Hamilton takes his record 200th podium after ‘hair-raising’ duel in Hungary with Verstappen
4 minute read Yesterday at 2:03 PM CDTBUDAPEST (AP) — Lewis Hamilton added to his Formula One milestones by becoming the only driver to stand on a winners’ podium for the 200th time after his third-place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.
The seven-time world champion extended his record podium haul following a classic Hamilton drive that featured a scintillating duel with rival Max Verstappen.
The jousting between the two best drivers of their generation ended with Verstappen’s Red Bull momentarily going airborne after they made contact late in the race. Verstappen had been battling for several laps to get into third position.
“The close battle we had at the end was a bit hair-raising but that’s motor racing,” the 39-year-old Hamilton said.

3 minute read Updated: Yesterday at 10:46 PM CDTTORONTO (AP) — Colton Herta won the chaotic Honda Indy Toronto on Sunday for his first victory in more than two years, starting from the pole and maintaining control throughout at Exhibition Place.
The 24-year-old American completed the first weekend sweep in IndyCar history, posting the fastest times in both practices, qualifying and the warmup Sunday before winning the race for his eighth career victory.
“It’s awesome. It’s amazing,” Herta said. “For whatever reason it just hasn’t gone our way. We’ve had speed, we’ve had plenty of podiums, we’ve had a lot of poles, a lot of top fives, but no wins. And so it feels great to finally get one back.”
The race was the first street event for the hybrid powertrains introduced two weeks ago on the road course at Mid-Ohio, with Herta putting a lot of extra stress to the engine by spinning around his car in triumphant doughnuts.

It's unclear how long Rossi will be out, but after the race Sunday, the series will take a three-week break. IndyCar's next race is scheduled for Aug. 17 near St. Louis.

2 minute read Friday, Jul. 19, 2024TORONTO (AP) — Christian Lundgaard is back at Exhibition Place a year after racing to his first IndyCar victory on the street course.
“It brings back a lot of good memories,” Lundgaard said Friday. “But it also brings pressure. Of course, we want to perform at the same level as we did last year.”
The race Sunday will be the first street event for the hybrid powertrains introduced two weeks ago at Mid-Ohio.
“I think with the hybrid this year, a lot of us are going to spend time trying to figure out how to utilize it, but at the same time it’s about having the car in the right window,” said Lundgaard, the 22-year-old Dane who drives for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

5 minute read Friday, Jul. 19, 2024TORONTO - Denmark’s Christian Lundgaard didn’t get the chance to celebrate his first career NTT IndyCar Series victory last year in Toronto.
The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver was pulled in the middle of his post-race press conference, needing to catch a flight home. And so, in November, he made a point of returning by intentionally booking a flight home through the Ontario capital.
The 22-year-old wanted to see the street track in its natural form, free of the race weekend buildout. He said it was "a little odd" — mostly, he just saw cars lined up in traffic.
Now, he’s back in Toronto, where he's set to defend his title.
