I did not give the resort five stars is because for 1. there was no bathroom door attached to the actual bathroom doorway. What they did was put a door on the living room with a lock and then there was a door on the bedroom(no lock). I'm a prude so I banished my husband to the room I could lock so he does not see me on the toilet. Sorry but no one needs to see that! A pocket door would have been nice to the actual bathroom entrance. 2. there was only one restaurant choice. I felt the Waldorf had a better selection of picky foods such as chips and salsa and small salads you could order. The Reach had more of a limited menu for by the pool fare in my opinion. If I were to ever go back to the resort I would stay in a different room to ensure there is a bathroom door attached to the bathroom. Everything else was great.
