No clear views at the top
I was only in Barcelona for a day and a half and did a bus tour. One of the stops was Montjuïc and the view that I saw for a few seconds was amazing and I had to go back to see it properly. I saw the Montjuïc Cable Car and thought it was a no brainer so bought a ticket online and got on the L3 Metro, got off at Paral-El and took the funicular to the Cable car station. There was a queue at 5:30pm and buying a ticket online before didn’t allow me to queue jump, although it was cheaper. As an amateur photographer, I was really excited for this and the views on the cable car itself were amazing, I was looking forward to having some views at the top to stare at, take photos and simply enjoy. When we got to the top, the views were blocked by trees; ok I thought, there must be a better view point somewhere. I walked around the Castle and got a great view of the port, not very exciting. I then walked down the path, along a bit, down a bit but there was no view point. There were just a few gaps in trees. I considered going into the castle but it was further expense and I got the cable car back down disappointed. If you like castles, ports and the excitement of cable cars, feel free to do this. If you want the view, take the bus tour and get off at the Montjuïc stop, you won’t regret it.

Wonderful view of the city - it’s a must!!
The cable car costs 15 euros roundtrip. The route offers an amazing view of Barcelona and the ocean. When you get to the top you can visit the castle and walk around the grounds. Since it’s on a hill the view is spectacular. You can visit the museum inside the castle for free after 15.00 (3 pm).

    Great views but overpriced
This tourist attraction is a little bit of a let down. In my opinion it is overpriced and not something you should rush to do when visiting Barcelona. Yes the views are spectacular and the experience of riding a cable car is fun but 60€ for a family of four is too much. If you really want to ride the cable car I suggest you pay for a one way ticket ride up the mountain, enjoy the views on the way up and from the castle then walk back down the hill. Once you get to the top if you want to see around the castle you will have to pay more money! Annoyingly there are no bathroom facilities anywhere. The bathroom facilities in the castle are only for paying customers. There are much better attractions in Barcelona to spend your money on.

Spectacular Views, Wish It Was Longer
I think that every visitor should experience the cable car ride at least once. The views of the city are unbelievable. You really get an understanding of the size of the city, along with a wonderful water view. My only complaint is that the ride is pretty short. It’s a crowded line to be in the car for 5 minutes or so.

    Amazing views
Fun way to get to the top and there are beautiful views. You can take this cable car to the top of the mountain where the Montjuic Castle (Castell de Montjuic) resides. After you can either take the cable car back down or walk down. The areas where you walk are not beautiful so I would recommend you take the cable car back down. We purchased our tickets on line ahead of time as we heard the lines can be bad. However they seemed to keep the lines moving.

Fun cable car and great views
Fun cable car. Good views from the top. However do not get confused with the other cable car nearby which goes across the city, harbour and to the beach. We did both but we weren’t aware there were two. The walk up to the cable car involved many steps and it wasn’t pleasant, lots of rubbish and smells of urine.

Not what we were expecting 🥺
I don't know if we were just confused and didn't go to the right area but we ended up on a train going down back into Barcelona rather than a cable car up. I suspect we went to the wrong part of the station by mistake 😂 It was interesting to go in what was essentially a downhill tube train but the tunnel did not provide the views we were expecting. Pause to look at the signs in the station before following all the other people!

    A great introduction to Barcelona
This is a fantastic early stop when you arrive in Barcelona. It gives you fantastic views of the city and Montjuic is a significant historical site. Montjuic literally means Jewish Mountain and a medieval Jewish cemetery is located here. The castle defended the city for centuries and was ultimately used by Franco to commit terrible atrocities during his fascist regime. Times are better now and the views from the cable car are pretty amazing. It didn't seem to be too crowded for the time of day and time of year. If you aren't fluent in Spanish or Catalan, the ticketing wasn't a seamless process because there is a subway stop there as well and it can be a little confusing. I speak some Spanish and we managed alight. Just be prepared to spend an extra few minutes to figure things out. Well worth it.

    Great views from high above
You can see the cable cars as you take in the vista of Barceloneta. Find the beginning of the teleferico near the beach. Once away was 12 euros, roundtrip, 20. The operators keep the car to only a few people (6-8), so you are able to see out a window of your own and take pictures of the city, mountains, and Mediterranean. Once at the top of Montjuic, there is a post hotel, gardens, cemetery build into the hillside, and so much more to explore. There is another cable car and a funicular that can take you further or back down to street level. The return trip, if you bought one-way, is 8 euro, so you are not gouged for a rise back. KEEP YOUR TICKET!

    Only Bother if Mobility-Impaired
We hiked up and all around the fortress at the top. Good views from the trail at the base of the fortress. Nice picnic area among shady pines nearby. We wished we had saved our money and walked back down. The walk is neither long nor difficult for able-bodied people and next time I would save my money.
Thank you very much for commenting on your experience at the Telefèric de Montjuïc. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your trip to the castle. We recommend that all visitors consult our website for information on the main points of interest that can be enjoyed on Montjuïc hill. From each of the 3 stations you can visit the main cultural interests of Montjuïc hill such as the Fundació Miró, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, the Poble Espanyol or the Museu Etnològic. You can also visit the Mossèn Costa i Llobera Gardens, one of the most important in Europe. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to be able to provide you with a better service in the near future. Best regards. Mireia Customer Service

There are no bathrooms so for me, that was a tough challenge to face! The views are nice riding up and down but there is not a lot to do once you are at the top. The ride was only about 10 minutes one way. We parked in a lot near the gardens and when we returned to the car, a window had been broken and some of our stuff was stolen. Don't leave any valuables in the car!!! We spent the rest of the afternoon at the police station.

I took the cable car
To the top of the mountain and the views are amazing. The experience was nice otherwise I got disappointed to find out that we must pay to visit the castle. I think they should include the price of the visit as well. Anyways, it was worthy.

We had a fabulous excursion with Katie who took the 15 people group walking in the old Barcelona . We visited the well known and huge food market which is absolutely a must to see and spend some time to taste and buy .

We then went up the funicular and cable car to Montjouic and visited the castle grounds with amazing views of the city and full of information on Barcelona history .
Katie is wonderful. She loves that excursion and it shows . She is very passionate and fun . We highly recommend.

Saw this advertised in the metro and thought I would check it out. Highly recommend it. The views on the way up were spectacular and the castle on top was beautiful too. I went as soon as it opened and there weren’t too many people.

Must do in Barcelona. Great views of the city, harbor and most importantly Segrada Familia. If you are not in a hurry you can get off the top and walk down

Don't go up the cable car if you need to go to the restroom!
Buying the tickets they tell you that there's a restroom up into the castle. But you can't use it! You have to pay as well the castle ticket to use it. That was insane a public service with no restrooms. BE CAREFUL! Just stop to the public pools before going up will allow you to enjoy your tour. Otherwise you waste your money like me because the manager didn't let me return back to the cable car to enjoy what l had payed for…just because of their fault.

This is the cable car that you catch from Avinguda Miramar (stop for the open top tourist busses) and takes you up to Montjuic castle. The ride is in 4 person cars that have large panoramic windows and come every 30 seconds.
There’s invariably a queue but it moves fast and I think we waited for 5 minutes before getting to the ticket booth. You can book online and get 10% off a return ticket but it won’t get you on any quicker as the automatic gates are turned off at the bottom and you have to queue up with everyone else to show your ticket anyway.
The pricing is a complete rip off at 10.5 Euros for a single fare or 16 euros for a return ticket and there are no concessions, but at least you are afforded excellent views on the way up and the walk all round the castle then provides further excellent views over Barcelona and the new Marina developments as well as Barcelona’s container port (where they dock the cruise ships) and it’s only from up here that you get a true perspective for how massive a container port Barcelona is.
We didn’t bother going in the castle as our primary objective was the views and to walk the peak. In this respect I would recommend that when you get to the far West Point of the castle walk down to the Mirador del Migdia and here you will find La Caseta del Migdia, one of the few bar /cafes on the peak.

Highly recommend, it was magical. The restaurant at the top is also well worth a visit. Such a great alternative viewpoint after sightseeing at ground level.

You wait in line downstairs to pay (€12.50 pp one way) then wait for the elevator then wait upstairs for a cable car - there are only two - so it took us over an hour from buying the ticket to getting on the cable car! All I’m saying is allow enough time!
You can get cold drinks from a machine upstairs but no toilets!
The view is great - the actual ride is over in 5-6 minutes and at the end there are steps to climb to get out - and steps to come down on to stand in line if you buy a return ticket. There are no taxis up there so you either walk down (we did, lovely walk and easy as it’s all down hill) or buy return ticket.
I’m glad we did not but would not do it again - apart from the view there’s not much up there!
