The shopping is wonderful. We can walk up and down, and there are benches scattered around to take a break. - Steve_of_N21London, UK3,054 contributionsThis broad walkway was originally designed by Architect Josep Fontseré as a showcase for a collection of bronze statues of Catalan heroes and was originally known as the Parc de la Ciutadella's parlour. That was until Franco made a point of melting them all down (except one) to make the giant statue of the Virgin over the dome of the Basilica of La Mercè. After Franco's death, Barcelona avenged the memory of the desecration by renaming the Passeig after Lluís Companys, the President of the Generalitat executed by Franco in 1940.

The guides were super friendly and the group that we went with was also very nice, sometimes you feel alone in a city like Barcelona and in Barcelife you feel part of a family and a group is always created. Many thanks for everything.
